Cross off what you’ve done in 2012: 

Gotten a new piercing.  Dyed my hair. Ended a relationship. Started a new relationship. Been on a long car/bus journey. Passed an exam. Met someone who’s now an important part of my life.  Cried on someone’s shoulder. Had a massive fight with a boy/girl. Received flowers. Had a Valentine. Written a letter using pen & paper. Gone to see a therapist. Been prescribed medication by a doctor. Read a really good book. Gone to the zoo. Spent too much money on unnecessary things. Traveled by train. Cried over a member of the opposite sex. Spent the day out in the sun getting a tan. Slammed a door out of frustration. Had an anxiety attack. Babysat for a friend’s child. Had a BBQ. Gone to the fair. Gone bowling. Seen a film at the cinema in 3D. Gone on a date.  Been the only sober one on a night out. Helped someone home after they had been drinking. Stayed up all night. Talked on the phone for over two hours. Supported someone who’d received bad news. Watched some kind of live sporting event. Read an entire book in one day. Bought a DVD the day it was released. Eaten McDonald’s more than four times in a single week.  Cried as a result of exam stress. Met some incredible new people. Gone to great parties. Fallen backwards off a chair

Broken my glasses.

Worn a watch for the first time in years. Cried over someone in my past. Spent hours aimlessly browsing the internet. Thrown up. Cried over a film. Gone out of my way to avoid an ex-boy/girlfriend. Fought with someone in public.

Been in a relationship for a year or longer. 

Cried in front of someone I adore. Lost one of my closest friends.

Violin Probs...

Today, I realized that I have been playing violin for about 6.5 years and have only played 10 substantial orchestral works. I have also only learned 3 solos, only one being some what substantial(NYSSMA level 5). I kind of feel like a failure. ugh. sigh.

Applying to Juilliard Pre College...

I am applying to be a composition major. The website says two or more manuscripts are to be sent and I am sending 5. At this time most of the compositions are about half written. Or I know what they are going to sound like. The final names I have chosen for the compositions are:

- Sophia Rose

- Sierra Mae

- Alexander's Lullaby

- Paris Rose Annamarie

- Renato

Sophia Rose is a viola and flute duet. Sierra Mae is a string orchestra piece. Alexander's Lullaby is going to be either a trio or quartet of bass cello. Paris Rose Annamarie is a violin, viola, cello, bass quartet. Renato is also string orchestra piece.

Only three composition majors are graduating this year so I don't know what a great of a chance I have. I just hope that I get past pre-screening. And if I get past pre-screening, at the audition I have to perform on my instrument of choice. If I do go to the audition I am going to play Sonata No. 1, Presto by Bach for unaccompanied violin. I really want this. I hope admissions at least gives me a chance to go to the live audition.

OH! And there are 16 graduating violin majors. I wonder if somehow I "wow" Juilliard  enough they would let me play in PCO or PCS. But probably not because I would most definitely not get in if I was applying as a violin major.

I'm learning a movement of a Bach sonata...

It is Bach Sonata No. 1, Movement 4, Presto for unaccompanied violin. Has anyone ever played this piece? I love it and I love Bach but I can't practice more than 30 minutes without my left forearm hurting and cramping up. Has anyone had this happen playing this piece or any other presto/allegro/fast-paced solos? 

Also, I'm going to have to memorize it. I have never has experienced with memorizing music like this before. Does anyone have any tricks for memorization?
