watching the numbers on the screen stay the same makes panic bubble inside of him. they’re far enough in this case to determine what will help their assigned person, but nothing seems to be working… he knew a lot of people had it hard, but by now, a breakthrough would happen.

i know marineford’s gonna be painful but what’s more painful is getting an alert that your best friend wants to end it all, and so you’ve got to save him with your new boss and manager, but you can’t approach him because you’re supposed to be in a coma. so you’re completely unrecognizable when you do approach him, and he’s unwilling to open up to a stranger. and you remember he eats fried chicken every time something bad happens, so you have to go back in time with your boss while your manager stays and tries to reason with him.

and when you get to the past you realize you land on the day your dad goes on a business trip your dad never comes home from, so you “coincidentally” find your kid self as he says goodbye to his dad, and you ask your family if they’d like to have a picture taken together before your dad leaves for the trip. so now in the present you have one last picture with your dad

he's not exactly sure when he started to stray from the group, the unchanging scenery and heat combination had caused his brain to shut off entirely. however, when he finally realizes he's not with the rest of the group, he has to do a double take. when he looks to the right of him, he notices he's not alone. perhaps he had unconsciously decided he wanted to follow a certain green haired swordsman, at least he's not alone.

being lost isn't the best, especially when it's with someone who's known for his bad directions (although sabo doesn't know that yet), but it might give him the opportunity to question one of luffy's crewmates. “ i don't think i got everyone else's stories, how'd you and luffy cross paths? you don't look like the type to associate with him. ”
