four word sentence prompt starter ( @thwipit ) ! // CLOSED STARTER.
“wanna go out sometime?”
his words catch the redhead by surprise, almost stopping in her tracks as she stared at peter. “like..on a date?” she asks, voice quiet as she tried to hold back a smile. she wasn’t sure he was meaning just going out for lunch as friends or if he actually meant going out on a proper date. she was hoping he was though because boy she’d say yes in a heartbeat. “i mean– if you didn’t mean it like that, totally, i’m always down to hang pete.” mary-jane begins, quick to regain her composure after a moment of silence. her cheeks are pink from embarrassment due to her being so quick to assume but she doesn’t let the though go. instead, so he takes a small step towards peter, arms crossed and her lips pulled into a gentle smile. “unless..you did mean it as a date, because if so, i’d love to.”
peter's mouth fell open once mj replied, he didn't have time to register what exactly he said and how exactly it could sound. since arriving back in 2019, the only socializing he really had was through his online accounts. nothing in person with any of his friends. apart from accidentally shattering felicia's heart and mary jane's occasional visits, that is. "i --- " peter stumbled for words, any words. if he could just muster something to say, that would be great right now. preferably before he ended up resembling a tomato. thankfully, mj spoke for him and he exhaled a laugh of relief, nodding his head frantically as he hoped the awkwardness would fade away. "y-yeah! that's ---" but then he paused, as his best friend now stood in front of him with a soft smile across her lips and once again, he feels like he could lose everything. one out of place word and she could disappear. maybe that was it, since the death of his first girlfriend, he was forever doomed with love. karma for what happened to gwen. his bottom lip began to tremble, he knew he couldn't lose her too. "mj, i..." peter heaved a sigh, unsure of what to say, his hands sinking deep into his jeans pockets as he thought over a response. "m-maybe we could go see a movie?"

felicia wasn’t sure what hurt more— the stitching or the fact that peter didn’t say it back. truthfully, she wasn’t sure what she was expecting. part of her hoped that maybe… just maybe… everything they’d experienced together, everything they’d shared meant that he loved her back. but here he was, avoiding the most important thing she’d said and instead, opting for a reassurance that she didn’t want or need. she knew peter would always be there for her, that’s who peter parker was — what felicia needed to hear was that he felt the same way, that she didn’t imagine everything between them. but just like her parents, she’d lost peter too. maybe not physically but emotionally. this was it, this was the only thing she needed to hear that solidified that she was better off on her own. she’d gone through her entire life alone, even with her parents being around, they weren’t very good at parenting and no amount of money would ever tell her otherwise. she’d let her guard down with peter, she’d given herself over to him completely and he’d inspired her to be a better person, to stand by his side… and now? now felicia had to fight on her own, she had to pick herself up because peter parker wasn’t going to and he never would. “you don’t need to be,” is all she says, her gaze drifting down to the stitched up wound before she’s pushing herself back up onto her feet, wincing as a jolt of pain goes through her but wanting nothing more than to run out his window. she felt humiliated and stupid; of course peter didn’t love her. why would he? they were two completely different people and mary-jane was probably much more suited for him than she was. she knew that now. this, whatever this had ever been, was over. the blonde makes her way over towards the window, hands resting on the windowsill, blonde ponytail flowing in the wind lightly. “i’m sorry about may. i know how much she meant to you. i— i heard about it in passing. but you’re one of the strongest people i know, peter. you’ll… you’ll find her, i know you will.” she can feel the tears welling back up and she removes the mask from her eyes, letting out a slow sigh. for once, felicia feels defeated. “my parents left me the loft. there’s a spare bedroom in there if you ever feel so inclined to swing by. it gets kind of lonely sometimes, you know? i’m starting to feel like i’m going insane in there all by myself.”
once the words left his mouth, peter could feel the guilt --- regret begin to flood over him. he shouldn't have said that, he should've just admitted how he feels but for some reason he couldn't. some small, selfless reason that may have cost him felicia hardy. a young woman already scorned and ambushed by heartbreak and loss. peter wanted nothing more than to kick himself, kick some sense into his being while the expression on her face began to crumble and this was all his fault. once again.
