what drew you to shipping byler? when did you start?

yay! um so basically i stopped shipping mileven or stopped being as obsessed with it first, i wasn't immediately drawn to byler -- basically i stopped being as drawn to it really suddenly because i had figured out my own sexuality and i was embracing being queer and i just felt like the mileven community wasn't realllyyyy doing wonders for my mental health ahaha... so i sort of left. i was also lowk salty towards them and i decided to rewatch stranger things and keep an open mind to byler, but i wasn't really expecting to see anything.

but yeah holy shit yall!! when i actually had an open mind, i could see a lot of aspects of byler happening right in front of my eyes :p it was confusing at first, because i could still see a lot of mileven aspects and i didn't really understand or separate the concept of what is realistic and what isn't blah blah blah,,, but once i recognised that everything is written for a reason, everything is placed into a scene and edited that way for a reason, and once i gained more confidence in the creators themselves (realising they werent just some random money hungry netflix creators like cough cough the wednesday creators), i started to believe that byler was being set up.

so yeah it was sort of my own mind that drew me to byler, but what really cemented it was tumblr theories rather than twitter.... twitter bylers still pmo a little but thats just bc of the harassment i havent been harassed by a byler on here yet urm

what's your favorite or biggest byler proof? like - if you had to convince someone who's never seen the show about byler, what would you tell them?

if i had to show someone literally any byler proof i would show them the last about 5 minutes or so? of season 4 which obviously needs to foreshadow and pre-empt the next season. i would show them that the last heart-to-heart conversation between mike and anyone is literally will, despite the fact that they could have written it to be el instead since they had a monologue earlier that episode that should have solved everything. the lighting is of course, intentional, and that beautifulness of it cannot be ignored -- it's insane how pretty that scene is and how serene they look together its like....what is the point if thats just all in will's head? for me it just pre-empts what happens between them in the next season aka showing that they're a beacon of hope

and then i would show the ending part where mike and will have been chosen to stand next to each other while all the other pairings are couples but they're in the middle of this whole apocalyptic scene because them getting together is going to literally save the world from said apocalypse. the world's fate hinges on them.

Actually Bychance is a great concept that could totally work.

HELPPPP guys s5 is actually going to just be a romcom if you didn't know <3 will is going to be the nerd who was bullied by chance and then they date for some fucking reason and mike will be so super sad :( but then will's like oh wait! mike is true love again wow i was so silly! never mind chance u can be a pointless character who was just made for my character development what a great plot!

bychance? oh my lord. ship and let ship because you can do whatever you want but i kind of find it funny that it started out as a mileven attack and became something the bylers reclaimed thats kind of cute <3 i didnt really buy into it back when i was a mlvn, though i did believe that will was eventually going to be implied to have a happy ending with a guy.

now that i hear it's become a whole....byler theory somehow? i dont want to say something doesnt mean anything, because if we subscribe into that logic, then we could undermine everything that byler stands for, obviously (although, byler really isnt that subtle atp HAHAHA). but come on. i just looked at a couple posts on it, expecting to see some general shipping fanart and stuff, but i hear there's a whole theory behind it?

its fun to theorise, obviously, and no one should be embarrassed for that, but it's totally out of character for will. and not just in the sense that that's the whole point (bc characters are allowed to do ooc things before their character turning point), but in the sense that it just really is. it's like el suddenly going back to papa and going "never mind i want to go back to the lab!" because dating one of dustin's bullies? if he was just a jock thats fine, but dating one of his best friend's bullies while that bully bullies him for grieving someone extremely important to him that he WATCHED DIED- its sort of an unforgivable moment for will, even if he realised he was wrong and dated mike in the end.

will should be allowed to date before mike! but this is a tv show. not real life. and the writer have clearly set up certain events to go certain ways in s5. jealous mike is a fun concept, and probably canon lol- but season 5 is going to have none of that silly drama for the two of them. will is going to be fully focused on his connection to vecna and defeating vecna and probably trying to ignore his love for mike :(. the duffers themselves have said that episode 1 is the most action packed first episode they've ever had, and based on the teasers, i dont think will has time for a hot boy summer.
