Did Cal know about Maven and Thomas? Like did he even knew that they were friends (there’s no way that he knew that they were more than friends)?

What’s yalls thoughts on what kind of job Thomas had? I’ve always seen him in a blue collar job, specifically a mechanic. I’ve seen many people on ao3 headcannon him as a medic, but why would they hire a 14 year old (or maybe younger we don’t know when he got the job) for that job. I mean yea Silvers def don’t give a shit about their soldiers health conditions, especially the veterans, but wouldn’t they wanna keep them fighting and that requires at least a functioning medical team (not the best, but people that know at least something). 🧐🧐

Was talking with @lucy-the-cat about the toxicity in the relationship between maven and Thomas and how codependent it probably was and I just HAVE to rant about it.

Cuz it was def a bit toxic, not as toxic as mareven is tho. Maven def has no sense of boundaries when it comes to relationships since he obviously lacks it with his own mother. He learned that love has no boundaries and that he’s entitled to everything, included time and boundaries, when it comes to his partner. So when it came to Thomas he def crossed many boundaries and was very dependent on Thomas emotionally (also physically). I could see Maven def pulling the “leave ur friends for me” card, slowly trying to take all of Thomas’s time and making it only for him. He def tried to always (and I mean always) be with him since he was his only source of happiness. He’s also the type of guy who gets jealous very easily and gets paranoid that other people want his partner, so he’s always on guard and always suspicious. The type of bf that goes suspiciously “who ur calling?” when u talk to someone.

It probably got a bit suffocating for Thomas, or maybe he liked it or maybe not, but he didn’t know how to stop maven. Thomas after dating maven def got really distant towards his friends (thanks to maven’s glorious work). I wonder how that codependency played when they were first friends, cause it def was present but after they got together it severely worsened.

So I am currently making this fic where Tom Sr. took care of Tom instead of leaving. In this case, Merope stopped giving Tom Sr the potion just after she gave birth. Same as is, she died after birth but this time, it was an untreated Dragon Pox. Tom Sr snapped back to reality and boom, he was stuck with a child, the unfortunate result of his trauma. The only reason why he didn’t give it up because it looked so much like him. He went to explain his situation with his family, thinking he was getting justice and support, but his parents kicked him out for the sake of the Riddle reputation and since Tom Sr’s reputation had already been damaged from a year of being influenced by Merope, he had no connections left to rely on. Now Tom Sr and Baby Tom lived in a small cottage. Tom Sr is working as a Mechanic to make a living for the baby while trying to be a father aswell but it’s a struggling battle for Tom Sr since this was a 🍇 baby. Tom jr will also be heavily affected by this, meaning his personality stays as is in the canon. [GENRE IS FOCUSED ON ANGST HEAVILYYY- Psychological Horror too-]

I fear Tom would be the same maybe a lil worse (or maybe a bit better). Cuz Tom sr prob would treat him like shit cause of his trauma and what Tom represents to him, the choice and life that was taken away from him

Actually crazy that we as a society don’t talk enough about how a murderer (who served time btw) killed her “friend’s” mom so that they could be together and later went on to be a very famous crime/detective author under another identity for a like a decade and only got exposed because Peter Jackson decided to make a film about her and her crime and the actress who played her was Kate Winslet (who happened to look identical to her btw). And after the film dropped there was a whole manhunt on who that girl was just for ppl to somehow connect the dots that it’s that one famous author.

And not to mention what she was offended by most was that the film portrayed her as a lesbian (there is NO WAY she wasn’t).

A hill I will forever die on is that maven never hated Cal and Elara was not able to fully take Maven’s love away from Cal.

Maven said that what truly took his bond away from Cal was mare not his mother. Sure his mother physically alternated his mind when it came to Cal and fed him wrong and toxic stuff about him, probably telling him that Cal stole all the things that should’ve rightfully been his, including his father’s love. I think deep down maven knew that this isn’t true. And that strong believe finally broke down the minute he saw Cal kissing Mare.

