So, as it turns out...

The feedback on this one has led to a revelation. Three and a half decades of developing my pshop technique of collage - building up layers of my own sketches and photos over open-source images with careful use of opacity and blending, then single-pixel detailing of edges and ecotones with various brushes and smudge/dodge/eraser/adjustment etc. tools - is now worthless because someone wrote a program that can do it faster.

No, wait. It's more specific than that. My skills are worthless because it is now impossible to distinguish between Artificial Ignorance and Actual Human Laziness.

Not while I was there. Honestly, in Star Trek, the practicalities of interspecies reproduction weren't ever really something we worried about. How does a Cardassian/Bajoran pregnancy work? I'm not even sure Cardassians are mammals. Human/Vulcan? They don't even have compatible blood types. But it works because... ummm... Progenitors! Similarly, if a joined Trill can get pregnant (and I don't think we ever said either way, but maybe I'm wrong) then a hybrid pregnancy should be fine. Do Trills even carry fetuses to viability? Maybe they're marsupials? Progenitors!

went on facebook for a minute and in one of the Firefly discussion groups I'm in someone asked "who or how do you think they did laundry on the ship?" and a large amount of the comments are like "you sound like you have too much free time if you're thinking about this 😝" or "the writers probably didn't mean for us to think about that". In a group literally dedicated to discussing the show. Anyway how do you folks here think they did laundry on the ship

They had a laundry cable.

They'd clamp their dirty clothes to the cable and fly it out of a special aft bunghole in the ship so that the absolute zero of void could kill bacteria and sterilize the clothing.

For stubborn stains, they'd fly close to a powerful source of radiation. Slight bleaching effect on natural fabrics.

There was that one time with the liquid nitrogen-rich planetoid and the chunk of space hail with a crunchy surprise center...
