You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN
I feel like a dumbass, but @rapidashmascot just revolutionised my understanding of that parable.
I did a double take when I saw this.

i will be making my chaotic, messy post about dickinson ending later on, but for a show with SO MUCH symbolism, can we just take a moment to talk about how when higgingson said “people might have to wait centuries to understand her” and then the camera pans to sue. the power and truth that shot holds is insane. because of dickinson, people have learned about emily’s queerness because that aspect of her life is so erased from society and discussion about her today. and it truly has taken so much time for people to break through the myths and lies told about emily’s life and the person she was. knowing how much sue was to emily and how much she influenced and impact emily’s poems gives so much new value and understanding to emily’s poems and how we see them today. it is so surreal that we now have access to emily’s poems and letters because they share the unfiltered truth of her life, and dickinson is such a huge part of that process. man, i’m gonna miss this show.
