This spiny, black bone spear is a favorite among nocturnal hunting tribes. While attuned to the spear, you can always see the faint outline of it, even in total darkness. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

This spear contains a fragment of the moonless hunter, an ancient spirit that can be channeled to assume some of its powers. While you’re not channeling the spirit, you can use a bonus action while holding this spear to call forth the magic within it and assume the spirit of the moonless hunter. While you’re assuming this spirit, your eyes become pure white, and you gain the following benefits: • You ignore the effects of exhaustion. • You can’t sleep or be put to sleep by magical means, and you can’t take or benefit from finishing a long rest. • You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and on Wisdom (Perception) and Wisdom (Survival) checks made to detect and track creatures. • You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, out to a range of 120 feet. • Your attacks with the "blackthorn spear of the moonless hunter" deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage to any creature it hits. • Your movement speed increases by 5 feet.

You can assume the spirit in this way for up to 8 hours or until you release it as a bonus action. The effect ends early if you are more than 120 feet away from the "blackthorn spear of the moonless hunter" for more than 1 minute. When the effect ends and you are no longer assuming the spirit of the moonless hunter, you gain 2 levels of exhaustion as the spirit returns to the spear. Exhaustion gained in this way can only be reduced by finishing a long rest. ___

⚔️ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺! Rose of the Queen Valkyrie Weapon (spear), legendary (requires attunement) ___

A sharp and coiled rose blossom rests at the top of this gilded spear. A pair of silver, winglike leaves stretch outward from either side of it. You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, which has the finesse property. When a creature is slain with this weapon, a red rose grows from the corpse after 7 days.

𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙠𝙚. Whenever you hit a target with the spear, it takes an extra 1d6 piercing damage from the attack. Once on each of your turns when you deal this extra damage, you can cause up to two other creatures that you can see within 5 feet of the target to also take 1d6 piercing damage, as a spray of thorns fly outward from the spear.

𝙁𝙡𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙨. You can use an action to spin the spear above you, sending a cascade of magical thorns out from you in a 20-foot radius. Each other creature within that area must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or take 4d6 piercing damage. Any creature within 5 feet of you has disadvantage on the saving throw and takes an additional 1d8 slashing damage from the effect on a failed save.

𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜. When you make a ranged attack with this spear, it returns to your open hand immediately after the attack. ___

In addition, when you attune to the spear for the first time, and then again daily at dawn, choose one of the following options. You then gain the listed benefits until the next dawn. 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚. Your speed increases by 5 feet, and your jump distance increases by 5 feet. While holding this weapon, you gain a +2 bonus to AC against opportunity attacks made against you. 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight of what you can push, drag, or lift. Furthermore, when you move 20 or more feet towards a target in a straight line and then attack it with this weapon, you have advantage on the attack roll. 𝙇𝙞𝙤𝙣. ⚔️ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺! Fulgurite Spear Weapon (spear), rare ___ This crude spear is made entirely of glass made from a bolt of lightning striking the earth. A part of the lightning still remains within the glass; the spear emits dim light out to a range of 10 feet while it’s held. A target hit with the spear takes an extra 1d6 lightning damage from the attack. 𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜. If the sky is visible and unobstructed above the spear, you can use an action to point the spear at a point that you can see within 30 feet of you and speak its command word. When you do, a bolt of lightning then strikes down from the sky to hit the point. Each creature within 20 feet of the point, other than you, must then make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Furthermore, glass spikes erupt from the ground in that area and remain until the end of your next turn. For the duration, a creature takes 1d4 slashing damage for every 5 feet it walks within the area unless it chooses to spend 2 feet for every 1 foot it moves to avoid the spikes. Once a bolt of lightning has been called down in this way, this property of the spear can’t be used again until the next dawn. ___ ✨ Patrons get huge perks! Also, on the "Pearl is better off with Bismuth" thing... it annoys me a bit because people are comparing a relationship that actually happened to one that they are imagining as basically perfect

We know kinda little about Bismuth, but it's not like she has extensive relationship experience and we know she is not the pinnacle of emotional stability just based on how she handled Rose not seeing eye to eye with her. I'm sure she'd have her own flaws if she and Pearl were to get together.

It's also totally unfair to compare a relationship Pearl would have after 6000 years of growth (much of it was with Rose) with her and Rose having to figue things out from scratch.

PearlxBismuth is one of my favorite ships but I always hate when people frame it as Pearl dumping Rose or deciding to bury her altogether.

Bismuth, like Rose, brings out the best in Pearl. They both love when Pearl is more outspoken and independent.

RIGHT! And what I like about it too is.... it can be framed as the exact opposite: Because Bismuth can be a good ship for Pearl precisely because she also fought in the war and also was utterly changed by Rose so she understands better than many what Rose means to Pearl and what the mission of the CGs means to Pearl! Bis would not dismiss or diminish that I think? And Pearl definitely needs to be with someone who would understand that.

