Oh Lord, replace my sadness with something beautiful.
āConditions are never perfect. āSomedayā is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. If itās important to you, and you want to do it āeventuallyā, just do it - and correct your course along the way.ā
ā Tim Ferriss
It is no accident that outspoken critiques of race and gender inequities are often silent about class. For class touches us all in the place where we live, whether we are economically advantaged or disadvantaged. Folks without privilege, who are yearning to have, do not want to be critical of class elitism, and folks with privilege, who want to maintain it at the expense of others, are careful not to talk about ending class hierarchies.
bell hooks, from āLiving Without Class Hierarchyā, Where We Stand: Class Matters (2000)
āMillions of people have decided not to be sensitive. They have grown thick skins around themselves just to avoid being hurt by anybody. But it is at great cost. Nobody can hurt them, but nobody can make them happy either.ā

iāve decided to become okay with the part of me that aināt shit. and by aināt shit , i mean. i REALLY am starting to become okay with the parts of myself that are less than desirable. iām admitting that there are certain traumas from my childhood that affect the way i give and receive love, and iām open to realizing my part in all the bullshit. iām open to owning those toxic behavior patterns and recognizing them before permanent damage has taken place.Ā
the closer and closer i get to 30, the more iām like YO. SIS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME TO BE WITH THE FUCK SHIT. YOU WANT YOUR 30S TO MAKE UP FOR ALL THIS BULLSHIT YOUāVE BEEN THROUGH. LETāS GET THROUGH THIS SHIT SO IT CAN BE GONE FOR GOOD. thatās work. work is scary. work is ugly. work is confronting parts of yourself you tucked away for years and years hoping no one would ever shine a light on it.Ā
*but*
Ā anyone who has ever known what it felt like to get free would tell you .... the results are worth it. iām tryna get free. AND BEFORE 30, GOTDAMNIT.Ā
-the more work i do, the more obstacles jump in my way, the more time ticks and ticks and ticks without a secondās thought to if EYE have even recovered from the last 10 minutes- I realize that if iām gonna do this, I MIGHT AS WELL MAKE THE JOURNEY SWEET. I might as well go a little easier on myself. Keep the standards high, keep the work ethic clean, but give myself grace.Ā
Today on the hiking trail I was cursing myself for the entire first 1/4 of a mile. Itās been weeks since I CONSISTENTLY hiked, and I knew I was taking twice my normal time. It was hot, I was thirsty, I was tired, yadayadayada. After damn near passing out I realizedĀ
1) I wasnāt turning aroundĀ
2) It was either mentally motivate myself and finish the trail or bitch outĀ
I decided to start affirming myself instead.. I sang along to the saddest yet happiest song in the world (Return of the Mack) and I told myselfĀ āAmani, you know youāre the bounce back queen. Handle this shitā I paced myself and sipped my water, stopping if I absolutely needed to but otherwise, getting my hike on. I made it to the top and as I sat at the top of the mountain overlooking my neighborhood, I thanked the Creator as always. I tried to focus on the progress I HAVE made, knowing I felt some low ass lows just one year ago at this very spot.Ā
I came home to my new but ghetto ass neighborhood and cleansed my place. I rewarded myself with a luxurious ass deep condition and face mask while playing some Tuamie and eating gyoza. And you know what? I felt like I deserved it this time.Ā
hereās to getting free and giving ourselves grace.
*sips whiskey*Ā
To be honest.. if more children were shown from birth that they are loved, cared for, and listened no matter their gender we might not have some of the problems we have now.Ā Ā
i wish i would have had this instead of being berated for even liking the opposite sex at allĀ

Since Hurricane Maria, people in Puerto Rico have been without easy access to electricity, clean drinking water, or food. Many are still staying in shelters; some are living in the ruins of their homes. The once-lush green trees were stripped bare and uprooted.
But all is not lost.
There are two quintessential Puerto Rican sounds that survived:
One is the plaintive song of the tiny coqui frog.
The other is the improvised Afro-Puerto Rican call-and-response musical tradition known as Plena.

