Saw Stephen Fry live last week, and he told us this story: Just after the first Harry Potter book had been released, he was offered the role of narrating it for audiobooks. He hadn’t read it, and was simply told it was a children’s book, so figured it would be an easy afternoons work. When he met JK Rowling, she mentioned that she was writing a sequel. Stephen replied very condescendingly “good for you”.

A few years down the line, the books are selling well, and he is doing the recording for the Prisoner of Azkaban, when he runs into the phrase “Harry pocketed it”. Stephen could not say this line. It always came out as “Harry pocketeded it”, unless he said it ridiculously slowly. They tried time and time again to get it right, but to no avail. Eventually, he called up JK and asked if he could say “Harry put it in his pocket” instead. She thought for a moment, then said “no”, and hung up.

The phrase “Harry pocketed it” appeared in the next four books.

ACTUALLY READ THE BOOKS I’VE PURCHASED

college tips 

- do  not  take  8 am classes

- dont take 3 hr classes that only meet once a week

- sleep 

- when u write an essay pick out the quotes/examples u want and write the essay around it

- email ur teachers and meet with ur advisors regularly

- quizlet

- TRIPLE CHECK YOUR ALARMS 

- bring tupperware to the dining hall to smuggle out extra food

- dont wear your lanyard around your neck

- try to group your classes together in back-to-back time blocks. you wont want to go back to class once you get home

- STAY ON TOP OF YOUR HOMEWORK EVEN IF THERE ARE OPEN DUE DATES

- when walking on the sidewalk keep all the way to the right especially if your pace is slow

- yes, sometimes we can hear the music through your earbuds. we really don’t care or mind

- try not to eat a whole bunch after 10PM, especially fatty foods like pizza or lots of pop. you’ll get stomach aches in the morning

- nerd clubs are 100% okay and there are tons of students who share your interests with you, you just have to look

- take out the fucking trash

Maybe you feel so strongly about consent because you were dating a legal adult and he was technically raping you

A) thats really fucking rude to say and its also none of you business, B) actually he was not my relationship with him was completely legal the age of consent in Canada is sixteen and he wasn't an authority figure making there nothing wrong with our relationship, and C) though it's none of your fucking business we were not having sex or anything close to that we wanted to wait and had complete open discussions about our feelings and expectations and therefore he was not raping me

If you ever have a real adult relationship you will realize that human adults in relationships understand that consent with each other is implied unless otherwise stated. Asking before every kiss/sex is totally sociopathic.

I'm assuming this is from my post from over a year and a half ago? When I was sixteen (not an adult but dating an adult nineteen year old) and in my first relationship? When I'm now eighteen and been in a relationship for two years?

I have cleared this up before from people like you taking my post and attacking me with it and I will say it again: no, he doesn't ask me any more, and no, I don't expect him to, because we've been together for two years. No, people should not have to ask before EVERY kiss, and he didn't always ask in the beginning. However, he was nineteen dating a sixteen year old, so he wanted to be sure. and sometimes, rarely, he'll still ask me, but only in situations where he's gone in for a kiss and I've turned my head. In those situations you have to ask because the other person isn't showing consent.

THE POINT was that there needs to be clear permission, especially in the early months, before anything, even a kiss, happens. Permission should always be asked before sex, eventually (like during marriage) non-verbal, but slight eyecontact and non-verbal cues to be sure the other person wants it. But in the first experiences of sex between a couple (no matter how long they've been dating) should also be asked for, to be sure the other person is sure it's what they want and are comfortable with.

Can someone please tell me what the weather is usually like in March in England and France? I’m going to London and Paris and a few places in between from March 10th-20th this year and I’m trying to figure out what to pack/wear.

Also the exchange rate is terrible but are things "cheaper" there like is something that's $20 here gonna be like 10 pounds/euros there or something? like is the 'value' of things different? because like the Canadian dollar sucks right now I'm really hoping not to lose as much money as I'm expecting to.
