A Mobile Makeover
Weāre in a veritable decorating frenzy these days, what with the release of our first ever House & Home catalog, a series of awe-inspiring vignettes from boho bungalows to modern-prep pied-a-terres to romantic country villas, and as luck would have it, weāre not the only ones. Blogger Sarah Schneider of @lovesarahschneider got her talented hands on a vintage Airstream, the Wandering Star, and gave it a stem-to-stern makeover using some of our newest home decor offerings. We asked her to share some details of her small-space, big-impact renovation and her plans for the Airstreamās future.
The Airstream looks great! How long did it take to remodel?
It has been an amazing project to work onāI bought it this spring and have been working on it ever since. As with most remodels, one thing turns into another and itās always a bigger project than expected!Ā I replaced the carpet with white wood floors and painted all the cabinets, walls and ceilings white for an airy feel. And IĀ wallpaperedĀ for the first time! What an awesome way to add color and patternāIām hooked! I fell in love with theĀ Wandering Star pillowĀ and that became my inspiration for the colors of the camperās decorā¦ itās even her nickname!
What is your favorite new piece?
Thatās a hard one, but probably theĀ Terai chairs. Ā They pulled the whole look together and made the biggest impact. I love the black and white patterns and the texture in the wood legs. Plus, theyāre perfect for the camperāthey fold up and out of the way when traveling or not in use.Ā
What is your favorite āroomā or area in the camper?
Itās a toss up between the living/dining area and the back bedroom. The front is a versatile living space and conversation area that quickly becomes a dining area to eat or play games, then converts into a cozyĀ bedroomĀ space. The back bedroom is nice and private. It has more of a kid vibe, but can easily be an adult space as well. TheĀ beddingĀ was fun to coordinate and I love that the design of theĀ quiltĀ is reversible, so you can easily get another look for both beds or change it up on just one side.
We love how you made an outdoor space for the Airstream. Any other tips on making the outdoors feel like home when camping?
The Airstream is small, so utilizing outdoor space is key. I always set up a table right outside as our staging area: itās a great place to prep and serve meals. I travel with beautifulĀ table linensāitās amazing how they can make even your outdoor space feel homey and beautiful. And string lightsā¦ always string lights. They are functionalĀ andĀ create great ambiance.Ā
Our new House & Home lookbook is divided into three sectionsāthe Romantic, the Optimist and the Artist. Which most feels like you?
The Artist, for sure. I like collecting things and making them all work together in a space. New or old, itās nice to have a feeling that this is your collection and a reflection of who you are. Not to mention, I grew up in an artistic homeāmy parents are both artists and as kids we traveled the country with them doing art shows. Thatās certainly where I get my love for travel and art.
Is the Airstream staying put or hitting the road?
Oh yes, we areĀ certainly going to hit the road with it! My dream is to travel the country in it with the kids, maybe as soon as next summer. If you see me in your town, honk! Iād love to pull over and show you the inside!
