Illustrations for a Russian edition of Wuthering Heights (Грозовой перевал) by Elizaveta Tretyakova
Some other images I found from the book - they aren’t great quality so didn’t want to post in the set but I figured some of you might want to see them all. Sorry, they might not be in order.
i fuck with this heavily
Scenery in Prey
Mentally combining the "bees are unionized and will leave if they don't like their working conditions" post with the various "humans stow away on alien spaceships and do the jobs that are too dangerous for more fragile species" posts
Interstellar guidelines state that while approaching humans carelessly or aggressively can result in serious injury, and while you absolutely should not try to trap a swarm of humans on your ship, if you build a human-friendly habitat with enough food within grazing distance and safe places to sleep, you just might entice a colony to move in
Trapping a swarm of humans on your ship:
unauthorized tunnels keep popping up in restricted zones
theft of various items they consider cozy, delicious, cute, or extremely hazardous
equipment sabotaged in supposedly impossible ways, and/or supposedly explosion-proofed material exploding
received communications vary from heartfelt pleas for freedom to vengeful declarations of war to treatises on the sacred rights of spaceship-occupants to disturbingly specific threats to incomprehensible slam poetry
Encouraging a volunteer human colony to thrive:
leaving items they like + building materials in areas they can access, then coming back later to find those areas transformed into fully organized warehouses/gardens/workshops
items left lying around spontaneously being made cuter, cozier, tastier, and/or more hazardous
new workarounds, temp fixes, or repurposes being tried out on any equipment that's on the fritz (and some that's not)
disturbingly creative and fervent allies against outside forces
sound of happy poetry coming from the vents

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Warning that humans are a symbiotic species, strongly prone to all three types of symbiosis: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. To encourage a mutualistic symbiosis, follow recommended guidelines for available space, accessible materials, and living conditions.
Humans will not restrict their symbiotic relationships to the dominant sentient species on a starship. It is highly recommended that, if you have discovered a nesting colony of humans on your ship or starbase, you provide them with the recommended resources. Otherwise, they may wind up in a symbiotic relationship with various predator species. Or your AI bots. Or carnivorous fungi.
Don't ask. Just make sure they've got the kind of supplies that will let them be comfortable.
Yes finally HASO post on my dash.
I see humans as crows in this situation, give them food and gifts and they will protect you and your ship for generations.
best thing tumblr ever did for me is the term "rotating it in my mind". it's really true that sometimes you think about something real hard but you can't tell what the thoughts are exactly. it's revolutionary stuff, i might even say
sometimes the subject of your thoughts is just in this thing
Ah, there it is!

