Autumn Series #2 - Tartan
Tartan print is back, but not in its traditional Highland way. This fall be prepared to explore a modernised version of the classic pattern with the release of unconventional, abstract and grunge inspired colours and sizes. Masculine lines and tailored fits are the style agenda of the season with designers creating boyish combinations for the runway. This means endless fun coming up with both polished and bold looks to suit your own style. In the second series of my Autumn themed blog I want to generate my own individual signature by mixing current trends with my own little additions. I love the warm, homely affiliations that the more traditional tartan patterns bring out, so you'll see that I prefer adding smaller tartan details to much softer outfits like the portrait below.
wachabuy.com
1. Tailoring
For the daring of us, this fitted, masculine two piece suit fully printed in Prince of Wales ticks all the boxes for this seasons trends. This is perfect for an after work date with its sharp, edgy and fearless aura bound to get you a second date. The added leather vest finishes the look with that grungy touch that everyone is after this season.
thebestfashionblog.com
For a more toned down, yet striking look, go for some ankle length, bold printed trousers and match this up with solid coloured top or jumper. For a date night, black peep toe platforms are imperative. But for a more casual. practical outfit this will look equally good paired with some simple, sparkly pumps.
bloglovin.com
2. Retro Revival
We are seeing designers look back for retro inspired combinations like the one below. This consists of pairing slim-fit, cigarette trousers together with cosy knit tops and shortened cardigans. Neutral colours and thick textures will work best to keep the tone sophisticated and expensive.
thebestfashionblog.com
3. Grungy Layering a tartan shirt under heavy layers or even knotting a tartan shirt around the waist will give you that signature grunge touch. Go for oversized eyeliner and tousled, loose hair to finish and if you really want to stand out a pair of ray-bans will do the job.
bloglovin.com
Give a tartan dress a grungy, rebellious edge by pairing with Dr Marten's or some thickset motorcycle boots. If going for the latter option, sheer tights, as shown below, will elongate your legs and add some contrast.
primarkonlinestore.com
4. Vibrant skirts The key is to contrast a busy, patchwork skirt with a matching plain top. Go for a colour which is featured on the skirt to please the eye. Extra details like zips or asymmetric hems will also make all the difference in stamping your outfit with your own unique style.
marionwd.tumbr.com
theyallhateus.com
5. The Classic Scarf When the colder months hit, my go to piece has to be my thick, tartan scarf that I got from Zara a few years ago. It just looks super cosy and inviting and I can bury myself in it to keep myself warm. They are a timeless classic so shops will definitely stock them each year. Search for a thicker, softer, woolen scarf of a better quality, it'll definitely be worth the extra money.

Trio of Fish Cakes Recipe! - Sophie
Trio of Fish Cakes
Now one thing I love are batch recipes which mean I can cook once and be fed for the rest of the month! And of course they also have to be tasty and simple to whip up. Fortunately my trio of fish cake recipe hits all three criteria for me!
You can safely freeze these fish cakes for up to two months, and it’s a simple 15 minute bake at 220C or 2 minutes in the microwave once defrosted.
These fishcakes can also be eaten cold with a salad for an easy work lunch.
Recipe makes 7 decent sized fish cakes
Ingredients:
· 250g Charlotte Potatoes, cut into chunks
· 350g Fish Pie Mix (Salmon, White Fish, Smoked White Fish
· 1 tsp English Mustard Powder
· 1 tsp Yuzu Sauce
· 1 heaped tbsp Chopped Parsley
· 1 heaped tbsp Chopped Dill
· 3 tbsp Plain Flour
· 2 Eggs, beaten
· 100g Panko (breadcrumbs
· 2 tbsp Soy Margarine
· Pepper and Salt to taste
· 4 tbsps of Vegetable Oil
Tools:
Mixing Bowl
Saucepan
Sharp Knife
Cutting Board
Shallow Dishes/Tupperware
Frying Pan
Prep Time:
35 mins
Cooking Time:
10 mins (depends on quantity of fish cakes and size of pan)
1. Skin and cut the Charlotte potatoes into small chunks, then boil in salted water for 10-12 minutes.
2. While the potatoes are boiling lightly season the fish pie mix and bake in the oven for 6 minutes until flakey.
3. Drain the potatoes and then add the mustard powder, yuzu sauce, chopped parsley and dill. Mash! Add the pepper and salt and mix.
4. Flake the fish pie mix into the potato mixture, add the soy margarine and thoroughly stir until evenly spread.
5. Wait 10-15 minutes for the mix to cool down. While waiting put the flour, eggs and breadcrumbs into three shallow dishes. I like to use Tupperware boxes for this.
6. Shape the fish cake mixture into suitable portion sizes. Dip this into first the flour, covering the entire cake. Then the egg. And finally the breadcrumbs.
