Roleplay starter is under the cut for those that are serious about it.
The X-Men had disbanded and reformed a few times over the years. Kurt had taken it the hardest when it fell apart last time and he moved back to Germany to pour himself into religious studies. He tried to become a priest, but it didn't work out. People just weren't ready for something as radical as a demonic looking mutant in the priesthood.
Tired of chasing pointless dreams, Kurt turned back to the only thing he felt he was truly good at and accepted in. Performing. He was traveling with a carnival, in the United States again. They were heading from the East Coast to the West and by some strange serendipitous chance he crossed paths with a familiar face.
Tonight was his night off so he stepped into a mutant friendly bar and sat down to have a few drinks and was immediately assaulted with the familiar odor of cigar. A specific brand that his old friend Logan used to smoke. He looked over and had to do a double take.
"Logan?!" He didn't realize that this wasn't the same Wolverine he once knew, but how could he know that? He quickly rushed over, ready to assault his old friend with a hug.
The old mutant was sore, tired, and downright feeling sorry for himself. He scowled up at the television that played some obnoxiously loud awards ceremony, scoffing at how dumb and insignificant it all seemed.
Pulled out of his trance-like state, Logan heard a voice calling out to him. "Huh?" As he looked around for the source, he found an old familiar face. It might not have been his Kurt, but a friend is a friend at this point.
"Kurt? That you?" He blinked, trying to make sense of things. There were still mutants around? A smile almost formed in the corner of the usually surly mutant's mouth.
Kurt grinned so wide that his eyes were barely even slits. He wrapped his arms around Logan, patting his back a few times.
"I can't believe it's you! I haven't heard from you in so long, I feared something had happened to you." Kurt said finally pulling away and slid onto the barstool next to him. Kurt waved the bartender down to order himself a drink.
"You look like scheiße, Mein Freund." He said, brutally honest in his usual playful way.
Logan gave a genuine chuckle; he looked and felt like scheiße most days. "Startin' to feel a lot worse than I look."
It's true, his age had played a significant role in his decline. Part of him had decided he'd been too old to care. Too old to want to keep going. That was the thing with being an immortal mutant. He couldn't die, even if he wanted to.
Looking around the dimly lit bar, he wondered, "Uh....anyone else around, these days?"
Kurt's smile faded and became a little sadder. "I don't know. I haven't been back to the mansion in years...after Jean died, and you disappeared, Scott never really bounced back. I think the school is still operating, but there isn't much left of the X-Men anymore." Kurt said and took a drink, immediately making a retch face. He had to choke the stuff down, he could never drink it with a straight face like Logan.
"what have you been up to all this time?" Kurt asked him, resting his chin in his palm.
Logan winced at the mention of Jean; his one that got away; then drowned himself in another glass. With a grunt, he raised his empty glass, implying that drinking was a majority of what he'd been doing.
"Drinkin' my feelin's, most days. Bartender, up there, keeps threatenin' t' kick me out." Logan looked to the man at the bar, snarling, "Doesn't have the balls to go through with it."
He turned back to his old friend, "I was thinking about going back to my old cage fighting days."
Kurt watched Logan for a moment. He had a feeling him and Logan were in the same sort of rut. It made Kurt reflect on how he had been just going through the motions, and avoiding risk. It took him seeing Logan doing the same to make him really see it in himself.
"Cage fights, huh?" He looked thoughtful. "I joined a carnival. Not really because I wanted to, but it feels familiar and safe. You are seeking the same, ja?"
Logan nodded, reminiscing. "Back when I was somethin'... when people used to be afraid of me."
He sighed, looking down into his glass, "Now, people see me and think I'm adorable, or pitiful."
As 3 college-aged women passed by, winking and waving at him, cooing amongst themselves, he opened his arms in a 'see?' gesture.
Kurt chuckled as be waved and gave the passing women a friendly smile.
"Come now! You would prefer being feared over being seen as adorable?" Kurt joked as the women gave him wide berth. He didn't seem to notice, or he was good at pretending not to. He just took another drink and grimaced hard again at the flavor and burn.
"Logan, do you ever get tired of running? I know I do." Kurt said looking a little distant.
Looking back at the women, Logan gave a faint smile, "Guess it depends on who thinks I'm adorable."
Following a moment to drink and ponder, he hummed, "Mutants...can never be safe. There's always humans that think we're more dangerous than they are."
Kurt hummed in partial agreement. "It would seem that way..." He said and looked past Logan as a few people walked in through the bar's entrance and his eyes widened slightly.
"Oh no." He muttered anxiously. "Those guys have been heckling at the carnival all week. I should go before they recognize me." Kurt got up.
Logan followed where Kurt had looked, stopping him from moving. "We don't have to go anywhere. They got a problem, they'll go through me first."
As he watched the hecklers, his claws did the oh-so-familiar SNIKT in slow motion.
Kurt eyes widened with concern and he put a hand over Logan's. "Logan." He said glancing back at the hecklers. "I really don't want any trouble."
Kurt hastily pulled out cash and left it on the counter, still preparing to leave, but it was already too late to avoid trouble. The three men already had their eyes locked on the blue skinned mutant and they were making their way over. Kurt was kind of hard to miss.
Logan’s hackles were up, cracking his neck and preparing for the worst. He'd had his fair share of fights with those who hated mutants.
"Time to do what I do best..."
SNIKT
Kurt rubbed a three fingered hand down his face realizing an altercation was unavoidable at his point. "Verdammt..." Kurt huffed under his breath.
"Hey! We thought we told you that you aren't welcome in our town, demon!" The three men walk up and stop a few feet away as Logan steps between them and their target. One looks down at the metal claws and snears. "You a carnie freak too?"
