The One Where Chandler Might Just Fall in Love
Summary: Chandler meets a girl when the group goes to visit Marcel at the film studio.
Word count: 935 but since this will have more parts I guess it’s fine.
A/N: I was searching for some Chandler Bing fics and I realized there weren’t many of them. So I decided to write my own. My inspiration was the episode 13 of the 2nd season also known as The One After the Superbowl: Part 2, but instead of meeting Susie, Chandler meets Olivia.
Please keep in mind that this is my first fanfic ever. Also, English is not my primary language, given the fact that I’m Portuguese, so there might be a few grammatical mistakes.
Anyways I hope you like it as much as I loved to write it. And sorry for the rambling.
After watching the Monkeyshine Beer ad, Ross knew he had to visit Marcel at the set. It had hurt him so much to give his adorable monkey away that if there was a small chance of seeing him again, he would take it without thinking twice. Of course, he invited his supportive friends to go too.
“Come on guys,” Ross tried to convince them “I really miss Marcel.”
“We’ll definitely be there.” Monica responded with her usual affectionate look.
“Sure! It will be fun watching a monkey doing a better job as an actor than Joey.” Chandler said with a sarcastic tone everyone was so accustomed to.
There were annoyed sighs from Joey and reasonable laughs thrown at the air by the rest of the group.
Chandler always found a way to make people laugh. His sarcasm and self-deprecating jokes, though amusing, hid the troubled and insecure man he really was. He made an effort to seem unworried to what the outside world thought of him, but his friends were the only ones who could see through the humor and one-liners. They had the ability to decipher him, but it was okay. Chandler was fine with it though. Since he was a child he never really knew how to fit in but with them, he could be his unapologetic, truthful self. They were his safe place.
It was the second day the group visited Marcel. They walked past the crowd of people cheering up for the actors, and as they approached the limits of the barrier, a guard told them that it was a closed set.
“We know. But we’re friends with the monkey.” Joey cut off. As the guard let them in, the young actor felt like himself was the star of the moment.
“Good morning!” Ross told the crew members as he neared Marcel. “Hey pal, look who I brought! It’s your old friend Harry Elefante.” The monkey grabs the elephant doll and throws it to the ground, leaving Ross confused and almost hurt. “I don’t get it, he seemed so happy to see me yesterday.”
“Hey don’t take it personal, he’s under a lot of pressure, ya know, starring in a movie and all.” The trainer tries to comfort.
“Now just how big of a star is Marcel?” Rachel wonders.
“In human terms, I’d say Cybill Shepard.” The trainer answers. The group is amazed as they let out gasps and smiles.
Chandler finds some actors wearing yellow isolation suits and throws an amused “So, are you guys in the movie, or just really paranoid?” Noticing the confused faces, he uncomfortably giggles. He is suddenly interrupted by Joey who points out to a girl.
“Woah, look at that piece.” The Italian man admires her figure while poking his friend’s arm as if to force him to look.
“Can you even think of anything else?” Chandler, annoyed, turns to Joey, consequently facing the girl.
“You should go talk to her.”
“I should kill myself first. It would hurt less.”
“Fine, fine” Chandler walks towards the girl “What is one more rejection.” He mumbles to himself.
“Hum hi. I was going to come across a very cheesy pick-up line” The girl giggles “but I – it wasn’t that good. And I remembered that I wasn’t bold enough. Sorry, I’m Chandler.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Olivia. And do say what you were going to say. I’m a sucker for cheesy pick-up lines.”
“Okay, there goes nothing. I was going to ask if you were the main actress of the movie. Given that you’re very pretty.” Acknowledging what he had said, Chandler hides his face behind his hands, embarrassed. “Not that all actresses have to be attractive.”
The girl laughs at the use of his words and how nervous he appeared. She found his nerdiness amusing and somehow, charming.
“But to answer your question, yes, I am an actress here. Not the lead one though. More of an extra. And thank you very much for the compliment. You’re not so bad yourself.”
Chandler couldn’t believe a girl was actually flirting back at him. And a very beautiful girl, at that. Everything about her was alluring, starting from her deeply expressive brown eyes to her glossy lips, detail he was trying to avoid. He couldn’t seem to stop though. Her warm smile was testing him and he found himself getting lost in it.
“Look it was very nice meeting you but I have to go. It’s time to go shoot a scene. See you around.” Olivia waves and starts walking slowly. Some part of her was hoping Chandler would stop her if only to say a proper goodbye.
Chandler fills his lungs with determination. “Wait” He absentmindedly holds her hand in order to stop her. “I was wondering If you would like to have dinner sometime.” He asks taking a step backwards. Suddenly his courage had disappeared and all he could feel was uncertainty. If she said no it would be like a slap in his face, but a pain he was already used to. He let out a “If you want.”
“I would love to” She takes a piece of paper and a pen from a nearby table filled with set objects. She starts writing down her phone number and hands it out to him. She moves away, waving goodbye.
All Chandler notices are her swift movements. His mind starts to wander. Could this girl he just met be the one? His thoughts are quickly interrupted by calls. “Chandler are you coming?” Rachel questions.
“Yeah, I’ll be right there.” He vaguely gestures his hand. And as he does so, he smiles.