peter shifted out of the way as felicia stood, but he acknowledged her wince. all he wanted to do was help her, though he was now sure she would refuse. as he finally got back on his feet, he tried to reach out for her, but ceased before his hand reached hers. "felicia ---" was all he could manage, watching as she perched on his windowsill. he could already sense what her plan was. the black cat was going to leap out onto the rooftops and possibly leave his life, maybe for good this time. his heart sunk as his eyes remained locked on her, but as she spoke about his aunt, it caught him off caught. a large lump formed in his throat and he struggled to swallow his breath, baring only a nod as a weak smile crept onto his lips. all peter could do was listen to her, his eyes beginning to fill with tears and he had to bow his head, to suppress his emotions from spilling out. in that moment, he didn't feel strong, her words echoed in his mind as he could feel all the strength he held collapse. "please, don't go." he practically murmured as he kept his head down, though before she left, felicia gave him some sort of glimmer of hope. the idea of staying in the loft... with her. if that's what she really wanted, then peter would no doubt oblige. after all, staying in his queens apartment without his aunt had also been a lonely, upsetting experience for the young man. he was sure he'd wake up one morning to the sound of may’s voice, as if nothing had happened and everything would be okay --- but a few nights with felicia couldn't hurt. "yeah... i --- i’ll swing by," he repeated with a small sniff, only a hint of a smile visible as he bared a gentle nod. "if you want me to." perhaps right now, she just needed space. space away from his stupidity, that was for certain and he really couldn't blame her for that. however, there was still an impulsive side, one that wanted to declare his love just as she leapt out of his window. follow her on his string of webs --- but he knew he couldn't. for now, he had to let her go. drown in his own remorse for letting the one he loves slip away so easily. so foolishly of him.

“Did I? I feel like I have, you know, after defeating the grape juggernaut that is Thanos.” Tony replied, humming lowly as Peter continued his incessant mumbling. Did he ever breathe? “Can’t fight forever, kid, why do you think I’m mentoring you?” He asked rhetorically, placing one hand on Peter’s shoulder as he did. “Guess you are right though, can’t really rest while a mad man is in power.”
peter was still confused, but then again, he'd missed so much from being away. "b-but i can't be like you! i'm nowhere near being like you." he emitted a sigh, glance falling downwards. however, those thoughts quickly drifted from his mind as tony placed a hand on his shoulder, "--- i am?" a grin popped up on his features, though it soon vanished with tony's words. "i mean, none of us can. we can't stop until the evil is defeated... right?"

felicia knew that peter was going to take everything to heart like he always did. his huge heart and need for justice is what made him the hero he was, what made peter so inherently good. she’s watching him as he pulls the first aid kit out from under his bed, threading the needle and suture, noticing how his hands began to shake slightly. “it’s okay,” is all she can say, feeling her emotions start to bubble up. she’s always been good at suppressing everything she ever felt; almost like she’d trained herself to compartmentalize. it was the only thing that had kept her sane all these years, the only thing that allowed her to be black cat. but lately, the weight of everything was getting to be too much. felicia lydia hardy was far too young to have this much pain, to carry this much emotion and not be able to do anything with it. and the one person she’s ever been able to open up to is kneeling in front of her, looking up at her with those eyes and a small sob finally slips past her lips. the throbbing on her side had subsided to a dull pain, the anxious and overwhelming feeling of sadness weighing down on her chest bringing more pain to her than anything else on her body. felicia did need help— she couldn’t do this all on her own; she was trying so hard and failing every single time. and all she could do was punish herself for not being strong enough to carry the weight of her world on her back. maybe she really did need peter’s help in more ways than one. “i can’t do this, peter. i’m nothing like you. i’m trying… so hard… to be better, to be more like you and i’m losing… everything. i did lose everything.” the blonde pauses, letting out a shaky breath as she braces herself for the needle to go through her skin, her hand gripping tightly at the back of his computer chair. “and i’m sorry i left — i thought… i thought i was gonna be able to come back. but i need to tell you something because… i don’t know what’s gonna happen to us, pete. this isn’t the new york we left behind and if those sentinels come back after me and something happens to me, i can’t die again without telling you how i feel.” another breath, her eyes fluttering shut as she tilts her head up towards the ceiling. the pain from her wound and peter’s stitching is making her head spin, her own hands beginning to shake. “i’m in love with you, peter. i— i love you. i’m not expecting you to say it back or anything but i need you to know. just in case i disappear again and i don’t… come back this time.”