I was asked to make a masterpost on websites like Codecademy, so Iāve tried to compile a list of the best (and mostly free!!). In no particular order:Ā
1. Codecademy [x]
I couldnāt not include Codecademy! Just in case you havenāt checked it out, itās pretty neat. It has courses for learning languages and web developer skills.
Languages: Python, Ruby, Java, PHP, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
Extras: Git, SQL, Command Line, AngularJS, Ruby on Rails
2. Code School [x]
This is pretty similar to Codecademy with the in-browser coding and such. It also has additional features like teaching videos. A good introduction to programming languages.
Languages: Python, Ruby, Javascript, HTML/CSS
Extra: iOS development with Objective-C or Swift, Git, SQL
3. Learnaroo [x]
Has tutorials followed by mini challenges based on the concepts youāve just learnt! It also has some reference pages called āLearn x by Exampleā. Looks pretty good.
Languages: Python, Java, Ruby, HTML/CSS
Extra: Algorithms, Mathematics, + a bunch of premium membership stuff
4. Learn ā¦Ā
A set of related websites (see below) which have mini tutorials on language concepts followed by mini challenges, similar to Learnaroo.
Languages: Python, Java, C, C#, Ā JavaScipt, PHP, Shell
5. Code Combat [x]
Basically, it turns learning to code into a game! As you move through the levels, new concepts are introduced, so the code you need to write to play the game gets harder.Ā
Languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, CoffeeScript, Clojure, Lua
6. Codingame [x]
Similar idea to Code Combat, but a little more advanced.Ā
Languages: Python, Java, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Haskell, VB ⦠thereās actually loads it supports.
7. Code Wars [x]
This is more forĀ ātrainingā with a language you already know. It offers plenty of practice through challenges, so itās really good for improving your coding skills.Ā
Languages: Python, Ruby, Java, C#, Haskell, JavaScript, CoffeeScript, Clojure
8. Coderbyte [x]
This offers some video tutorials and challenges for a few languages, plus special courses on specific algorithms and bootcamp/interview prep. You need a premium membership for quite a lot of things, though (e.g. I donāt think you can watch any of the videos with a free membership).
Languages: Python, Ruby, JavaScript
Extras: Algorithms, Bootcamp Prep, Job Interview Prep
9. Free Code Camp [x]
Mini tutorials followed by mini challenges. Has a number of courses on the languages below!
Languages: HTML/CSS, jQuery, JavaScript
Extras: Git, Algorithms, + a bunch of projects to complete
10. Programmr [x]
Has courses to learn various languages through doing little exercises/challenges in the browser, similar to previous examples. Also hasĀ āzonesā for more languages, where you can find challenges, example code and projects people have shared.Ā
Languages: Python, Java, C++, C#, PHP, jQuery
11. CheckIO [x]
Only offers Python, but I still think itās really great. You move from level to level, getting challenges which are gradually trickier. Learn by doing!
12. Rails for Zombies [x]
For people who already know a bit of Ruby, but nothing about Ruby on Rails!Ā Each level begins with a short video followed by interactive challenges where you program Rails in the browser.
Thatās all (for now!) Hope this is helpful! (ļ¾^ā^)ļ¾ļ¾

Sharing my bookmarks with the Tumblr community. Have fun!
Linguistics
WALS
Linguasphere - Kind of like WALS, if I remember correctly, but not quite. (Note: The website is in French.)
GOLD - a unique listing of linguistic terms and definitions. Right now it appears to be having technical issues, but when it works itās really great. Just click āView GOLDā at the top.
Many Languages (or General Resources)
This is a directory of apparently scanned PDFs of many, many, many books regarding various languages. There are grammars, dictionaries, and more for more than 25 languages.
Conjuguemos: An awesome website, Conjuguemos has verb and vocabulary activities in several (mostly Romance) languages.
A directory of online dictionaries for around 200 languages. Truly an amazing resource.
Duolingo - donāt tell me you donāt know what this is.