7. Heat the oil in a large pan. Fry the cakes in the oil for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden.
I like my fish cakes large!
8. Voila easy fish cakes!
Meal Suggestions:
With some simple greens, in the above I had grilled asparagus and guacamole.
Traditional with chips!
On top of wilted spinach as a healthy lunch.
Winter style with roasted vegetables.
Simple salad
Wrap in cling film for the freezer to save space
Autumn Series #1 - Cosy Knits
There's something so grand about Autumn - the golden, auburn, copper leaves which litter the floor, the crunch of gravel as we tread the Earth in our burly boots, the crisp, sharp air kissing our cheeks with colour as we snuggle up in our cosy, snug Autumn garments. Yep, this has to be my favourite season. I mean who can complain about no longer needing an excuse to lounge around in baggy, oversized sweaters, thick, woolly leggings and luxurious, cashmere scarves whilst still looking effortlessly fab!? There's no doubt that knitted sweaters are the central piece of any autumn outfit. This year the style is all about the minimalistic, dainty look. This means neutral tones, pastels, classic shapes and subtle patterns which I am very pleased about. You can't get more elegance and finesse then this! So let's kick start the Autumn series with a whole blog on...you've guessed it...sweaters and how to wear them!
bloglovin.com
1. The turtleneck. You can't do a sweater blog without mentioning the infamous turtleneck. This classic, timeless piece has become one of my favourite go to pieces for those lazy days. I think the best way to wear them is loose and paired with skinny jeans and pumps. To get that sophisticated edge, its all about the messy, scraped up hair, buns or simply tucking your hair partly into the jumper itself.
whowhatwear.com
blog.madewell.com
2. The dainty details are the key to making your outfit go from high street to runway.
See how by rolling up her sleeves, this plain outfit is instantly transformed into something much more chic and edgy.
fashiontag.com
The half tuck gives waist definition and is just that much more classy. If you're wearing trousers, a skinny belt is key for that extra colour and lift.
thefashiontag.com
mango.com
3. The collar, whether it be a case of wearing a shirt underneath or necklace, is right on trend. This year collars are back in fashion with anything from sharp, minimalistic collars to rounded, embellished collars being sighted.
shop-hers.com
4. Sweater and skirt. For the perfect autumn date outfit, wear a cable knit on top of a delicate dress or skirt and wrap a matching belt over the top. Alternatively, you can achieve a similar look with a cardigan. Make sure you accessorise with plenty of cute bracelets.
cuphalffull-sf.blogspot.com
thissillygirlslife.com
5. Scarves, boots and socks... again it's all about the detail. I think having both black and brown ankle boots is a must because they are so versatile. Stock up on leggings, woolly tights and range of long, thick socks to go with them for that forever in fashion college look.

On a final point, I thought I would share a few sweaters which have caught my eye on the high street.

[Birchbox] September 2015 Edition!
So I finally caved into subscription boxes – I got 50% off the full price of a Birchbox due to it being Birchbox’s 5th anniversary and it also fell into my birthday month so it was a little treat to myself. Unfortunately, it was so popular this month that I missed the cooler Birchbox designs.
Happy belated birthday Birchbox!
I’m reviewing the items in the order of my favourite first:
Colour test - add some pink blusher to complete the look!
1. Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Pencil (a Birchbox exclusive!)
#Humble Brag
Birchbox bio:
There’s nothing we love more than a product that muli-tasks and this blush pink crayon does it beautifully! Easy to apply and ultra-pigmented, it’s the easiest way to add a pop of colour to lips and cheeks
My review
I’m very happy about this product! 1 – because I love lipsticks and 2 – the colour is a perfect shade of pink and 3 – it saved me some money as I was just about to buy a Clinique chubby stick in the same shade. I can confirm it is ultra-pigmented – the coverage is amazing with this brand.
2. Benefit the POREfessional: license to blot
Birchbox bio:
The latest warrior in the battle against shiny T-zones, this unique oil-blotting stick using tiny blotting spheres to mattify shine for up to 6 hours
Apply straight from the tube onto the skin, using a blotting motion, on the nose, forehead and chin
My review
I already had this as a birthday gift from the lovely Sophie but I heard great things about this product so the more the merrier! I apply using short swift strokes across my face, on top of make-up (you can apply before make up too) and I can see the shine reduce instantly. It does a very good job of absorbing the oil on my face If only I had this stick before my work photo, I wouldn’t have such an oily and shiny face on my new work pass.
Target areas is definitely the T-zone and chin.
