She sits silently at the end of the jocks’ and cheerleaders’ table, and Chrissy thinks that her absence would certainly go unnoticed. Then a voice breaks through the brouhaha and she can’t help but lift her eyes from the numbers and look at him, at his pantomime, at his confidence and at his weird but evident charisma. He yells a few words about conformity and freedom and society and cages and boxes… Eddie’s usual battles. Her mouth curls up. Hastily, Chrissy hides her smile, pressing the book against her lips, and feels Jason’s arm wrapping around her shoulders with a annoyed sigh. “Let’s go all outside,” he asks orders the table. She shuts her book and the smile is gone.
