Evelyn Tucci.
Something about how Steel was the only kid who couldn't stomach Slumber. A little girl who would grow up to be the architect of the Citadel's imperialist and domineering designs... and right from the start she was someone who didn't even drink the kool aid. She and Soft and Stone were brilliant, and they were rebels. Something was wrong, and they were determined to uncover what was behind the curtain. What drove them apart were their responses to discovering the truth: Soft and Stone recoiled, but Steel was taken in.
So of course when Suvi came to Steel in arc 4, her staff shattered along with her illusions about the Citadel, so much like her parents before her, Steel didn't say stop asking questions follow orders, she said, ah, you've figured it out-- so clever! Here's a title, an office; a share of our power. Come with me to see the thirteenth court and I will tell you our secrets. Come home.
If you're smart enough, and you start to see through things and ask hard questions, the hand of power will reach out not to smite you but to offer you a deal... if I stroke you enough to appease you, will you work for me? If I give you a bite of the roast will you help me carve it? It becomes stronger by absorbing the force of intelligence and will that would oppose it--after all, that's easier than striking it down by force. Evil's mightiest soldiers are not its zealots but the rebels who were made to believe they had won.
still frothing at the mouth about her, your honor

Everything that Brennan said in this most recent fireside about how he built Steel is so important to me, actually, because it's so true about what Real Life Bad People look like.
Like. I recently lost my pappaw. My mother's father. And by the end of his life, I didn't even want to speak to him. But that's not how things started! As I got older and I started to see him for who he was, as I began to understand the abuse my mom and her siblings endured, as I removed myself and my kids from his presence to escape his manipulations and racism and hatred...
I also knew that I couldn't erase the fact that he was the pappaw that kept M&Ms in his pocket just to sneak them to the grandkids. That he was the one who rescued me from the loose dog that tried to maul me. That he was the one who hosted my tenth birthday at his pool and helped us flee from a rogue wasp. That he was the one who encouraged my love of learning and helped keep me from losing all belief in myself with his consistent praise.
There are a hundred stories like mine. Like Steel's and Suvi's. Stories of people who were kind and good and family until you saw what was in their heart. And it's so important to me to show that people who are evil can also act like good people. Can fool others into thinking they're good. Can believe that they themselves are good!
And it's so important to me to see Suvi's story, one of utter betrayal, one in which she loses a family member not to death but to something worse. A loss that means not just the loss of that important person in your life but the contamination of an entire lifetime of what were once good memories.
But sometimes, your heart sings a song so loud
i was VERY surprised by Lou name-dropping Bad Dragon in adventuring party (and Ally not having heard of that at all). but then i remembered this is probably Aabria and Erika's doing. the horner corner strikes again
Dimension 20 has fully altered my brain because I saw the trailer for Knives Out:Wake Up Dead Man and my first thought was - “They got Renner”
what impresses me most about the creation of “Samalamadingdong” is the operational security. It wasn’t just coordinated embezzlement (though it objectively was that). There were so many different lies told to so many different people, coworkers and friends and family. There were secret slack channels and calendars dual-used alongside Sam-occupied ones. There were blurred Zoom meetings with people smashing plates just offscreen/out of hearing, a long-term secret warehouse rental, a Variety reporter—who presumably had to carefully tell their boss—Sam’s wife, and dozens of cast, crew, and other creatives involved—and yet nobody outside the carefully chosen people knew. Least of all Sam.
I’m accustomed to the “practically speaking, that could never actually be kept secret” anti-conspiracy argument, and I stand by it. There is no way NASA/the US govt in 1969 could’ve faked the moon landing and we wouldn’t know. But the cast and crew of Game Changer on Dropout.tv? Maybe! They! Could!!
relistening to ep 8 of the children's adventure after finishing book 1 is a terrible idea nobody do it what do you MEAN don't send help send a fucking coroner i'm already dead
What if I loved you?
What if we're both ripped from our homes and found each other in the wreckage?
What if we were made into soldiers together?
What if I stayed by your side through school and through war and through conspiracy and through you finding something soft to match your stone?
What if I was steel, only kept sharp by the touch of you along my edge?
What if I loved you?
What if I loved the home that made us into this?
What if you needed to be saved from yourself?
What if your fingers had grazed my face so many times before? What would hurt more?
What if I saved you?
What if I saved your daughter too?
What if I looked at plump cheeks and eyes too sharp behind crooked glasses and she too reached out to graze fingers where yours once lived?
What if you let me down, but I saw all the best of you in her?
What if I saved her?
Would you forgive me?
What if I made her everything you couldn't be, everything you should have been, everything you promised me we'd be?
What is a world that would do this to us?
When the sky bleeds red and my edge has gone dull, will you save me as I have you?
of course the world's heart gives the best hugs
WBN is so funny from Steel's perspective. You sucessfully use your adoptive daughter to unknowingly put a curse on one of the most powerful witched in the world and her apprentice. She goes AWOL walking back to the teleporter and you finally get to speak to her after 2 weeks and in that time she has located a legendary spirit sword and is about to break the curse. She's level 1. I'd be so pissed
