The lyric in Dorothea where Taylor sings “making a lark of the misery” or the mother’s “pageant schemes” is really interesting and melancholy to me. The song ‘Dorothea’ is seen as such a happy song but when you listen to the lyrics it alludes to something so much deeper. Lark is a British term for messing around doing something fun and destructive ; the song is about making the best of a bad lonely situation. The lyrics allude to familial issues from the perspective of Dorothea and I don’t know, I think it proves how much Taylor’s lyrics are underestimated. It’s seen as the “happy” song of the album but it speaks of hardship, emotional abuse, love. It’s lyrically bittersweet and almost haunting. I just think it’s beautiful, it deserves more credit.