3. The Birchbrush (a Birchbox exclusive!)
Birchbox bio:
Work out knots, tame tresses and smooth your hair’s surface with this super-cute, and oh so effective brush
My review
I loved that I got an actual item alongside the make-up and skincare samples. I love tangle teasers as they really work on my thick bushy hair. It also helps that my current tangle teaser was getting very hairy so thank you Birchbox!
4. Beauty Protector Beauty Wash (a Birchbox exclusive!)
Birchbox bio:
We wouldn’t expect anything less than a sumptuous fragrance from this exclusive to Birchbox brand, but the rich foaming texture of this in shower body wash is something to love to
My review
In general, I’m not keen on getting body wash as a sample as it gives me a very hotel like feeling – nothing special. However, it was nice sample in my first Birchbox and I love the smell (very perfume-y) that lingers on after the shower and it does last awhile. The boyfriend can also notice the difference! Although, it didn’t really notice the ‘rich foaming texture’ when using it.
5. Bliss foot patrol – AHA exfoliating and softening cream
#aloe leaf & peppermint
Birchbox bio:
No description given in regards to the foot patrol product
My review
My dad has this problem of having really dry scaly heels and I pretty much inherited it from him so this product was rather useful – that’s if I remember to use it. I’m already applying moisturiser onto my legs so I don’t really remember about the foot or would be too lazy to switch products, so this product isn’t very useful to me. On the plus side – for the week that I did stick to it as part of my routine, I saw results after day one, it was able to mosturise and heal my crackly heels. I also love the refreshing smell of aloe and peppermint.
6. John Masters Organics Citrus Neroli Detangler
BIrchbox bio:
Wave goodbye to knots and tangles with this little miracle worker! Coconut oil and wheat amino acids help to nourish strands while neroli and grapefruit soothe troublesome scalps
Apply to wet, clean hair and leave for 1 – 3 minutes either rinse away or use as a leave in treatment
My review
My hair is at the stage where it could do with a trim so I see this a short term fix for me. It smells like lemon tart and I think Birchbox did a clever combo, offering it with the tangle teaser however I’ve been using it for about a week now and I don’t see any improvements. I also don’t like the feeling of my hair after leaving it in as treatment.
Overall, I’ve very impressed by the content of BIrchbox – I love the majority of items, the cute drawstring bag the items come in and the box, it’s also very nice that Birchbox provides a little pamphlet about all the products included – I’d like to have something to read. Especially since I was about to spend £17 on a lipstick which Birchbox was able to provide me in this shade but for less, among with other goodies!
So I’ve just signed up to a three month subscription! I’m looking forward to the next one as we get to choose the back to basics box or the stylist box.
My only concern is that I still have a haul of Koreans items I still need to go through and really can’t be dealing with more items every month
Stay tuned for the October review!
Love, Linh xxx
Halloween 2015 - Sophie's Make Up
Halloween 2015 – Woodland Fairy
The nights are growing darker, the air is colder and the pumpkin spice lattes are out. That can only mean one thing…. Autumn is upon us and Halloween is here!
Halloween is the time of year when you can get creative with your make up and experiment with all the colours you’d never normally use.
This year I’ve gone with a woodland fairy, and used a mixture of Asian and Western beauty brands to fulfil the fantasy theme.
This entire look took me 50 minutes in total to complete! Below is how I achieved it.
Tools of Choice
Etude House Face Conditioning Cream Light
theSAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer
Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion
InnisFree No Sebum Mineral Powder
Shu Uemura Hard Formula Eyebrow Pencil
La Rose de Versailles Eyeliner in Black
Naked 2 Urban Decay
The Face Shop Eyelash Curler
Manna Conditioning Lash Primer
Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara
Etude House Play 101 Pencil 36
Etude House Play 101 Pencil 38
Etude House Play 101 Pencil 43
Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliner Rose Quartz
Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliner 06
Secret Kiss Holic Pigment
TonyMoly Cat Chu Wink Lip Tint
Maybelline Super Stay DualEnded Lip Colour
The Base
The Illusion Tools
My Art Tools
Basic Eye Tools
For the glitter pizzazz and lips
First things first, you want a clean base to work on so cleanse your face and ensure there is as little grime and dust
Moisturise! Prepping the skin for what lies ahead is important for the health of your skin and ensuring your make up stays on as long as possible
I then used the face conditioning cream from Etude House which acts as a primer and also brightens the complexion. This also balances the colours of your complexion
Next step is concealer! Blending in the edges to make it look as natural as possible
Cushion time. Apply the cream all over the face and blend for even coverage
I then use InnisFree no sebum powder to set the foundation and mattify. I love this powder, it really helps keep the oily look at bay
Ears to protect the hair!