Quizlet - flash cards and accompanying games. There are also many apps that connect to Quizlet and provide Spaced Repetition or other activities with the cards.
Lang-8 - write in the language youāre learning, let others correct you. In turn, you correct posts in your native language.
Lingocracy - for reading in your target language.
LingQ links you (get it? LingQ, link you? HAHA) to native speakers around the world. You can join live conversations, get writing corrected, and so on and do the same for them.)
FluentU - a compilation of real world videos in your target language with interactive captions.

The US governmentās Foreign Service Institute has grammars in many many languages.
Omniglot - writing, writing, and more writing. Goes over the writing system and accompanying pronunciation of every language imaginable, including many conlangs and extinct languages. Truly amazing resource.
LanguageRealm has some good stuff for the languages that it features.
AncientScripts is another website for writing systems, but it is restricted to ancient scripts, many of which are for languages now out of use.
Transparent Language Blog is wonderful. The right side has a list of the languages for which they have any content posted - and for each language there is quite a bit.
SaySomethingIn⦠is most useful for Welsh but has a few other languages. It involves sessions of listening and repeating along with eventual reading and grammar.
Digital Dialects - games for learning basic vocabulary in lots and lots of languages.
LanguageReef - Indian languages. So many Indian languages.
200 Word Project - learn the basic vocabulary of six African languages by clicking and listening to native pronunciations.
Letās not forget Wikipedia. Not only does the English version have something on just about any language imaginable, but the website has articles available in lots of languages. I like clicking the āRandom articleā button and reading whatever comes up.
Spanish
Spanish grammar, vocab, and culture at About.com.
Study Spanish has lots of good stuff for all levels and is one of the websites I used when first taking up Spanish.
Top 25 Telenovelas from 5 Spanish-Speaking Countries

SpanishSkulduggery is the greatest Spanish Tumblr blog in the universe.
French
Grammar, vocab, and culture can be found at French at about.com.
Grammar. Lots of it.
French equivalent of Simple English Wikipedia.
AwesomeFrench is the greatest French Tumblr blog in the universe. She answers questions about culture and grammar, but donāt be one of those annoying people that asks homework questions or advice about how to turn on your French boyfriend or girlfriend.
Japanese
Online Japanese textbook that comes highly recommended but that I have not personally tried.
Culture, culture, and more culture.
Namasenseiās Japanese lessons on YouTube. Goes kind of slowly, and itās unique because the guy doing the tutorials is usually fairly drunk when he records. But he is living in Japan and has some interesting advice as well as a good understanding of the language.
Japanese from Zero on YouTube - amazing collection of videos ranging from pure grammar lessons to questions and useful explanations
Tae Kimās grammar guide is seriously one of the best resources out there. And itās totally free. You can navigate the website, download a PDF for free, or buy a print version.
Japanese at About.com.
A wonderful blog, Tofugu has grammar, vocab, and lots and lots of culture.
The best Japanese dictionary.
A bit of script, a bit of grammar, and a bit of reading. I link it mostly for the page on the numeral system, which is excellent.
Just lots of good stuff here, including a nice list of important upper-level words.
One of many websites for learning kanji, Kanjidamage is interesting because the author has a good sense of humor and also explains a lot about the history of the Japanese writing system, so that you can understand it better.
Kana Invaders - a fun 8-bit game for learning kana.
Arabic
Tutorial on the Arabic alphabet.
Arabic script lessons.
Lessons on the Arabic script.
Arabic script tutorial.

