i’ve never played persona so i’m not in the fandom but i notice a lot of gay nsfw artists (yes, other gay guys) drawing smut of this one 16yo from p5 (ryuji, i think his name is? The “lewd” one) and im just like, this is why im homophobic. Too many yaoi tropes have bled into how gays interact with each other and I feel like no one wants to criticize it

idek if that’s yaoi that’s just like. internalized homophobia. in general. which may have been internalized because of reading yaoi, but happens a lot with people who don’t read yaoi as well. there are so many toxic norms in mlm communities both irl and online, including the sexualization of minors, it’s a real problem.

This is the most ridiculous shit I’ve seen in a long while “gay men who draw gay stuff have internalized homophobia because they might’ve read cartoons about gay men fucking”. We’ve gone from “mlm need to be protected from teenage girls writing fanfic” to “we need to protect mlm from mlm they have internalized homophobia and are fetishizing themselves”.

Also, whether this was a Poe to begin with or not, I’m actually pissed off here. Because both the anon and thewoesofyaoi seem to be blaming homophobia ON GAY PEOPLE rather than on bigots.

Are there things I dislike about other gay people? SURE. Even if I don’t find mlm fiction a huge issue because it *is* fiction (my main beefs are chemsex, meth abuse in general, toxic masculinity, transphobia, racism, hookup culture over developing lasting relationships based on something beyond physical attraction alone - some real and actually devastating issues) That said, I am not going to let ANY of those make me hate us in general. Because homophobia is ALWAYS the fault of the bigot.

You want to know why? Even if all gay people were fucking saints who had no substance abuse issues, who were not white people, who had unpacked all of culture’s baggage re masculinity and machismo, who only had sex in private monogamous relationships - BIGOTS WOULD STILL BE BIGOTS. They would STILL hate us.

And if you’re homophobic? Even because of “bad shit gay people do?” THAT is your issue to deal with, not the issue of someone else for existing.