You see that situation wasn’t about Mare, but about Cal. In that moment, Cal proved to him what his mother always said and believed was true, that Cal will always steal everything from him. That Cal doesn’t care about him and would hurt him this way. Maven felt betrayed. He didn’t even fully believe in his own mother’s words, but believed that his brother would never. But now he understands that his mother was correct.

I feel that’s why Elara showed him that footage in the first place. She knew that her abilities weren’t fully taking away that love and so she later tried with basic manipulation, but that didn’t fully take that love away either. Elara probably feared that since maven, to a degree, felt love towards Cal, that he wouldn’t go with the plan because he doesn’t wanna hurt his brother.

After Maven saw that footage and realized that his mother was right and that he was “tricked” by Cal, he didn’t just wanna betray him, he wanted to hurt him just like Cal hurt and betrayed him. (The fact that Cal was the only alive person that hurted/made maven bleed as much as Thomas did says a lot).

But even after all that betrayal, Maven still didn’t fully hate cal. He felt hurt and betrayed by his brother and felt like a fool for believing in him and not in his own mother. But still, he still somehow felt love. And that’s shown in Broken Throne. Maven could’ve did something that forever wounded Cal, it would’ve been the ultimate revenge, better than stealing Mare and branding her; it was showing Cal that the brother he loved was somehow, somewhere, still in there, unwilling to come out. He would’ve gave Cal hope and consequently killing him would’ve been killing that hope and therefore killing the Maven Cal always knew, that would’ve completely destroyed Cal. But he didn’t do that, he didn’t want to hurt him that much for eternity…

Do you think Cal or Mare have ever smoked or done drugs

Done drugs is an absolute no because Mare is scared of losing control like that, especially after if she grew up seeing maybe some drug abuse in the stilts. She stays far away from that just because of some things she's seen in the streets.

Cal is a no because he sees no benefit in it. And with how many health classes I know that man took I can't imagine him being at all curious after learning about their harmful effects. Actually, I see it as a strong possibility that one of his main goals in being king was to have more anti-drug laws and regulations since I know laws like that could have been easily overlooked with the war and "red quantity over quality" system.

I headcanon that another aspiration of his was to improve family situations and childcare, child safety, and family planning in red areas since he noticed how little help they had with that. Maybe a system for saving children from drug abusing homes could be a part of it?

Smoking is a tougher one. I can't see a universe in which either of them are avid smokers or would go out of their way to smoke on any occasion. But would they have tried it before? I think Mare has and didn't like it. I think Cal is too cautious about his health. He already does dangerous stunts on his motorcycle and gets thrown off waterfalls. And lives with Mare. He can't risk any more possible harm to his body 😓

Also we know that his grandfather died of cancer. I don't believe it was specified what kind of cancer, but I know that no one in his family is messing around with that after his diagnosis. They are on TOP of their doctors appointments. Except maybe Tibe with his alcoholism, and he stopped caring like that....but everyone else with Calore blood takes extra care to keep up with their health.

That’s such an interesting ask cuz sadly there is a high correlation between poverty and substance abuse. Now imagine veterans in poverty. Many Reds (specifically old Reds) probably tried to shut down their pain and trauma and the fact that their children would get taken away from them by using alcohol and drugs. While others probably make and sell those drugs.

Mare grew up with a somehow better environment, her parents aren’t addicts and she doesn’t have that many friends, so not any personal exposure to addicts and alcoholics. But she def saw ppl passed out on streets from them.

I feel like she kinda would understand them, in a way of not agreeing but understanding why they’re doing this and coping. I also think she would have a special kind of hatred towards drugs and alcohol because she felt that it makes Reds give up and somehow accept that life will always be this way, so instead of resisting it they just find a way to cope. It’s like how she sees her hair, many reds cut their white ends while she leaves it as a reminder of the pain and stress and as a way of resilience.