A PDF of the book Arabic Verbs and Essentials of Grammar.
A nice PDF regarding the Arabic pronouns.
You can search the Quran in Classical Arabic here.
Classical Arabic: LearnArabicOnline.com. This is a fantastic resource in that it not only talks about reading and grammar, but also writing styles and eloquence in writing. It is strictly for Classical Arabic, however, not modern spoken or Modern Standard Arabic.
Hindi
Hindi script - really good animations of stroke order and how to write as well as providing instructions on writing.
Quillpad looks like a really great tool for typing in Hindi as well as other Indian languages. Simply type the English letters and the computer converts it. (Note: for beginners still trying to learn the script, learn the script and manually put the characters in. Force yourself to write the script to get yourself to think in that language!)
Beginnerās grammar lessons. Really a good page.
Five Hindi lessons that cover quite a bit.
More grammar because itās important.
Russian
Russian Alphabet with Sound and Handwriting. Some lessons on writing and spelling from the same website are here.
Just a good graphic on the Cyrillic alphabet in cursive form.
Excellent PDF of Russian grammar. Requires knowledge of Cyrillic to understand examples.
Learn Russian Language - another good website for grammar rules along with the alphabet, pronunciation, and a bit of culture.
100 Top Resources for Learning Russian according to some person. Actually a really good list, includes rough level at which youāll find each resource useful and the list is broken down by category (textbooks, online, stuff, etc.).
Old English
Grammar rules in detail. AMAZING website.
Here is Beowulf in Old English. Thereās also a link to a modern English translation just under the title of the page.

Here is a nice PDF on some of the characteristics of the Estonian language.
Grammar. This page links to the intermediate stuff; you can go to the menu at the top, and the really basic stuff will be under Discover Estonia.
An interesting-looking not-Tumblr blog about Estonian.
Simple phrases and some listening can be found here.
Finnish
Some basic grammar here.
Here is a great resource with video, explanations, and thematic lesson organization.
Lots and lots of good stuff here.
Esperanto
Collection of Esperanto journals. A.k.a. digital Esperanto library.
Grammar.
More grammar, this time in book form from Project Gutenberg.
Even more grammar.
German
Kidsā games for German vocab and stuff.
DW - German news website. Available in 30 languages, however.
Welsh
Lots of vocabulary. (Note: In my experience, this website has only been marginally useful because it doesnāt give gender, some of its nouns are plural when they should be singular, and so on.)
A long, detailed, well-explained resource from the BBC on Welsh grammar.
Xhosa
A study sheet for grammar.
A short introduction to grammar. Dense with linguistic jargon, but can generally be followed.
This is a really good video for listening to the clicks involved in Xhosa pronunciation, including the one that begins the languageās name. He has other lessons, as well.
Mandarin
Some themed vocabulary lists. Actually lots of them.
Here is a more or less miscellaneous collection of concepts and vocab about the Chinese language and culture.
MandarinMadeEZ - Some fun and simple YouTube lessons from Fiona Tian. Sheās kind of awkward so if youāre looking for something really serious, donāt go here. Also, cats.
Native American Langauges
Here is an excellent resource for many Native American languages in general.
More links - only some of these are really good, but most of them are useful.
Cherokee language lessons. The link goes to the Cherokee syllabary and pronunciation. Also some readings available.
Navajo - lots of fun stuff!
Nahuatl grammar, pronunciation, etc... generally a good PDF.
A dictionary of Nahuatl.
Other
Italian: Good website for grammar rules.
Greek: Some lessons on New Testament Greek grammar.
Romanian: RoLang - audio and video lessons.
Hebrew: The Bible in Hebrew can be searched here.
And finally, I recently started a resources tag (here) that I think Iāll just link to rather than trying to transfer all that stuff over to this post.
I apologize that some of these headings have only one or two resources for them⦠but remember that the āMany Languagesā category can not only provideĀ a lot of further resources and information for the languages listed here, but can also provide stuff for languages not mentioned here!
If you guys have more stuff youād like me to add for any language, send it to me and Iāll check it out and maybe update this post :)
Have fun and good luck :D
