okay i haven’t finished the chapter so my thoughts my change later but here’s what my theory is after having just gotten past the scene where Asgore talks about his notes

old Dark World to me was definitely in the bunker. that’s why it’s locked down and only a few people know about it

also definitely has smth to do with Dess. Asgore mentions a tragedy and that’s the only one we know of right now

i’m still a Dess Knight truther so maybe whatever happened with that Dark World resulted in Dess becoming the Knight somehow and Asgore knew but nobody believed him and it caused his life to fall apart
