First what and interesting name. Not many VHS around these days. I’ve got an old copy of some American western in my trunk that’s a VHS.

Describe me as an animal…well the irony there is laughable. I think some sort of dog. Mastiff of some sort. What about you?

Sleep under the stars. I feel like I do that often as is. If you get out in the country the stars are almost too bright. That’s enough to choose that over and over again.

You here for dating or just connections? Neither answer is right or wring around here. Just curious - I’m teetering between the two myself.

Thank you! I worry it shows my age a bit but oh well haha.

I am curious about why there’s irony there but I won’t pry as it may expose you more than you’d like right off the bat. I like that answer, though. I would see myself as something like a bat or a songbird depending on which aspect of myself we want to focus on.

Sleeping under the stars is lovely and is something I’ve done quite a few times in my life. I love when the sky is alight with them. I feel we’re lucky enough to be far enough from larger cities that there’s not too much light pollution around here.

I’m here for either, really. I would love to find a relationship, but if I just make a few new connections I’d be happy with that as well. What about you?”

That's a level headed answer, though it's made me curious as to whether you believe in the theory of soulmates?

Your next statement has left me a tad perplexed, admittedly. You like it Swynlake, and yet you think that's not ample enough means to continue living here? Is there some sort of outside pressure pushing you to leave, but the excuse of your job is able to tether you here? Or do you see yourself moving elsewhere without social ties to the town?

I am looking for answers. Namely as to whether or not this sort of mass experiment works. It's only a short stones throw from Love is Blind, and that show has yielded varying results. None of which have convinced me that love is 'blind.'

Dear globalcasebook,

I think there's the romantic side of me that does want to believe in soulmates, but there's a cynical side that doesn't think that could be possible. Then again, stranger things than soulmates have definitely existed.

There are other places I feel quite tied to as well, and I've seen my fair share of people come and go from Swynlake that its made me long for the places and people I miss. Any outside pressures are put on by my own expectations of myself. I also wouldn't go to an unknown area, I would probably return to a place that's familiar and has familiar people in it. Sometimes I feel as though I've abandoned people that needed me for rather selfish and pointless reasons, but I know that that isn't the case.

I've just been unsure of what path I should take for a while now, and maybe if I was able to find someone that path would become more clear.

I think the main difference between this and Love is Blind is that those are reality TV stars who are in fact being seen by a camera. They're putting on a show and trying to become memorable in a way to an audience. We're just trying to be ourselves and get to connect with people in our community on a deeper level, in the eyes of no one but our matches.

I do like to think love can be blind. While everyone having one specific soulmate might not be a true theory, I do believe peoples souls can feel connected once they meet, and that bond can transcend physical appearances.

Or maybe that's just me being a romantic again.

So you're just here for the experiment of it all? You're not hoping you could find love through this?

Dear ThreadbareVHS,

VHS and 8tracks are probably the trickiest since those technologies for playing them are the most out of fashion. But its been interesting watching the way vinyls have come back into fashion.

Star Trek and Sound of Music makes for an interesting spectrum, although I suppose both of them are about people learning tolerance and helping people heal in different ways. There are a lot worse answers you can give there.

My family were big into documentaries, although I went through a superhero phase when I was young. I can't count the number of times I watched the old Superman movies.

It's true. Which is quite sad, when you think about it. For all that physical media to just end up unusable. For art of any kind to become obsolete is quite a bleak thing.

That's a really nice way of looking at it haha. One was definitely my sibling's preference and the other was mine, though we did both watch them together.

Documentaries can be really good and educational. Did you have a favorite topic?

I think everyone goes through at least a mild superhero phase in their lives. Its inspiring to see good triumphing over evil while never stooping to the villains levels. It's sad that people grow up and forget those morals sometimes.

I feel as though I've been a little depressing in this reply and I apologize for that. You've brought up a lot of good points and have really made me think, which I admire greatly. I just apologize that my responses turned so dour.

Dear @threadbare-vhs,

To be honest, this is my first time doing something like this too. I will forgive your hiccups if you forgive my stumbles.

I could make a joke about being presumptuous, saying that we could go back to our of our places, but you said "perhaps" so I can't make too much fun. I enjoy live performance as well. Growing up, there were a lot of opportunities to see live performances, which I miss now that I'm busier than I was as a child.

I think my ideal first date would actually be a late lunch or early dinner. It's too cold for it now, but I really like sitting out on a lawn with tea and biscuits and fresh fruit. I think it's because I feel more alive in the daylight. I think doing that and getting to know each other would be my ideal first date.

Yours could be a close second!

I've heard that physical media is coming back! People are starting to build up collections of anything from VHS tapes to cds to vinyls to 8tracks.

We didn't watch a ton of movies in my home growing up but ones that definitely got worn down were the Star Trek ones we had, though that was just a few episodes that had been taped. I also remember watching the Sound of Music a lot (the first tape more than the second, to be honest.)

I have to admit I've never done something like this before, so I hope you'll forgive me for any hiccups along the way.

Since its there, I will probably start with the prompt. My ideal date is probably going out for a meal or drinks someplace like the Court of Miracles. Somewhere with a live performance; I always think one of those is far more exhilarating than places without. Then perhaps we could go back to one of our places, put on a movie or some music, and then just get to know a bit more about each other.