Now that the base is prepped its onto the fun part! I used the foxy and half baked shades in my Naked 2 palette for a neutral look and to add some shimmer to the eyes
La Rose de Versailles is my holy grail liquid eyeliner. This lasts my 12 hour work shift and does not budge. In this case I used it to tight line along my lash line for a thicker look without being over the top
Curling the lashes with my Face Shop eyelash curler then priming with Manna conditioning lash primer is my next step. I find by priming with a conditioner my eyelashes stay curled for longer and the mascara does not smudge as much. I then apply my Bobbi Brown Smokey eyes
I fill out my brows with Shu Uemura, I prefer a thicker eyebrow look and this fits into the natural woodland fairy look I had in mind
Using both my Holika Holika and Etude House pink eyeliners I line my bottom eyelid to give the illusion of bigger eyes and on the inner corner of my eyes
This is where it gets creative! I use Etude House Play Hard 38, which is an olive colour, to line my eyes and start the swirls
I highlight with Etude House Play Hard 36 for a pop of colour!
I use the secret key gold glitter on my left eye for a subtler effect, swirls on both sides would have been too heavy for what I had in mind. I used a cotton bud to apply the glitter onto my face. I also use this on the swirls to add emphasis
As the eyes are the focus of this make up I go for a darker lip. I use the Tony Moly lip tint first and then as my second layer apply Maybelline Super Stay DualEnded Lip Colour.
Fairy Halloween make up complete!
What are you going to be?

EOpenMarket - Lucky Box AKA Sample Heaven
EOpenMarket – Lucky Box!
One of my favourite things to do is to try new things. Whether it be the latest new staple ingredient, or some cute new hand cream I am addicted. Luckily for my wallet Asian Beauty brands are fantastic at providing samples of their products. And these are also great for overnight stays or trying to meet the stringent air codes. Now one of the more difficult life decisions to make is what to invest in. And more importantly what skin care to invest in :P You can spend weeks on the internet reading all the reviews and still be none the wiser. And then I stumbled upon EOpenMarket and their Lucky Box. It promised more than 30 samples for $8.80. It was combining my love of surprise with my love of new things, I knew I had to get it!
So below is a peek of one of the two Lucky Boxes I received.
(Yes two, I couldn’t resist).
All the Samples
Buying Process
You can purchase your own lucky box here: EOpenMarket
I bought these on the 26th September, they shipped on the 30th September and they arrived on the 13thof October. I used the cheapest shipping that there was available, so was pretty pleased that they arrived in 3 weeks.

The second package contained almost the exact same samples, just in different quantities. I have ordered this box in the past though and received a completely different set.
July Order:
Altogether I love the EOpenMarket Lucky Box. I think there is real value in the number of samples they send, the variety of brands and I just love being surprised J

[MINI REVIEWS] Nature Republic Eyeliner, Mizon Perfume Mist & SkinFood Lip Balm
Dear all! My deepest apologies for not blogging in a very long time – in the meantime I’ve jetted off to both Austria and Denmark, and been slightly distracted by my adult colouring book, colouring pencils and paints. Clap clap to Sophie whose really carried the team and kept this blog going – LOVE YOU SOPHIE <3
Anyway to make up for my AFK, I’ve complied three short sweet mini reviews of some of the products of been using. Enjoy!
[Nature Republic] Botanical WaterProof Sharp Liner
Price: $9.50 ~ £6.26
1.3g
#01 Black
“This is a sweat and sebum proof sharp pencil type black eyeliner”
My first eyeliner review! Now both Chiwei and Sophie claim that I have amazing eyeliner skills and how I can paint them on in seconds. My technique is to be steady and take the line from start to finish across the eye – no stopping. Then place a finger at the end of each eye, squint hard into the mirror and make sure they’re symmetrical – the thing that Sheldon does from the Big Bang Theory except I’m not trying to blow anyone’s brains outs.
I had been relying on Eyeko eyeliner for quite some time, but then the very latest one I bought was absolutely terrible. The brush was itchy against my skin, it was difficult to get a consistent fine black line, and the liquid dried out so quickly. I was very disappointed in a product that is supposedly hailed from the great Alexa Chung.
Now onto the product...
Instructions to use:
1. Shake the eyeliner before use
2. Click the top black button 5 -6 times until the liquid ink reaches the tip of the brush
CAREFUL! Don’t click the top black button too many times as it may cause leakage
Hence I was super careful the first time using it and it paid off.
Love
+ Conserves liquid
+ Not wasteful therefore eyeliner lasts longer
No Love
- Clicker is difficult to handle – you can click it 2 -3 times and not see any liquid come out so you decide to give it a few more clicks but then too much liquid comes out
- Must wait for liquid to run down to tip otherwise its stuck on side of tip and becomes difficult to use
- Rubs off easily
- Doesn’t last that long throughout the day
- Pretty expensive for an eyeliner
Would I buy again?