as soon as he saw felicia begin to crumble, peter's own eyes clouded and the concern etched into his features, the hand on her knee gently stroked her in a form of comfort. he wasn't sure what else he could do, he wanted to wrap his arms around her and tell her everything will be okay, but he couldn't. he remembered what it was like when his uncle ben died --- and then gwen. people trying to reassure him of the grief he felt and how he tried to push them all away. he nibbled at the inside of his bottom lip, trying to withhold his own emotions from breaking through, but he could understand how she must've felt. instead, with a sniff, he put a firm grip on the needle, reaching to her injury as felicia began to speak again. "no, that's not true." he steadied himself and pierced through her skin, stitching her up carefully as he removed his hand from her knee, dabbing at the wound with a cloth from his kit as he did so. "no, it's okay. you don't have to say anything. it doesn't matter, i promise." he spoke softly, because after everything that has now happened, it was all so little to what felicia had told him now. she had no reason to apologize --- for anything. he continued to stitch, concentrating on the incisions of the needle, but as she mentioned 'us', his eyes looked back up at her, a slight crease of his brows and his hand moved back to her knee. "w-what do you mean?" he stumbled out, but he soon glanced back to his stitching, until she spoke again. peter almost dropped the needle, his hands trembling as the rest of his body froze. this was bereavement, he thought. it had to be, he remembered being the exact same way when he lost ben. "felicia, i ---" he wanted to say it back, he badly wanted to but instead, he finished off the stitches, his own grief simmering inside as the words tried to push past his lips. the path of a hero was a risky, unpredictable one. one where he wasn't sure what the outcome could be. in the past he'd pushed his loved ones away to avoid them getting hurt, but... felicia was already hurt. more so than he could imagine. he couldn't pretend not to feel the same way, but at the same time, he wasn’t sure the circumstances were right. "you will come back." he finally said, a smile curving his lips as he met her gaze, though it soon faltered. "and i... i'm here for you. always."

the second that peter coughed from the smoke of his cigarette , harry reacted instinctively. the other male put it out against the ledge they were sitting on and flicked it with two of his fingers , watching it fall down to the street so far beneath them. “ old habits die hard, huh? ” the question bringing back to them in high school , when harry first started smoking , and how none of them liked it then either. but it was usually only peter that got him to put it out. “ work. ” harry finally , finally let himself look over at peter now that he was so close. their friendship nothing like what it used to be , but harry knew him. " i’ve noticed. “ the comment so bitterly cold compared to harry’s voice about peter's disappearance from his life. maybe he was more upset about it than he realized. ” is that why you look like you got hit by a bus? this work doing this to you? "
a little embarrassed the passive smoke caught at the back of his throat, peter nodded towards his friend as he watched harry stub out the cigarette, a smile tugged at his lips from the action, one he was so familiar with from their adolescence. however, it soon dropped just as the cigarette did down below. "seems like it." he replied, though in a mumble. "yeah, work." peter repeated, his tone far more optimistic than his friend's. however long it had been since they last interacted, he didn't want to hold any negativity between them. even if there would constantly be a spider-shaped elephant in the room between them. until peter tells him, that is. if he does. "uhh, yeah --- no! well," he halted, what type of work could he say got him looking this way? "kinda." he heaved a sigh, his gaze diverting back to the city beneath. "that’s... from delivering pizzas.”
ircndadstark:
“You’d think after the whole snap debacle, the universe would give me some reprieve from time travel—not involve more of it in my life. Is it too early to reclaim retirement?”
