A grand feast in Erebor. Thorin is king. Bilbo left to fetch more drinks for the King and himself- he returns only to see his dwarf-king smiling and bantering warmly with an attractive dwarf-woman. Hurt and insecure, Bilbo confronts the situation, only to discover she’s Dís, Thorin’s sharp-witted sister and mother of Fíli and Kíli. The misunderstanding melts into warm introductions, sibling teasing, and Bilbo’s first meeting with a key part of Thorin’s family

And those pale, icy eyes that have zero warmth left. Just cold, calculating murder.

He is just a little tease...isn't he?

Thorin and Thranduil hate each other cuz they loved each other. they were secret lovers, until the dragon came and Thranduil betrayed "his heart"....

and Thorin became hard to trust again.....its easier to hate the entire elven race than admit he only hates his ex- Thranduil for that ...........now they only love throwing insults at each other....

Hard to trust until Bilbo came and prooved him wrong about himself, then he fell in love with Bilbo cuz he is his One (thats the big difference)...The realization hit like a warhammer.

It terrified him.

The guilt of dragging this gentle hobbit into a deadly quest — possibly to his death — became unbearable. So Thorin turned cruel. He became a complete asshole to Bilbo, pushing harder and harder, hoping the hobbit would finally give up and return to the safety of the Shire.

He’d rather Bilbo hate him. He’d rather destroy any chance of them ever being something more… than watch the person he truly loved die because of his own stubborn quest for gold and vengeance." He would rather have Bilbo hate him and lose his love, than lose Bilbo forever...

if Thorin lives, he eventually tells Bilbo.

But not easily. Not quickly. And definitely not without a lot of pain, denial, and self-loathing first.

Bilbo notices the “old married couple” energy between Thorin and Thranduil

The way they snipe at each other during council meetings — sharp, venomous, but strangely familiar, like two people who know exactly where to cut deepest — it’s ridiculous. Almost comedic.

An abstract take on the gold of Erebor.

A new work that forms an extension to my ‘Chaos, Emotions and Stoicism’ series "Beyond the Storm", which was exhibited on my graduation approximately six months ago.

I think Thorin has become a big part of my inner world and occupies a big place in my bran, as a character, an example, a philosophy, a virtue (big part of my professional research on chaos,stoicism and virtues as an artist)....maybe i shall add him in future works too.

This one is about Nostalgia (as emption), "Hiraeth" and "Saudade"....forms of nostalgia of which even Thorin was "victim". He dreamed of a home he never gets to live in again. And then he tried to make it his, it bites him back with dragonfire and a cursed gold....a dream of a home he had and it got him killed...The King still Dreams....he dreams....He dreams....an endless dream....and This is his dream....
