Morella definitely planned how, when and where she should do this talk and waited for the right moment

She approaches Annabel like she's a wounded animal, she kneels down so as not to scare her off and to show her that she's vulnerable

I don't think she chose to do it in that room at that hour with malicious intent, I think she specifically chose it because she thought Annabel felt safe and also there wouldn't be anyone eavesdropping (also explains why she waited for Dolly to leave)

Spoilers for ep 163 (today's free one):

Morella really does have Annabel figured out, much more thoroughly than I ever expected.

I don't mean in terms of her relationship with Lenore: evidently she hasn't realised that the ring is an engagement ring (makes sense, given that Annabel doesn't wear it on her left hand), and given the time period she comes from, I don't think she'd make that connection unless she makes the connection about Lenore having pretended to be a man first.

I mean that she's figured out how Annabel thinks.

She knows how important appearances are to Annabel, and she knows that Annabel would never take the key if she felt that it would place her in debt to Morella. So Morella frames it as though Annabel is doing her a favour. They both know why she's really doing it, of course, but it lets Annabel maintain appearances. And then she hands Annabel a tiny bit of power over her in the bargain, by letting her know that Nurse Dolly would not approve of what Morella is doing. And then follows it up with one more assurance that she means no harm, which wouldn't do much on its own, but might tip the scale when stacked with everything else.

Now, I do currently believe that she is sincere. It's always a possibility that she has ulterior motives, ofc, but I'm gonna need more evidence before I start getting suspicious. No, I think she does genuinely want to help. I just think that she's also very good at reading people. And she's putting those skills to good use here.