Ok hear me out.

Rose and Pearl are less like an enslaved and a slave and more like an abused teenage princess and her assigned lady in waiting (who was born into slavery).

Rose didn't go and say "hey I'm going to enslave this gem", she was GIVEN Pearl. Both of them were *born into their roles* and both of them suffered for it. Both only found solace from their grim reality in each other, and ran away so they wouldn't have to live like this anymore. Rose willingly gave up her power over Pearl and they even had this exchange:

Rose: "I'm going to stay and fight for this planet. You don't have to do this with me."

Pearl: "But I want to!"

Rose: "I know you do. Please, please understand if we lose, we'll be killed, and if we win, we can never go home."

Pearl: "But why would I ever want to go home, if you're here?"

Rose was Pearl's home. Rose gave her a choice wether she wanted to stay with her or not, and she WAS worried that Pearl was so conditioned to care about her it wasn't a real choice but how can any one claim to respect someone's choices then go "no actually you made the wrong choice so it didn't count"?

The show went very far to make it clear that despite their starting points making this relationship very, very muddy, their love was genuine.

It was Pearl's idea for Pink to take the shaper of a Rose Quartz amd go explore her colony. It was Pearl who said

" But I've been... imagining things, even when you haven't asked me to. I imagined that I ran away and met you here on Earth, a Rose Quartz. And I'm not yours, but, I make you so happy anyway! Isn't that ridiculous?! Tell me to stop!"

Proving that she wanted to be free but she also wanted Rose, as an EQUAL, not as a superior, and it was Rose who begged her with stars in her eyes to not stop imagining.

Then we have Rhodonite and meet a pearl who was made to obey orders from someone then she fell in love and ran away.... With a ruby guard. Proving that even in their position, pearls aren't limited to care about a single person most and are even capable of fleeing them out or their own volition, if you give them enough time and experience.

Pearl could have met someone else on Earth while exploring it with her diamond and falling in love with them instead, she could have spent thousands of years only by Rose's side then go do her own thing the moment she gained freedom like Blue and Yellow pearls did, but she DIDN'T.

Because she loved ROSE as a person! As the person she became when she was free to act without restrictions, and the opposite was true as well.

Don't get me wrong, there are issues. Plenty of them. From both sides of the equation. Both Rose and Pearl were deeply traumatized and affected by everything they've been through and it made them make some bad choices and develop some truly horrible coping mechanisms and it's what led to the events of the show. Their story is supposed to be a tragedy, but the tragedy is that their love was real and they could have been happy if they were given the right tools to actually face their problems.

Look at Steven, the entire point of Future is that going through horrible stuff and not being given the right help can make anyone break down and hurt themselves and others. Does that mean that his and Connie's relationship is doomed? Of course not!

At first didn't wanted to reblog this bc I know people being this aggressively "this is horrible and you're a horrible person for liking it" about my ships and didn't want to subject others to that, but that meta was spot on.

One thing I noticed as I thought about why Pearls trauma resonates so hard despite me having a much more mundane life than Pearl, including, you know, not being a slave: The allegory aspect of the story. This is also really noticeable about how whiny people got about Steven not graphically killing the fascist war criminals aka the Diamonds, when the story works better if you don't see it that literal, but a space opera as allegory for a massively messed up family.

In Pearls case, her social status and relationship to Rose becomes someone in a very low ranking class who additionally struggles to fullfill that even just this role to be a valid member of that class. In my view, for example, a woman who can't even fully fulfill the the subservient, always pleasing and compassionate role because she's autistic and queer.

Rose then is someone who has a much higher social status and who is assigned power over Pearl in this status, but still trapped by all the obligations connected to that.

Yes, there is a power differential, and yes, they tried to unlearn and never completely managed, and that is tragic.

Crucially, it is not the exact same as say, a historical story about some rich noble woman running away to marry her slave girl. Because that is not what the story is meant to be, or wants to be. Don't read an allegory like a historical record.

Can't really put it into words better, but it is something about suspension of disbelieve, and genre expectations, and layers of storytelling? Which seems to be something a lot of people struggle with to take apart when engaging with stories.

You are correct too imo. If we read the Diamonds as LITERAL totalitarian dictators rather than an abusive family, the whole approach to the show makes less sense

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it

the thing about "birds are dinosaurs" is it forces people to confront the idea of dinosaurs as like a part of natural history, a biological animal clade that really for real lived and breathed and were sometimes strange and sometimes small and sometimes peaceful and sometimes ugly, and not as Cool Monsters or a metaphor for Progress. and people don't like that. they say no, actually, when i use dinosaur i mean "weird stupid extinct giant lizard lizard monster" and birds aren't part of that category. and i say. you shouldnt use dinosaurs that way. go suck a baculum.
