Words escaped him. Trust; something he desperately wanted since the first day. The pocket watch meant so much more to Damian than any other gift he’s gotten over the years. As he listened to his father’s explanation, Damian ran a finger on the engraving, following the W to the end. Beautifully crafted with precision and care. It truly was an honor to hold it.
He looked up to his father and gave a soft smile.
“ I-I was not expecting this, father. I am…honored you have chosen to present this to me. I hope, in the near future, I may be a suitable heir to the family. —And I promise to take care of it.” He replied. Pride stirred in chest, causing the ache he felt for such a long time to dissipate. In fact, it was like it wasn’t even there. His eyes stung, as he let out a shaky breath. “ T-Thank you, father. ”

Bruce nods. His bird is growing up, tall and strong as a tree, every day that passed reminded him of himself when he was young. The boy had been craving for that for sometime and Bruce could tell. He stands up and places a hand on his shoulder. He is not a boy anymore, he's a growing man. It's kind of melancholic but that's how it is, he's been there before with Dick, Jason and Tim.
“You're welcome. I'm sure your grandfather is proud, wherever his soul might be.”
the dark knight: WHERE'S MY AWARD
(armorstainedred): YOUR AWARD IS ME CONGRATULATIONS
(armorstainedred): jk im dead the joker killed me
the dark knight: STOP REMINDING ME
Damian followed his father into his grandfather’s study. The boy knew just how important that room was to Bruce. What more, the room was no longer covered in white sheets. Everything had a glow. Even the fireplace was lit. It was nice to see it finished. He was sure his grandfather was smiling down at them from heaven. This put Damian in a good mood.
“Was this it? Was this what you wanted to show me?” Damian asked, floating off to another direction. He approached his grandfather’s chair, the one next to the fireplace, then gently ran his hand on wood. “… … …” He was speechless. If it wasn’t the room, then…what? Damian enjoyed the moment, even as his father offered him something.
A box, which had an engraving…the Wayne family symbol.
Tiny fingers reached towards the box hesitantly. He was so nervous. Something so important had to be handled with care, and there he was, fearing that it would break. Very carefully, he took it from his father and held it in his hands, hugging it close to his body. He looked down at the Wayne insignia again, then back at his father.
“I…— … … … … what is it?”
––––– ·
He places both of his arms behind his back, one hand covering the other as he looks at the boy. “My father's pocket watch. My grandfather had it before him and I did the night before he and my mother were killed” he explains. “This is a symbol of trust, a torch I'm passing on to you” he explains “I want you to have it and take care of it as I do, and someday you might give it to your son as well” the man kneels to be at the other's height and places a hand on his shoulder. “I'm giving you this, Damian, because you are my legacy.”
Haaaappy Biiirthdaaaay!
; v ; EEEH! Thank you!!!
theworldisafraidofus:
“No. Follow me.”
What else was there to show him? Damian did what he was told. He slipped his feet into his slippers, then stood up from his bed. He grabbed his pajama coat on the way out, draping it over one arm, then the next.
–––––– ·
The man walks slowly yet firmly until they reach Thomas Wayne's study. There's a small black box on the desk. Bruce reaches it and turns around to his son. “A long time ago, my father kept this with him at all times, and for years I kept it by my side as well” his blue eyes looked at the small figure in front of him. He had grown ever since he put a foot into the manor, and he would keep on growing as tall as a tree. That brought a soft yet brief smile to the billionaire's face. So many things had happened that changed Damian and began to shape him into someone greater, better…
He offered the box to the boy.
“Happy birthday, son.”
//Happy Birthday!!
( ˃̆ૢ௰˂̆ૢഃ ) Thank you! Timbo bird remembered!
(*❛‿❛) Yo, a year older today!
For the longest moment, Jason glared into the eyes of the man he could barely remain in the same room with, who he had grown to detest for so long, his treatment of toward the other had sculpted into a state of perpetual disdain. He saw not the strict, high functional sociopathic of a detective, but a broken man.
"We’re still here." Barbara, Tim, everyone else. "We know the loss." —”Doing this isn’t about to help you cope,”
–––––––– ·
He turns around, giving him his back as some sort of defensive and quick movement. He knows the other is right but he isn't close to admit it. The detective then turns again and walks to the other, offering him his hand.
“Alfred made sandwiches” he simply comments. He has to put everything behind him, work with his children, let them stay close.
No more lies, he had promised.
But there is only one exception to the rule he himself created.
Tim rests a closed hand against his mouth, surveying the room. It’s a mess. There’s furniture broken and strewn around, and at least a pint and a half of blood spatter. “It looks staged,” Tim says eventually. There’s no logical movement that matches both a fight and the visible damage.
–––––––– ·
“This is a waste of time” he says, agreeing with his young bird. But there's something else, some sort of compound on the sample he took. “Penny-One” he says as he touches the com-link in his ear underneath his cowl “I will be sending you information regarding a particular compound. I need the results as soon as possible.”
The detective turns to face the other “I've seen this type of compound before. It's within the bio-weapons the Penguin has been doing deals with” the ones he destroyed months ago. Why are they back? Why risk it with such an obvious play? “But Cobblepot isn't so dramatic” referring to the scenario “I want you to take this to Penny-One, trace whatever remains could have leaked in Gotham. It's highly toxic and I don't want any civilians near it” he hands him the sample in a small tube.
“I've got to pay someone a visit.”
—"Ngh-!"He bowed from the impact to his gut, the air knocked out from his lungs harshly enough that he could barely breath. His head spun before coming in contact with the ground, inhaling sharply as he remained down.
"What happened wasn’t your fault,” He grounded out, hands flying to his head to shield himself as he flipped backward. “It’s not going to bring him back.”
–––––––– ·
He is right. Although alive nothing would bring Nightwing back. Poor Bruce drowned in guilt and anger and while it isn't as deep as it was once Damian died back then it's still deep enough to make him feel he's out of his center, his comfort zone, one step behind the fine line between madness and control.
He stays there and looks at the other. At his own son who's getting up after a short beat up. He simply observes him, he doesn't reply.
He is right after all.
–––––––– ·
“That's highly unlikely.”
"Maybe he just hasn’t been convicted of a crime before. His prints might not be on record."
–––––––– ·
The Dark Knight kneels and uses a few of his tools to take a sample. “What do you think happened here?” he says. Everything looks like a teacher and student situation.

“Not now, Robin.”
detectivebird reblogged your post –––––––– · “These fingerprints don’t... and added:
"So what, he was wearing someone else’s prints?”
–––––––– ·
“A valid hypothesis but take a look at the whole scenario before jumping to conclusions” Batman activates his Detective Mode vision and walks along the crime scene. “His prints aren't in the National Database…something's off”

“These fingerprints don't belong to him.”
