I will never be over the fact that Javert gave himself a backstory when he went to infiltrate the barricades. How do you do fellow revolutionaries Iâm Javert and this is my rebelsona, he fought in the army in his youth and now he wants to overthrow the government.
Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go âreally? Thatâs so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"
And you too can be like this! Without even being a professor!
one thing about the last of us, they Will interrupt the main plot to flashback to the saddest, most poetic gay love stories anyone's ever seen. and i'm gonna eat it up every time

biggest protection from internet brain poisoning is remembering the idea âare people making up a guy and then getting really mad at that made up guy?â. sometimes you gotta just take a step back and go is this this an actual issue with actual discourse or is it just something like four people on tiktok are saying? By getting mad at this do I sound like new stations talking about a ânew teen drug crazeâ that 100% is not a thing?
A couple of other tips, not just for internet brainrot but for brain poison in general:
If Itâs an actual Dudeâ˘, are you getting mad at The Actual Dude⢠or getting mad at a Made Up Supervillain Version of the Dude who is really easy to get really mad at? Sometimes youâve got to take a step back, pull out your Hanlonâs Razor and reality-check whether youâre making a monster out of a moron. Infuriating â evil.
Are you letting yourself be enraged by something that is, when put in perspective, only Worthy of Mild Annoyanceâ˘? If youâre starting to sound like a callout post when you talk/think about it then maybe itâs time to cool the jets.
What can you do about it? Sometimes itâs cathartic to let yourself be mad for a bit, but if youâre regularly getting Ăber-mad over something then you should consider what you can personally do to fix the Thingâ˘. If there isnât any practical action you can take thenâŚ
Why are you allowing this thing to upset you? Initial feelings may be beyond your control but dwelling on them is something you have power over, so why are you giving this Dude⢠or Thing⢠that you donât like power over you?
Whoâs actually winning if you allow this Dudeâ˘/Thing⢠a rent-free all-access pass to occupy your time and brain space? Because it doesnât sound like itâs you. I guarantee that who/whatever youâre mad at, the person(s) responsible have spent far less time thinking about you personally than you have thinking about them.
Whoâs benefiting from you being mad? Sometimes itâs literally no-one (not even you). In which case, why not let it go. And sometimes the outrage is being manufactured to further profit/ engagement/a political cause. In which case you should really let it go.
Sometimes itâs not A Thing⢠at all. And sometimes The Thing⢠really isnât worth that much of your time.
Donât give it that power.