No, I just can’t deal with the clicker.
[Mizon] All Day Feel So Food Perfume Mist
Price: $9.71 ~ £6.40
70ml
No. Baby Powder
Okay so you know my obsession with baby powder (see my Secret Key Whipping Hand Cream review), I should probably just go invest in Johnson’s & Johnson’s. Anyway, I bought this spray under the impression that on days where I feel a bit groggily, I can spray this on myself to lift up my mood a bit or use it a top up during the working day when it’s too heavy to carry around my perfume or as a cooling mist/type spray during the humid summer season because you know I’d rather not smell of humidity.
My number one tip to use this product is spray only once, maximum twice otherwise the smell becomes too strong and it will then feel like you’re trying really hard to cover up a smell. I think this product works as a light perfume however the smell doesn’t last too long on your body, perhaps an hour or two, max up to three. Strangely, I find the perfume lasts longer in my room than on me.
Love
+ It’s a very light baby powder – not obvious immediately
No Love
- Only an adequate perfume substitute
- Smell will be too strong and pungent if sprayed on severely
- Doesn’t dry very quickly on skin (or clothes – if you are trying to cover up that smell!)
- Not really a product that has both a nice smell and cooling effect (which was really what I was looking for, especially back in the summer season, nothing similar to the ‘The Face Shop Jeju Mist’ product so don’t buy this if you love the Jeju Mist!)
Would I buy again?
Nope
[SKINFOOD] Avocado Lip Balm
Price: $2.82 ~ £1.86
12g
"A lip balm containing extract of avocado, the most nutritious fruit. Replenish nutrients to dehydrated lips, removing dry skin. Also balances oil and moisture levels, keeping lips fresh and hydrated."
I bought this lip balm because I like a lot of the Skinfood products and the ingredients they choose to use, and was pretty attracted to the word avocado (mhmmmm sweet avocado smoothies). By the product the product looked nothing like what was displayed on the website I bought from – it’s not a green tin or green inside – I had to double check it was avocado!
Love
+ Moisturising – this product is definitely going to be an essential as winter approaches, I need it to work its wonders on the super chapped lips I get during the snowy season
+ I have a habit of biting on my lip and it often leaves the whole mouth area very itchy, I find this lip balm to be very soothing of the irritation and works instantly
+ Instant relief
+ Price is pretty equivalent to a lot of the lip care products you can find in the UK
+ Cute gold tin packaging
No Love
- Doesn’t smell or taste anything like avocado – careful of the taste because my boyfriend REALLY doesn’t like it
- I prefer lip balms in the form of sticks or roll ons – purely because I may need to apply lip balm and I might not have conveniently wash my hands cause you know, sometimes there just isn’t a tap a right there
Would I buy again?
Yes for its moisturising and conditioning qualities that really work on my lips
See you very soon, I promise!

[Glossybox] - September Style Edition
Goodbye Summer and ice creams and hello Autumn and the pumpkin spiced latte! September has arrived and with it the usual feeling of ‘where has all the time gone’…
Fortunately my Glossybox ‘Style Edition’ has also arrived, banishing the oncoming winter blues back into their corner.
Let’s find out what the September Style Edition had in store!
Glossybox is a monthly beauty box subscription service. They offer 4-6 products each month from a range of well-known brands and some new discoveries. Usually at least two of these products will be full sized, always a plus in my books!
Glossybox is £10.00 Plus £3.25 Postage
Glossybox *affiliate link
Value of Box: £63.64
This month’s box was a “Style Edition” which celebrates all that the new season has to offer, and came in a stylised box. Usually the Glossybox is a pale pink, but this month’s had a great watercolour fashion drawing on it. Also all the products in this month’s box were full sized!
Unveiled
Hair Masque
Maria Nila – Luminous Colour Hair Masque Full size - £18.95
This product was where my eyes were immediately drawn to. This is a hefty 250ml and at a rrp of £18.95 already exceeds what I paid for the box itself. The colder months can damage hair, making it more brittle and prone to snaps, so this nourishing hair masque is a perfect addition for the September box. As a bonus it’s sulphate and paraben free, and also 100% vegan! This means it will be more gentle for the hair and less likely to strip it.
Nail Polish
Nails Inc – Nail Polish in Khaki Full size - £11
Subscribers could have received either the blush pink or the chic khaki colour. I received khaki, which is great for me as I have about 4/5 pink nail polishes already. This colour is called “Battersea Park” and is a nice muted shade perfect for Autumn.
Perfect colour for Xmas
Invisibobble – Hair Band Full Size - £4
I love these hair bands! I own about a dozen in various shades which I picked up on my trip to Asia. The price that Western retailers put on these is exploitative though, I can pick up 3 for £1 in Asia. Have already put that on my wishlist when my room mate travels there next month.