"woah, mr. stark, you can't retire! wait --- did you..." peter began to trail off, his brows furrowing as he turned away for a moment, trying to make sense of what his mentor said, but it had been so long since he last saw him. everything still seemed so abnormal with the changes. "we gotta fix our mistakes and... the people need iron man."
partyhcrdy:
felicia has so much she wants to say to peter, so many things that she needs to let out but she knows she owes him an explanation above all else. maybe that’s part of the reason why she stopped by; in reality, she could’ve probably stitched herself back together on her own but this was an excuse to see peter— to finally face him after all these months apart. she takes a seat on his computer chair as instructed, hand still pressed against her wound. “do you have a first aid kit or… something?” she questions, her voice a lot softer than expected. “i got bored and i was patrolling around… since you decided to take a night off,” felicia teases before leaning back in the chair and letting out a shaky exhale. “and then i ran into some sentinels and here i am. but that’s not important.” her gaze finally meets his, a small frown etched on her features. “we need to talk. about a lot. two things in particular but mostly… the reason i left.” she can smell the strong metal smell radiating from the blood and a lump forms in the back of her throat. “my parents were in danger, pete. so i left with full intent on coming back. but i– i got stuck in some sort of time loop and i think it’s because of what happened at the gala. i couldn’t come back. i didn’t… i didn’t say goodbye because i thought… i thought i was gonna be back.” a bitter laugh falls past the blonde’s lips, shaking her head slowly. “i guess it was all for nothing considering they’re both dead.”
panic boiled up inside as he frantically scanned for the said first aid kit, noticing under his bed he rushed over and grabbed it. "yeah, i just gotta ---" he replied as his fingers fumbled to open the clasp, only just managing once he paced back over to her, the bandages almost flying out the case. "hey! i --- did take the night off," he confessed with a small sigh, guilt beginning to surface. he should've known something wasn't right, he should've sensed it before it was too late. before black cat was outside his window. peter listened to her, though his focus was mainly drawn to her injury, and he pulled out his needle and threaded the suture, kneeling down in front of her. hands a little shaky, but he knew he could do this, from all the times he'd done it to himself. "felicia, i need to ---" he looked up and met her gaze, his attention now drawn to her words and he gripped the edge of the chair, shaking his head. "i gotta stitch you up, felicia, we can..." he wanted to say they could discuss this later, considering what had happened in the past didn't matter at this moment. she was injured and peter wanted to do all he could to help, despite whether she'd left him in the seventies or not. but that changed, quickly. once she mentioned the outcome. "what?" was all he could say, shaking his head. "i-i had no idea," of course he didn't, how could he? "i'm so sorry," he wanted to say more, but multiple thoughts ran through his head. maybe he should've just stayed in queens, in new york, in this decade. maybe if he did they'd still be here, he could've saved them and saved her of this heartbreak. but... he couldn’t and she was injured. he had to help her with that first. he rested his hand on her knee, gazing up towards her as he spoke softly. "please, felicia. let me help you."
do you miss tony?
“sure i do! i — wouldn’t really be where i am now if it weren’t for him helping me out along the way. and… there’s no way i’d be able to afford all the super awesome high-tech upgrades he gives me, that’s for sure.”
partyhcrdy:
the last thing felicia should be doing is climbing into peter’s apartment through his window but right now, she doesn’t really have a choice. she’d been stupid enough to slip back into her suit, patrolling new york from a few different rooftops when she’d come face to face with a sentinel. and while normally, felicia’s pretty quick on her feet, this one gave her a run for her money, throwing her around and leaving a pretty nasty cut on her right side. she couldn’t go to harry because he wasn’t home and things with mary-jane were a little… iffy. so, she figured if anyone was gonna patch her up, it would be peter. shaky hands are sliding open his bedroom window, carefully climbing through, using one hand to steady herself against his desk. she already anticipated peter’s reaction before he turned around, holding one hand out to stop him from freaking out. “if you think i look bad, you should see the other guy,” she mumbles, keeping her other hand pressed up against her side, trying to keep herself from bleeding out too much. // @thwipit
being back home and to help get everything off of his mind, peter had spent most of the night on his computer, playing games and chatting to his friends. it wasn't until his senses finally kicked in that the boy began to stir and he removed his headset. of course, it being new york, the city was never quiet. something was always going on, but with the new laws and dangers that came with those in place, it was a risk choosing which battles to fight. one he often took, but without his aunt around... it was different. too quiet in the apartment. he switched off the light and beelined towards his bed, only to flick around once he felt the breeze and presence behind him. "felicia?!" his heart pounded against his chest, posture straightening as he stood still. his eyes flickered over her, glazed in shock but he immediately noticed her hand pressed to her side and he shook his head, stepping closer to her. she had disappeared, she left him in the past, but right now that wasn’t important. she was more important. "nononono, what happened?" he reached for her other arm, scanning his surroundings quickly and he turned his computer chair around, gesturing for her to sit. "tell me."

