Basecamp – “Emmanuel”
Pairs Well With…Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, James Blake
It doesn’t take long for Basecamp’s debut single “Emmanuel” to take hold. A swirl of reversed fragments of sound kicks off the highlight track, bubbling vibrating vocal harmonies within seconds. This experimentation continues, but instead of diving backwards into a sonic abyss, Basecamp flip the script and turn “Emmanuel” into slithery R&B song. A sense of yearning resides through Basecamp’s introductory EP, taking elements of hip hop and pop R&B and filtering them through a trio of creative minds. The detail in Basecamp’s production is meticulous and tight, a headphone record for sure. It’s wild that this sound is coming out of Nashville, guess there are some darker, mysterious hideouts in Music City these days.

Bathing suits are not the only things that have gotten smaller in the past fifty years.
All these photos were taken on the same dock after fishing trips in the same waters. The last one was taken by post-doc Loren McClenachan, the rest were compiled by her from the records at Key West’s Monroe County Public Library.
Using the display boards as a size reference (they haven’t changed in half a century), McClenachan was able to accurately plot the shrinking size of the fish.