Bellapierre – Shimmer Powder Full Size - £12.99
Glossybox coins the name of this shade at “Greige” a mix of grey and beige, which I have to say sounds most unattractive. Fortunately it looks better than it sounds and is a sparkly eyeshadow dust. These loose powders can be dangerous to the clumsy among us, but Bellapierre is known for its great pigmentation. I’m saving it for the next night out as I think it’ll make a great smokey eye.
Marsk – Eyeshadow Brush Pro Full Size - £16.70
I was really pleased to see that Glossybox included a brush to match the eyeshadow. One can never have too many brushes so this is a welcome addition to my far too small collection. I really liked the feel of these bristles, they weren’t too harsh which is perfect for the delicate eye area.
As a bonus Glossybox included a coupon for BestSecret, an online fashion website. This was voucher for £15, and for those who joined last year through Glossybox they received £10 to their account.
I love this month’s Glossybox, it was a great mixture of products for the hair, eyes and nails. Also including two tools (if hairbands can count as tools) is something I value. Sometimes the vanity table is heaving with too many new additions!
What did you think of this month’s box?

[Travel] - 8 Tips for Travelling and Taking Care of Your Skin ~ Sophie
8 Tips for Travelling and Taking Care of Your Skin
Sorry for the delayed absence, we've all been off travelling this month! So this is the perfect collection of my top tips on loving your skin while on Hols. I went up North for the weekend with only a large shoulder bag, via the budget-friendly Easyjet. This raised the question, how do I pack my hoard of skincare/make up while keeping to the restrictions. And are there tips for looking after my skin during travel.
The collection
Feeling cold up North, but my skin feeling great!
General Guidelines
So the general guidelines for liquids at British (and most European airports) is below.
Liquids in hand baggage
· Each liquid you carry must be in its own container of no more than 100ml (3.4 ounces).
· All liquids should be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of up to 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in) with a total capacity of up to a litre (approximately one quart). This includes mascaras, liquid foundations, gloss and fragrances.
· Solids are safe, so lipsticks and pressed powders get a free pass.
· You must be able to completely close the bag and be able to fit it in your hand baggage.
· The bag of liquids must be taken out of other hand baggage to be screened separately.
· In the UK and EU, the tasting or testing of liquids, aerosols or gels on the skin will no longer be a recognised method of screening. These items will now be screened using special equipment. You may be required to open the items.
Top 8 Travelling Tips
1. Be Efficient. Don’t take everything and the kitchen sink with you! Top tip here is to list out your essentials, then go back over that list and see what can play double duty and what can be left at home for the week.
2. Make Up Flying with make up on is a big no. Micellar water decanted out onto some cotton pads are perfect for a quick facial cleanse before you board, or while flying. If the thought of being in public with no make up horrifies you, some light bb cream or the popular cushions which provide light coverage is an alternative.
3. Moisturise. Liberally apply moisturiser, eye cream and lip balm to prevent dehydration. On longer haul flights this step should be repeated as often as necessary. Keep your skin happy by spritzing frequently. I’ve decanted some of my Etude House Toner into a spritz bottle, but any moisturising toner would do. Micellar water decanted could also be a good idea!
4. Drink Water. No more needs to be said.
5. Mini Facial Pop on a face mask. A speedy facial in a pack is how I’ve seen this described. You might want to leave the fun animal masks at home, and just freak out your fellow passenger with your best ghost impression. There are plenty of facial masks in tube form as well, if you’re not daring enough to go full Asian sheet mask in public.
6. Hair Care Hair frizz is a perennial nightmare and inevitability after flying. Pack some hair oil and run through your tresses to tame the frizz. I decanted some of my favourite Aussie hair spray into a travel friendly container to spritz at the end of the flight.
7. Dealing with Unwanted Oil Blot away the oil with some blotting papers. These are life savers for my fellow oily skinned people. Powders such as the Innis free no sebum powder can also help keep your face matte and away from being an oil slick.
8. Eyes Eye drops are also recommended to brighten up tired red eyes. Focusing on those tiny screens, or even the intermittent dozing in the dry environment leads to tired eyes. A couple of eye drops helps perk them back up. I myself prefer eye spray as its less hassle and I’m less likely to flinch and blink.
What I Took
The "downsized" routine
Blotting papers! Oil saviour
Aussie for the inevitable frizz
Fan favourite, and it's solid so doesn't count as a liquid!
Of course I need some snails
Decanting the toner. Multi-purpose products is the ideal for travelling
Lots more snail! Moisturisers to keep the dryness at bay
Samples are perfect for travelling
Gotta keep the peepers protected too
And those were my products! They stood me well for the 3 days I was in the cold North.
