Veterans Ask Native Elders For Forgiveness At Standing Rock.
I never thought I would see this day when a white man apologizes for the tyranny and oppression of Native American population. This is so powerful. This is the nation that I want - responsible, compassionate and that learns from its mistakes.
God bless them!
People are missing the point here. Yes, they are not responsible for what their ancestors did. But this apology was a LONG time coming, one the Indian peoples deserve, and taking responsibility for your origins and ancestors is more than honorable. Yes, this is an entirely symbolic gesture, but it is a very powerful one, one that matters more than the status of the one giving the apology - though I’d argue a veteran apologising is WAY more significant than a spoiled bigwig white person. A survivor, a person who has seen war and wants fighting to stop and healing to begin, and he is not alone. This is significant and HONORABLE, something very rarely seen in today’s society.
