Reading: i have my fingers in so many literary pies RN, but the one I'm working on the most is The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs by Stephen Brusatte, which is sort of THE pop science dino book.

Last Film: a total goofball gag-fest that's also the last movie one of my favorite exploitation director did, aka Frank Henenlotter's Bad Biology. A woman has six clits and can't stop killing guys by how hard she comes. Meanwhile, a man's penis is sentient. Features an end credits rap song from the producer about how hard it was to make the movie.

Last Series: i've been watching a lot of Bewitched on Tubi. sitcoms kinda rule. perfect to watch while you eat your spaghetti.

But what did you think of The Thin Man?? The first is really the best of the series. Watching The Thin Man series is a Christmas/New Year's tradition, so I can confirm the second film isn't bad either. It's...not equal to the first, but not weak by any means. Second film has a young newcomer Jimmy Stewart stretching those dramatic muscles. William Powell and Myrna Loy just...I mean it doesn't get any better than those two together. And the script. 😍 The pacing. The dialogue.

Reading: Still Cold Zero by Brad Thor with Ward Larsen, because I've been sidetracked by The Darwin Affair by Timothy Mason

Last Song: Love Me or Leave Me (as sung by Doris Day, in film about Ruth Etting, entitled the same)

Film: We're No Angels (1955) Hilarious black comedy starring Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, and Humphrey Bogart. These three together 🫶

Last Series: Binging the HELL out of Match Game. Up to Match Game 76. Laugh out loud outrageousness.

Coffee or Tea: Both but the amount of tea I have to drink for health reasons is...crazy. I have to mix tea bags together to make it all work. I do Decaf Green Tea with Spearmint and Chamomile with Ginger at night. And then occasionally add a Red Raspberry Leaf (high as heck in tannins and I have a strong tannin sensitivity).

Working on: My Green Hornet 1966 fic/series sequel, Silent Night Stinger: A Very Red and Green Hornet Christmas

People also don’t seem to be able to comprehend the Sylvari aren’t human tbh

Like I just saw someone claim the Pale Tree intentionally put pressure on her kids to grow into perfect beings but this is some serious selective memory

- The Pale Tree was the first being from the lost dragon pods to emerge

- This placed her as the matriarch of The Grove whether she liked it or not

- With not much time afforded to her, more pods start opening with more Sylvari

- The Pale Tree knows they come from the dragon and that if she doesn’t plant the correct seeds of culture in their minds from birth, they can go back to the dragon (the Nightmare Court are literally Sylvari who feel the call of the dragon’s absence) 

- So to stop Tyria from being overrun by angry, lost, homicidal dragon children, she took up the teachings from those tablets and made them the central point of Sylvari culture

- It wasn’t because “all my babies have to be perfect uwu”

- it was because she was trying to prevent future wars and massacres

- Literally every action she has ever taken in regards to The Grove or her children is because she’s trying to protect Tyria from them, and them from themselves

When you put her actions in that scope it’s really ridiculous imo to act like she’s just a bad parent equivalent to actual abusers. She has one of the biggest burdens in all of Tyria- stopping a whole ass population of beings she loves from going insane and trying to destroy the world. The Sylvari’s whole existence and The Pale Tree’s whole existence are in complete defiance to the dragons, dragon influence, and honestly nature itself. The fact as many of them as there are don’t fall to Nightmare or dragon influence is pretty shocking, and we probably have the Pale Tree  and the teachings of the tablet to thank for that.

She’s morally ambiguous at times, yep, but for very good reason. Honestly she’s the closest equivalent to the Commander narratively in the game; they both have way more responsibility than they should, are doing their best to make hard but benevolent decisions with that responsibility, and everyone judges them overly much when one of the dozens of important and difficult decisions they have to make that day end in some kind of failure.

So there is actually context to this i think. The consortium is holding a contest. And our guy here seems like he is absolutely sure he will not win.

The big yellow paper that’s on all desks reads: “Privilege and Confidential: Attention consortium employees. It’s that time of year again. Time to dust the old brains off and come up with a new company slogan. We’ve found that revenue spiked everytime we change our appearance. Thinking innovate thought process to bear on this project. Good luck and most importantly, Have fun.” I then went around all the desks to see what they came up with. The crying guy’s desk has three slivers of paper that are readable. They read: “What have you got to lose?” “Could be worse I guess” “The least rough sand in the world” “Keep rolling rolling rolling” Other desks have papers with: “Romance is the beach in more than just a drink” “We are the Future” “Where the fun comes home” “Catch the feeling” “Changing the world one aquisition at a time” “A new world awaits” “When was the last time you had a good time” “We ‘Care’.“ Other interesting bits of test: The bucket of water has a text saying: “Due to prolonged water break conversations, managment has reduced the number of ladles to one.” The blue banner in the back of the office reads: “Mission statement: We pledge to support shareholders, vendors, customers and employees as they endeavor to achieve prosperity and realize their dreams, all thanks to our wide array of products and services.”