What would you have taken?

Columbia Road Visit
[London Town] - Columbia Road Flower Market; My Happy Place ~ Sophie
One of my favourite places in the world is Columbia Road Flower Market.
Whenever I’m feeling down or have had a tough week this is the place which brings me serenity and happiness. I take the old cliché of ‘go to your happy place’ very literally.
What follows is a very pic heavy post which will show why this truly is a gem of London.
Columbia Road Flower Market
Sunday’s 8am – 3ish
East London
A Brief History
This beautiful flower market was originally a covered food market founded by Angela Burdett Coutts in 1869. It closed, re-opened and evolved over the years following. At first it was open on the Saturday’s, but moved to Sunday by an Act of Parliament to accommodate the needs of a growing Jewish population. World War II hit the market hard, with rationing and the Blitz, but there has been a resurgence in popularity since the 1980s. Now people all over the world come visit this small colourful paradise in London’s East End
How to Get Here
The Columbia Road Flower Market Website (http://www.columbiaroad.info/) has an incredibly helpful map, see below. It’s well serviced by bus, tube and train routes.
Tips
1) Try and get to the market before 11, its quite literally a road and past 11 to get from one end to another is a battleground
2) Take your time to look at all the wares on offer. There's a true variety from succulents, pineapple plants to the cut flowers of sunflowers and celosia among others.
3) Enjoy the area! It's more than just the flowers, there's live music and a many good brunch places to go after you've perused the marked.
4) If you live in London go at different times of the year! The flowers available change frequently depending on the season.
My Experience
I love flowers. I even have my own cute window herb garden, full of my precious herblings.
Linh and Chief love getting my frequent photo updates :P
Columbia Road therefore is a piece of paradise for me. There's stalls on either side of the street, and a wonderful variety. The colours alone are enough to lift anyone's spirits. But enough of my rambling, I'll let the photos tell their own story.
Entrance from Hackney Road
My Arrangements
The best part of the market is being inspired by the flowers and creating my own arrangements at home.

[Beauteque] - August 2015 Unbagging
It’s that time of the month again and my August Beauteque bag has arrived!
I unsubscribed from them last month, but couldn’t resist signing back up again. It’s the only Asian Skincare/Beauty subscription box, as far as I know, which ships to London and I love surprises so had to give it another go.
So let’s find out if I made the right decision.
August BB Bag
Cost: £22 including shipping
Products: 7 items
Beauteque Value: £45.50 ($71.25)
My Value: £19.18 ($30)
The above was this month’s bag which all the products came in. It’s a nice size, but to be honest slightly cheap looking for my own tastes. My bag arrived with some marks on it (as shown below), which required a good wipe with some baby wipes. Fortunately I don’t subscribe for the bag, otherwise this would be very disappointing.
Marks on the bag
Holika Holika Wonder Drawing No Smudge Liquid Eyeliner
Beauteque Value: £8.60 ($13.50)
Korea Depart: £2.41 ($3.77)
Here
I was quite excited at first to see this in the bag. Beauteque is usually more skincare heavy so it was nice to receive this make up in the bag. Holika Holika is a brand I’m familiar with, and I had yet to try their eyeliner! It applied really smoothly in my swatch, and came out a nice dark colour. However it took a while to dry, after three minutes it was still wet and I smudged it slightly. Also I would doubt its long lasting abilities given that I managed to wash it off relatively easily with some water and a couple of scrubs with a sponge. The value as well is rather inflated given that I found it on Korea Depart for a third of the price, though this does not include shipping and I even found it on amazon for half the price. There is also a pen version.
Hanaka V Line Chin Patch
Beauteque Value: £2.43 ($3.80)
Yes Style: (5pcs) £10.90 ($17.07) or £2.18 for one
Here
Beauteque always includes masks in their bbag and this month was no exception. What was quite interesting though was that this was not an ordinary sheet mask, but one for the chin! I haven’t got a chin mask in my collection so this is a nice addition. It’s made with collagen and centella asiatica aka Asian/Indian pennywort which is used in traditional Chinese medicine. Now I don’t actually believe it will have a lasting effect on the firmness of my chin skin, but it will be fun to try.
Purederm Botanical Choice Nourishing Repair Hair Mask (Honey)
Beauteque Value: £4.44 ($6.95)
Ebay Value: (4pcs) £12.22 ($18.99) or £3.07 for one
Here
I got the Honey mask which I for permed or coloured hair, and this is one of the styles may vary items. The other two were Chamomile or Jojoba Oil. I really wish I had gotten one of the other two types. As it is I don’t have bleached hair, though I did perm my hair almost a year ago now, so it might help… This is not something new, it’s been around since 2012, I kinda wish they had added a more recent or interesting product instead of this.
