Now is not the time to give up

The Olympics have only been going on for a few days now and I’ve already heard of so many athletes who are 30+.

If they can compete at the Olympic level at over 30 years old then you can keep dancing and competing for however long you want.

Age didn’t stop them from pursuing their dreams. Don’t let something trivial stop you from going after your goals.

A 24 year old snowboarder (Mark McMorris) just got a bronze medal yesterday after almost dying in an accident less than a year ago and taking months off to recover. And yesterday not only did he snowboard at the Olympics again, he kept his bronze medal placement from 2014.

You’re capable of more than you know and you will accomplish more than you ever thought you could if you don’t give up.

Don’t let your injuries tell you to retire. Take the time needed to recover, do the exercises and physio to recuperate and come back when your body is ready.

Going off to college? That doesn’t mean you’ll never dance again. You can dance through or come back to it after you graduate. There is no deadline, dance for as long as you can.

Just started working full time? Take time to adjust to that schedule and then come back when you’re ready.

Don’t let life stop you from going after your passion. Yes, it might be harder now than in high school. Yes, it will take sacrifice. But you get to decide what you’re going to do with your life. Don’t give circumstances the power to tell you what to do.

Pursue your dreams! Chase them! Live them out.

I’m so sad that the Irish dance community has basically evaporated on tumblr. It used to be so motivating and amazing to be able to talk to so many different dancers all at different levels and from different backgrounds. Please tell me it’s not dead 😫

What I mean: Jean Butler and Michael Flatley choreographed the original Riverdance TOGETHER and she did just as much dancing as him and even arguably more since she started in soft shoe and had to change into hard shoe while he was busy flapping his arms about like a hyperactive bird when they're on stage together they're dancing in unison or in some cases call and response where she does what he does backwards with an added TOE STAND (which in Irish dance I'm fairly certain has no support in the shoes because fuck it we damage our feet like CELTS) AND YET THE DAMN THING HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN THROUGH THE CULTURE AS MICHAEL FLATLEY'S RIVERDANCE FEATURING JEAN BUTLER WHEN PEOPLE REMEMBER HER AT ALL

congrats on second! btw i saw you walking around the venue on your dance day, you looked gorgeous but i saw a beer in your hand which concerned me a bit. i have no problem at all w drinking lol but with so many kids around and you looking young as well as being a member of the same, more young person oriented sport as them, i'm not sure it's the best example or really the right thing to do. not judging at all and i understand it's a party city i was just wondering ur rationale behind doing that

wait is this actually a joke…. i’m 25 years old first of all. i’m of age and have every right to make my own decisions.it’s new orleans and i haven’t had an alcoholic drink in months in preparation for this major competition. they literally sell alcohol IN THE VENUE OUTSIDE THE BALLROOMS. there are parents and about 99% of the senior ladies all had a drink in their hand right after their set.. also including some teachers who literally started drinking at 8am. lol i’m old enough and responsible enough to have a drink after i dance and i don’t think any consumption of alcohol in moderation is setting a bad example whatsoever. at the end of the day, i am a NORMAL person who lives a NORMAL life and i’m not going to change the way i act to exist in the irish dance world whatsoever because at the end of the day this is a hobby that essentially means nothing in the grand scheme of things and if everyone thinks i’m a bad role model or dislikes me for how i am than whatever. i’ll still sleep at night haha this is actually so ridiculous i can’t deal with this website anymore lmaooooooo
