75% Of Ikea’s Catalog Is Computer Generated Imagery
I read this article from Fast Co. over the Labor Day holiday and thought it was interesting to hear how much of Ikea's catalog is computer generated.
Made sense when Mark Wilson wrote
The CG artists learned studio photography, and the photographers on staff learned 3-D rendering software. A sensitivity to real-world conditions grounds what could be cold, lifeless computer-based imagery.
The crispness of the photos and the attention to detail is amazing. I wonder what the ROI is on using CG photography instead of standard photography techniques? - AK

HOW JENNA LYONS TRANSFORMED J.CREW INTO A CULT BRAND
Jenna Lyons is in her corner office sucking on an iced coffee as if it were manna. The room looks like a cross between a boudoir and an artist's loft, with a peach fur draped over a white leather eames chair. The industrial windows stretch up and up, like Lyons's legs, which are punctuated by a pair of metallic, sparkled 3-inch stilettos. But the coffee just isn't cutting it. "I'm so hungry. I haven't eaten in 10 days," says the executive creative director and president ofJ.Crew, not hyperbolically. "I was like, errrr! errrr! with every pair of pants," she adds, making that grunting sound familiar to all women at some point in their lives. Turns out even the most fashionable manager in America can have a bad clothing day. "The inside button would pop before I even zipped it. I was like, Oh, God!" So Lyons went on an organic-juice-cleanse-plus-Isogenics bender and has consumed nothing but liquids for more than a week. "I'm a little bit mangry. Hangry mangry," she confesses, within five minutes of my arrival.

Can't wait to see the Wombats on November 1st
The Wombats are an indie band from Liverpool, UK. They comprise two native Liverpudlians; Matthew Murphy, provider of vocals, guitar and keyboards, drummer/vocalist (also plays synthesizer and flute, banjo and commonly whistles) Dan Haggis and bass player/vocalist (plays guitar with Matthew on acoustic versions) Tord Øverland-Knudsen, a Norwegian who has made his home in the city.
All five of these habits are easy to pick up but will squeeze out every bit of your effectiveness.

REVERSE / A SPACE ODYSSEY 2011
by Helmut Kool.
“The movie “Reverse“ has been exclusively produced by means of analogue techniques. Hence, all object movements are based on physical forces within their real environment. Purpose of this cinematic experiment is to circumscribe 3D simulation, thus showing which possibilities we as designers can find in reality. Contemporaneously, the movie is oriented towards digital simulations by adopting their specific look, thereby creating an atmosphere which, at a first glance, does not allow for a distinction whether the images are of digital or analogue nature. Since the movie reverses the typical approach of most 3D simulated movies, in particular to purport reality, it is named “Reverse”. Its additional subtitle “a space odyssey 2011” refers to the shown journey through theories of time and space.”