Blotting Paper
Beauteque Value: £3.19 ($5)
Beauteque include a lifestyle item in each bag, and this blotting paper was this months. Yes this is useful. But Jolse includes blotting paper as a free sample frequently when you order with them. This is a large size, which is usually a good thing, but with blotting paper I prefer mine more compact so I can discretely keep it in my bag. This was a major disappointment to me, almost as bad as the time they included a cheap looking razor (April Review here).
Purederm Clean & Fresh Peeling Gel
Beauteque Value: £5.43 ($8.50)
Amazon Value: £2.60 ($4.07)
Here
This is a deep cleansing peeling mask and I love the packaging it’s like a juice box! Peeling masks are great for exfoliation and I haven’t tried many before so I’m looking forward to giving this a go.
The Saem Perfection Concealer Tip Cover
Beauteque Value: £5.43 ($8.50)
Korea Depart: £2.45 ($3.84)
Here
Finally some real positives! This is a pretty decent concealer, and has a brush tip which made for easy application. I felt that the product was creamy and felt light on my skin. This is a pretty popular product, and has got great reviews online. Other people have used this as a brightener/highlighter as well. The downside is that with something like a concealer is that it is usually best to try in store, as it might not match the skin tone. This was an okay match for me, and I do need a concealer so I was happy.
Mizon All in One Snail Repair Cream
Beauteque Value: £15.96 ($25)
RoseRose: £3.28 ($5.14), (usual price £10.25)
Here
Saved the best for last so this could end on a positive note! So YAY SNAIL! YAY MIZON! I have the recovery gel from their snail line already, and the full sized version of this. But it’s a nice travel size version which I appreciate, and I can’t say no to more snail. The reason I’m very happy to see this is that it has a great consistency, is a great moisturiser and is easy to apply. Snail extracts contain lots of skin-friendly proteins and anti-oxidents which is why it’s become a firm Korean skincare favourite.
Swatches
So that was the August Beauteque ‘Treasure Chest’.
You can probably tell by now but I was pretty disappointed by this month’s bag. The value of the bag was less than what I paid as well, by my own internet searching (though this doesn’t include shipping, I also wouldn’t buy some of these items so I think it evens out). There weren’t any standout items apart from the Mizon cream which I already have. What was nice was the mix of skincare, hair care and beauty items. Now hopefully they keep that mix up but have different products!
I also got this cute bonus Hanaka Black Rose Acne Fighting Mask for being a long term subscriber. Actually this was more exciting than half the items in the bag >.<

[OOTD] Outfit of the day - Eastbourne Beach Trip
So we recently went back to Sophie’s hometown, Eastbourne, for their famous air show and I followed the girls around all day with my camera and captured their beachy ootd look which you can find more about below.
In reverse age order (for a change)...
Sophie
“Summer in my mind = denim so I brought out my denim jacket which has been sadly neglected in the cold fall and winter months. I paired this with a soft billowy dress which contrasted with the more structured denim. As a bonus this dress had pockets! More women's clothing needs pockets. My shoes were wedged, would not have lasted the day in heels alone and had a cute silver seashell detailing on it. As my shoes were white I matched with a white bag. I finished the outfit off with my hair loose and free, only held back by the reflective sunglasses which I brought so I could watch the air show, and Linh and chief couldn't stop admiring their reflection in.” – Sophie
FYI Sophie stole those sunglasses from her sister, and I quote her “I’m totally going to keep these” so if you’re reading Hope, watch out.

Shorts - Zara
“I’m very into plain simple clothing and I love tees, you can’t really go wrong with a t-shirt at the beach. I was going to pair my stripy sailor-esque tee with my Taylor Swift denim shorts but unfortunately Sophie expected to catch a 10am train, and I couldn’t find them in the morning. So I had to opt for my plain black shorts which works, but not as well as denim shorts. I also brought along a light blue cardigan for when it got a bit chilly. Oh and excuse the shoes, I basically committed a fashion crime (ergo police car photo) with the neon green socks and grey flats combination. Basically I own no pumps (I’ve yet to find the perfect pair!) and my only pair of sandals were heeled (and there was a serious amout of walking that day)” - Linh
Chiwei
“Well I imagined a beach outfit to be floaty skirts and pretty tops so I went for my summery coloured skirt which floats at the back and a creamy vest which had an interesting cut out pattern at the top to give the outfit an emphasis point. This meant I didn't need a necklace so instead I wore a few bracelets and my watch. It was a bit cold so I just brought a pastel blue trench coat with me to add an extra layer and colour. :)” – Chiwei
Look forward to our next ootd blog! Please find bonus pictures of the day below!
