Not Just a Cruise Director (Chuck/Ten!)
“Won’t hear any different from me. I’ve been following you since Mickey’s blog went back up a couple of years ago, kind of like my fans follow me. I guess you might call me a fan of your work.”
Chuck smirked at the Doctor. “It’s not obvious? You’re a fixer. I mean, sure you come with baggage, but what doctor doesn’t? You save lives, you don’t ask for thanks. You’ve got a god complex, but, once again, what doctor doesn’t? And you’ve transformed so many lives. Oh God, listen to me, I’m sorry, I’m gushing,” Chuck said, looking away a little bit and trying not to blush as he fawned over the man.
“I’m sorry. It’s not my best work. Oh, no, I didn’t- I actually wrote them without knowing Sam and Dean were real people. Apparently, I am or was or something a prophet of God. But let’s keep that between you and me for right now. I’m trying not to let something like that get too far afield.”
“Ah! Good old Mickey!” the Doctor replied with a broad grin. That was someone he hadn’t thought about in a while. Most of his memories of Mickey were tied to Rose, which was a sore subject on its own, but Mickey was a brilliant young man. He definitely had a lot going for him. “I had no idea he had a blog, but that shouldn’t surprise me. He’s a good lad.”
His brows rose as the man gushed. It was strange meeting a fan. Most people either hadn’t heard of him or had it out for him. This was definitely a new experience. Perhaps one day he’d have to sent Mickey a fruit basket or whatever people were sending in gratitude these days.
“I try to be a fixer, but I must admit I tend to make things up as I go along. The human race—I’ll never get done saving you lot. You’re brilliant, all of you! Though some of you are rather dull, but we won’t talk about them. This is something I haven’t seen before. At first I thought it was blood control…a bit archaic, I’ll admit, but a very effective scare tactic. I had no idea the supernatural even existed until recently. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’ve met gods, demi gods, men who thought they were gods, but I have to admit this is my first go around with demons.” He paused, frowning suddenly. “A prophet of God? How does that work exactly? I’ve heard about them in human mythology, naturally, but I never got any hints as to how it worked. Not to worry, though, your secret is safe with me. I’m the King of Secrets! No, don’t call me that. That’s a rubbish title.”
Chuck shrugged. "Well, I'm glad you're okay with him having a blog. I mean, there were a lot of little hints about you but stumbling onto that blog, man," Chuck whistled low. "I'm glad you're here, Doctor. I really mean it."
Chuck was amused by the way the Doctor rambled. Usually, he was the one rambling, trying to defend a choice or an action. But listening to the Doctor was like watching a man pick words from a kitchen shelf and make a meal out of them. It was a talent and an honor.
Somebody was going to have to scrape Chuck off the floor if he wasn't careful.
"No, I think spontanaety's alright where we're concerned, here. I mean, the world's changed, so the tricks have to change with it, right?"
"It's not about existence of the supernatural but maybe about its tangibility?" Chuck offered. "It seems like visiting different worlds, you'd get all this different little flavors but here it's just so bold and in your face and not always in the best ways I guess."
"I don't think I'll call anybody around here king of the secrets, although I do have a couple that I keep. Not sure how it works exactly, it get bad headaches- I see things that are gonna happen, use to write them in books, use them now to keep the occassional step ahead. As much good as it did me for this run-in with lice."