A false look of confusion on Logan’s face, as he then smiled, "Carnie freak? I'm not familiar with the term."
As he lowered himself somewhat, all six claws out, he snarled, "Who wants it first?"
The three of them look at each other uneasily, but the apparent leader stands up a little straighrt, like he is about to square up. "You think we are scared of a few knives? We are armed too." They all move to pull out their weapons.
Kurt winces behind Logan. He's going to have to do something quick, before things get dicey. Literally. With a bamf Kurt appears behind two of the men and grabs their shoulders. "Let's take this outside, gentleman." Kurt says before teleporting the two outside leaving the one behind coughing and waving his hand at the smoke.
Blinking at the smoke, Logan shook his head, then smiled, "Guess it's you, bub."
The one that was left behind suddenly turned white in the face. Not so tough now. A low growl in his throat, and a swift SNIKT of his claws, and it was done: the man was on the floor before he knew what hit him.
The other patrons in the bar were either standing at a distance watching the altercation, or left the bar in a hurry. The bartender was already on the phone calling 911 and giving Logan a weary look as he reached for his pistol with a shaking hand. "You need to leave!" He demanded, but he didn't look like he was willing to actually be the one to make him.
Outside Kurt was struggling with the two men he teleported outside. He was holding his own alright for the most part until one of them grabbed him from behind and got him into a choke hold. The other pulled out a switchblade.
Logan looked to the bartender with a grin, "What, exactly, is that little pea-shooter gonna do t' me?"
Picking up on a possible commotion outside, Logan rushed out, slicing the legs clear out from underneath one of them.
"Call that a knife, bub?"
Kurt stumbled forward as the guy who held him crumpled to the ground screaming. The final guy immediately lost his nerve, dropped the switchblade, and made a run for it, tripping over his feet and shouting expletives as he went.
Kurt looked down at the man on the ground with concern. "Mein Gott!" He started to reach to help him stop the bleeding. Out of all the X-Men Kurt probably had the softest heart. These guys would have been happy to see Kurt gutted a few moments ago.
Sirens blared in the distance, but were fast approaching. They really shouldn't stick around.
Logan was confused by Kurt wanting to help the man that was just as ready and willing to kill him.
"We gotta get outta here...! The bartender got a good look at us."
On the other hand..."Where'd that other little dick go?"
Kurt muttered something in german and pulled his hands back, now covered in blood now. The man on the ground didn't even seem to appreciate the effort, cursing them both. Kurt decided he would be fine until the ambulance showed. The first responders were merely blocks away by the sound of it.
Kurt reached and grabbed Logan's arm and with a bamf they were both gone.
An instant later they appeared in the fair grounds, in front of a shabby looking travel trailer from the 1970s. Kurt ducked inside and pulled Logan in after him before shutting the door. He then plopped down on the build in cot and buried his face in his hands.
"Oh Logan."
"Mmm?" Logan hummed, surveying his surroundings. He began looking around inside the cabinets and in the fridge.
There had to be some kind of alcohol around here, somewhere. But where?
Kurt didn't know what to say really. The whole altercation had happened so fast. He didn't want any trouble, but it seemed to find him anyway. He just wished he had teleported him and Logan away in the first place instead of fighting them.
Kurt jerked his head up out of his hands, realizing they were still bloody and groaned in disgust before he got up to find something to clean his hands and face with. He paused and watched Logan looking around his stuff, confused for a moment.
In the last cupboard Logan found Kurt's stash of spiced rum.
"Uh...Please help yourself." Kurt said reluctantly as he wet a wash cloth at the sink and started cleaning his hands and face.
Logan chuckled to himself, tearing into a bottle with his teeth.
"You....probably need this more'n I do." Logan hummed, popping himself down, next to Kurt and waggling the open bottle under his nose.
Crossing one leg over the other's knee, he sighed, "Could be a whole lot worse. Wade could'a' been here, too!"
Kurt sighed and accepted the bottle solemnly. He took a swig and shook his head. He wasn't normally one to drink his feelings. He only kept a bottle of two around to help relax his muscles after a strenuous show or practice.
"Wade?" Kurt asked not recognizing the name.
Logan chuckled, "Better you don't know. Annoying little shit in a red suit. Had to get away for a while."
He thought with a smile, "He's been good to me, giving me a place to stay. But...single room, 3 people and a dog?"
Kurt's face softens and he smiles warmly. "Ah! You found yourself a family. It does sound a bit cramped though." He chuckled in good humor and took another drink before passing the bottle back to Logan. "Have you been wandering for long? Do you intend to return?"
Logan sighed, giving it thought, "I can never really settle...have a family. It always goes south. And I outlive everyone."
Taking a swig, Logan gave another sigh, "As much as I want to go back, I can't keep hurting people."
Kurt hummed and took a moment to reflect on what Logan said before finally responding. "I don't believe there is such a thing as love without hurt. Some of the best things in life are fleeting, but I don't think that makes them any less worth experiencing. Perhaps even the opposite."
Pausing a moment, hurting, Logan then asked, "You know how long I've been alive?"
He was over 200 years old, and had outlived so many.
Kurt's eyes turned a little sad "Not exactly, but you have implied your age a few times. A long life is a heavy cross to bear." Kurt relented solemnly.
"You have bore it so well though. So many owe you their lives. Many of the X-Men would have met their end if it weren't...for... what's wrong?" Kurt trailed off noticing the look of pain on Logan's face intensity.
Kurt still had no idea this was a different Logan than the one he knew.
"I outlive everyone i ever loved....258 years is a long damn time..."
He allowed himself his occasional flings, or romances, but they always ended up the same way.

But where?