Ted listens as Peter puts the camera down in front of him. “Luckily for you I can fix it without looking through it. What’s wrong with it exactly?” He asks as he’s opening a drawer to get out some smaller tools that would work on devices such as this. Ted turns around to one of the robots in his lab, asking her to get a box on one side of the room full of parts he might need — and she brings it over.
he bared an enthusiastic grin from ted's response, which soon faded as he thought of the fault with his devise. one he was sure he caused himself. "well um... you see, i kinda dropped it." peter grimaced, rubbing the back of his neck. "but i --- i caught it, before it could get damaged! too much. there might be a tiny bit of water damage too, but i've fixed that before, that's ---" his eyes followed the robot that approached, in complete awe until he realized he had cut himself off and continued. "it’s easy to repair, right? it’s a... pretty old model.”
sovietswidcw:
while she wouldn’t admit it - probably not to anyone but tony, the two were very real with one another almost to a fault - nat’s faith had been somewhat shaken by the recent events. but when she spoke to people like peter, still bursting with hope and optimism, she’d be lying if she said her faith wasn’t the least bit restored. she adjusts her grip on the paper coffee cup in her hands before taking a sip, offering him a bit of a shrug. part of the assassin wondered if other’s saw the black widow as he had. she didn’t work with the avengers for any kind of glory but she’d like to think they made some sort of a difference, no matter how miniscule after all that has been happening. “you give me too much credit. i’ve seen you in action, you’re just as awesome, peter.” her head rests in her palm before his question is directed at her drink. “decent enough for another.” she waves over the counter girl and orders them two more. “and your tab is on me. don’t even try to say no - after all, you’ve seen what i’m capable of.” she flashes him a playful grin before handing over enough cash to cover their expenses.
by the compliment, peter began to feel the heat rise in his cheeks, ducking below the back of the chair before the avenger could catch a glimpse. "you really think so?" he asked from his hidden position, only to lift his head again once the flush had faded. "i mean --- i'm no avenger!" yet. he thought to himself with a chuckle, a grin growing on his features once natasha ordered the other drinks. "gee, thanks miss romanoff! yeah, since we got back, i'm kinda digging in my piggy bank." he admitted with a slight twist of his lips, glancing down at the cups. any other occasion, he would’ve protested... maybe a little, perhaps with someone that wasn’t an assassin and hero of his. "not that it's a problem i just --- uh, need to take some photos. no biggie."

harry really wasn’t expecting anyone that would know him. his name slipping from the stranger’s lips caused harry to pause , the lighter so close to the tip of his cigarette before looking over his shoulder at the outline that was peter parker. the pain was apparent in the other man , but harry chose not to say anything. his voice wasn’t up for much conversation with anyone. the way it cracked these days from not being used as much as it used to be , he would hear. harry knew that. “ peter. ” he motioned for the other male to come closer , forcing himself to turn away from him and lighting his cigarette finally. the deep inhale into his chest before he exhaled a cloud of smoke. " months , years? who knows anymore. but here i am , alive. somewhat at least. “
the smile pained him physically, the cut stinging from the tear as his lips curved towards his friend. peter wasn't sure how harry must've felt --- after all this time. there was barely any acknowledgement, until he heard harry breathe his name. his eyes widened and he took up the spot next to him, sitting down on the ledge as his focus stayed locked on the cigarette before he emitted a sigh, glancing to the cityscape. "y-yeah." he bared a nod, guilt beginning to build up inside as he listened. "and that's good! that's a good thing." he exclaimed quickly, followed by a short cough from the smoke. he wanted to ask how harry was, but he didn't want to push him away from doing so either. "i... haven't been around much. work's been keeping me busy."
