this is a little project i’ve had simmering for a bit, which i’m happy to share!
while initially it started as a VERY tweaked and messy combo of the Feargen and Don’t Be Afraid ( both TMA inspired ) challenges from the clangen discord, a bit of time down the line we ended here!
moon 0 follows a looser format, but the rest will play out more linear much like most clangen blogs!
some of the big inspirations for this blog are @jumalanpelko, @vespidclan, @fog-and-the-frost, @eggfish-cats, @bonefall ‘s clan culture expansions, and @chasing-faith-and-fate !
There’s been wailing and arguing from the medicine den all afternoon. It’s an observation Megabyte makes very quickly when Ibisshadow charges into camp a bit before sunhigh like a startled deer, face drenched in blood with a smell she couldn’t quite pinpoint. Not quite cat, but . . she wasn’t entirely sure what it was.
He was quickly ushered into the medicine den after that, and while she knows better than to snoop, she finds herself unable to help it once there’s audible yelling from inside.
Emberglide had gone out to get herbs, so Flaxgrowl found herself handling whatever the commotion was herself. Ibisshadow barely acknowledges her presence at his side, burying himself in the nest furthest from the den entrance and whimpering.
Upon rushing back into the medicine den with wet moss to clean off his face, which takes a heaping pawful of effort in itself, she finds that, strangely enough, there’s not a damaged hair or scratch on the silver tom’s pelt.
Not a single thing stuck under his claws to indicate he had fought anything, either.
The blood isn’t his whatsoever- Flaxgrowl isn’t even sure it belongs to a cat, with the odd smell. And whatever it did come from had already been wounded horribly when he found it.
The small cream molly crouches down at Ibisshadow’s side, trying to be level with his face as he frantically paws at it, not paying her presence any mind as if trying to further wash what she had already cleaned off of his pelt.
“ Ibisshadow, hey. ”
Her voice says soft as she tries to coax the tom into settling enough that he would at least be able to pay attention. He pauses the behavior long enough to stare with wide eyes, but his body continues trembling as if drenched in cold water.
“Ibisshadow, whatever you saw isn’t here in camp. But in order to keep it out, you need to tell me what happened, ok? ”
His eyes remain wide almost as if he finds the question ridiculous. He stares at the moss beneath his paws almost listlessly, claws flexing into the nest further.
“ …no face… ”
“ Its face was missing? ”
Considering the blood and what Flaxgrowl could only imagine a cat with its face torn looked like, it would explain Ibisshdow’s reaction. But he seems to already have guessed where her train of thought was going, as he frantically shakes his head in a “no”.
“ Not- not like that. No, like. It already wasn’t there. Just fur. No eyes, no nose, nothing. ”
Furred animal, no face, big enough to have that much blood. Flaxgrowl had no idea what he was describing, and he seemed to catch that as he continues.
“ You don’t- you don’t believe me, do you? ”
He stares almost in horror at even the slightest shift of the medicine cats expression, and she quickly shakes her head, attempting to raise a calming paw to his shoulder.
“ I didn’t say that, I’m just trying to understand- ”
“ YOU JUST THINK I’M CRAZY! I KNEW IT! ”
The silver tom flinches away from her paw and breaks into a caterwaul, despise Flaxgrowl’s reassurances. He backs himself to the corner of the nest, fur raised and tail lashing, and he just hisses whenever Flaxgrowl tries to get close.
i did not know this was originally feargen i just followed bc it looked awesome and i loved the artstyle... if u didnt know hi. i made feargen and i get so giddy seeing people use my silly challenge. i cannot wait to see where this goes!! ^_^
aaaa i’m really happy to hear that!
yep, TEW initially started as a feargen run with a few modded in aspects ( patrols, interactions, thoughts, etc ) to better depict the world these cats were susceptible to! down the line though i kept making up my own added rules and we landed here.
i DID however keep track of the original cast’s ( +megabyte bc she’s Lovely ) fear marks / alignments, if anyone was curious! whether these are utilized later on or not is up to fate …
Flowerstep from @fallenclan (the clangen blog that got me inspired to make my own!!)
Oakflame from @daisyclan (a really beautiful art style I'm excited to see more of! I got suggested Sunstar first but I had Oakflame in mind before I even asked for suggestions)
Flipkite from @murkclan-clangen (what a cute guy, I hope I did the ears alright)
Rattlepaw from @gloomclan (I'm impressed with how detailed the striping is!!)
Wingstar from @all-is-well-in-haven-colony (what a unique art style, I hope I did it justice)
Wolfpaw from @they-erased-windclan (so beautiful, I was blown away by Wolfpaw's prettiness!!)
Thank you to everyone who suggested these kitties, I had a lot of fun drawing them all!
Ibisshadow likes his morning hunts. Alone. Nobody except him, the pale rays of early dawn, and the babbling of the stream.
So when he trots over to his usual spot, usually flourishing with fish this time of year, to see a cat wading in the water and disrupting his routine and the prey? He’s already agitated until sunhigh.
The silver furred tom stalks across the sand, preparing to flex his claws.
“Hey, you. You’re trespassing on Riverclan territory and disrupting the fish. Get out of the water. ”
As he nears closer, the cat looks at him.
Or at least he thinks they look. Even so close, he couldn’t find himself able to make out their features, other than a dull gray pelt. They seem to listen avidly, cautiously trodding out of the water and standing on the rocks nearby.
On the Riverclan side.
Did they think he was playing some sort of game?
He slinks closer, eyes narrowed, as he somewhat pushes the other back towards the water with a rough paw.
“Unless you have something to tell Aloestar, you need to leave. Other side of the water, buddy.”
Their ears twitch almost nervously, and from what he can make of their expression, they seem upset, fretful. They push back. Harshly.
Ibisshadow is thrown off how easily the cat shoves him to the ground almost apologetically. They still don’t say a word, however,