Still collecting the full alphabet of the “live, laugh, love” variants if anyone has some good examples.
Bonus if they can fit the “We can’t ___, _____, ____ our way out of this.”
compilation of the comments’ best hits + some of mine own.
contrary to popular belief, goncharov is a completely real movie! it’s just that the special camera and tape they filmed it on make it oddly imperceptible to the human eye. the unique wavelengths of light are only visible to a select number of individuals with a rare genetic disease known as alexandria’s genesis
cranky because you don’t have purple eyes huh
So many little ways that hatred of some underclass — immigrants, the homeless, the young — requires making things worse for everyone so those in the under class don't get anything nice either. Whole smorgasbord of shooting yourself in the foot out of spite
have to keep ourselves poorer just to keep brown people out. can't have public bathrooms because the homeless might use them. have to play high-pitched noise to keep teens away. we are letting the cruelest people among us make our lives worse so they can be hateful
Do you think anorexia/bulimia would exist if the world wasn't fatphobic? I've been wondering that
I think that restrictive/self-starving/bingeing/purging would still exist, though our frameworks for what these behaviors mean, and how to deal with them, would have to change drastically. it would require the shifting of focus away from weight exclusively (and also shift the focus from the archetypal thin, white, teenage girl - this archetype is also the product of systemic fatphobia + misogyny + white supremacy) and toward a more holistic understanding of why people cope with emotional distress the way they do.
food consumption & digestion are vital bodily functions, and for as long as they are, people will have 'disorderly' relationships to them. but the weight-centric approach to disorderly eating both in diagnostic gatekeeping & in 'treatment' would need to shift, especially given that a less fatphobic world would lead to fat peoples' concerns about their health, including restriction/ b/p, being taken with the seriousness they deserve.
Appreciate the perspective that restrictive eating and binge/purging would still be behvaiours people engage in without systemic fatphobia. I feel that bingeing / purging often isn't afforded the same depth that restriction is in the way that it is seen mainly as a reaction to restriction, whereas 'to feel in control' is a frequently given reason for restriction.
In a world where thinness / eating less isn't what is seen as 'being in control', the reasons ascribed to various disorderly eating behaviours would also be different.
Bingeing can be as much a way to feel in control that restricting is, just that in a world where it is seen as a loss of control, because of fatphobia, it is considered a lesser/shameful coping mechanism.
People binge and/or purge for as varied a number of reasons as people restrict, use drugs, self-harm, etc., and in our current world this gets glossed over.
And to add on, chronic illness affects people's relationship with food. In the medical industrial complex, it seems that any health issues in people with a history of disorderly eating is considered to be due to that (and as a result, not taken seriously). When in reality, there is a complex bi-directional relationshio between GI symptoms and disorderly eating. Sometimes bingeing can be a way of asserting agency over symptoms someone has no control over, and until we deconstruct fatphobic beliefs, this will not be given the legitimacy that restricting as control is.
oh i didn't see this response but it's great and i agree on all counts, particularly the lack of emotional and intellectual depth ascribed to b/p vs. restriction. there's a conception that anorexia's "superiority" is located in its like, ascendance beyond the body (racialized, feminized, 'primitive') and into the life of the transcendent mind (masculine, white, enlightened). you see this in early documentation of starving saints and rhetoric around the archetypal anorexic (that is, the one most likely to receive a diagnosis): thin, white, cisgender girls, typically high-achieving and perceived as intelligent/skilled in their sport.
particularly with b/p, i think anxieties around the "dirtiness" and "messiness" of disabling health problems come in here, too –– there is plenty of stigma against people who can't control their bowels/vomiting across chronic illness diagnoses, regardless of whether it's self-induced. again, it comes back to a disdain for the body, bodily functions, bodily weakness and *especially* porousness. the anorexic construction of a kind of numbing shield around the body, at least in my personal experience, is an attempt (unsuccessful, but still) to nullify that vulnerability.
that's what makes (restrictive) anorexia so culturally desirable *and* so frightening to the general public - it's the apotheosis of collective desires for thinness, achievement, hardness, numbness, accomplished by a group of people systemically denied autonomy in all other areas of their lives. the medical industry et al. does not appreciate seeing their anti-fat, eugenicist demands taken to their logical conclusion, and they especially don't like to see that conclusion made by young, feminized people.
i think there is something to be said for the position of fat anorexics (regardless of their individual relationships to restriction/bp) in light of the above. i don't think i'm the one to say it. while i started starving myself while still a fat child, i have not been considered fat by anyone but myself in well over a decade. but i'd be interested to hear what others think (and always am).
fuck it my unsolicited thoughts on the cat/ned/jaime/cersei non-canon couplings: could they fix each other?
ned x jaime: yes. ned would give jaime a honour boner so massive he would be compelled to become an actual human being (similar to what happened after brienne beat the shit out of him in asos). idk what ned would get from the exchange but I don't think jaime could make him worse. the problem is they are both bottoms so idk how the relationship would actually work 🤷♀️
jaime x cat: kinda. cat would use jaime as her personal attack dog but she would also keep him on a tight leash so no more pushing kids out the window (unless they deserve it). cat tops.
cat x cersei: NO. THE most toxic, dangerous, sexy yuri in all of westeros. they would make each other SO MUCH WORSE. cersei would validate every single violent impulse catelyn has ever had and in turn cat would make cersei actually competent (really dangerous!). if those 2 were ever on the same side of a conflict there would be no stopping them. unless cersei got on her nerves and cat had to kill her after 2 weeks idk. they both fight for dominance but cat tops.
cersei x ned just ends with ned having to behead cersei with ice after she smothered baby jon in the crib and tried to pin it on maester luwin. cersei tops.

Isn’t it kind of fun how when your life sucks you just can’t talk about it with anyone
I’m serious though. When your life reaches a degree of suckage, you find yourself having to look elsewhere for anything at all to talk about. The things going on in your life are trauma dumping. Your past is probably also trauma dumping. So you have to get really weird about specific things or hope that others want to talk to you, because very quickly people are going to develop an aversion to you and the way your life sucks. Unless you just don’t talk about it
It’s socially isolating, which is dangerous—when you’re in this sort of situation, community is the difference between life and death, housing and homelessness.
I think the collective prioritization of comfort first is hurting people in a real and material sense
