ceridwen blinked a bit as her friend went on about dishonesty. “… i suppose that is true, but you are not always dishonest, thalia. you are dishonestly honest — like a paradox,” zip hummed, and ceridwen bunched her lips at one side, in thought. she paused. “would you call me dishonest?”

thalia hummed softly. “ dishonestly honest. how poetic. i like that. ” she gave a small smile. she tilted her head as she looked at the other girl for a moment. “ i don’t think i would. i would say you kept your cards closer to your chest, but i don’t think that is inherently dishonest of you. ”

the last person i hugged when i left, the first person i hugged since i arrived. your presence makes me feel more secure than most. you have more power than neither of us can imagine.

probably the only person i'll let hug me whenever they want, she's like a big sister to me and always knows what to say. it helps that she's an excellent match for my brother.

Hecate was learning to enjoy Auradon. It was significantly better than the Isle, though she missed the slight gloom in the air. She remembered that Thalia’s birthday was today. She didn’t get her friend anything, you needed money for that and Hecate didn’t have time to use her magic to procure one. She did however want to at least say hey. “I don’t have presents, I just have my presence.” Hecate announced before sitting in the chair across from her.

thalia didn’t look up from her cup as she smirked. “ a gift in itself, hm ?? ” she joked. while thalia did like gifts, she was never too bothered by the lack of any. she’s from the isle; gifts were never the easiest to come by. she finally looked at the girl, a small grin on her face. “ care for a reading ?? ”

The action was as natural as water flowing in a creek, but it also started a tremor on the seabed, rattling his brain. He wished he could deny what everything was so blatantly pointing towards. Of course, things weren’t ever that easy. So long as the tremors don’t disrupt the surface, he should be fine…. right? Bolin returned the smile, as small as the sweetest berry, as he placed his hand over Thalia’s. “I do believe I’ve made quite the impression on you then,” he mused softly before his expression softened. As much as he enjoyed bantering with Thalia and being this close, there was something on his mind. It pressed and pushed. He let out a soft sigh, leaning forward to press his forehead against hers. “Did Xiaoli tell you what she wished for?” he asked, his voice slow. He licked his lips once, his soft expression becoming more troubled. He didn’t like the thought of it– he thought Xiaoli was remarkable as is and for her to wish for more from herself… he sighed. “I don’t want her to feel the way she does. I want to make it better for her but I fear that there’s nothing I can do to help. It’s strange feeling so helpless.” 

thalia likes to think herself observant, and like the others in her family, she had the habit of overthinking and analyzing every little detail about a before she could see. but she also had the habit of pushing all of that to the side when she was near bolin. with bolin, she pushed reading into their actions to the back of her mind and just spent time with him. she didn’t quite see the problem in that. “ quite.” she said, softly. “ perhaps you’ve left the strongest impression on me.” she could tell when the air of the conversation changed, and he moved to a much more serious topic that was bothering him. thalia just pursed her lips, tilting her head a bit to gently press their noses together. she knew where this conversation was leading. “ not directly. ” she sighed, letting her eyes flutter shut for a moment. “ though i could make a few inferences as to what it was. ” xiaoli was a part of thalia’s family, the one the dalma’s chose for themselves, and like always thalia wanted to do everything in her power to make her feel okay. “ there are....ways for us to help her with her wish, but i doubt she would want it. ” she mused. “ but i think for right now, we cannot do much but sit back. have faith, bolin shan. xiaoli will end up stronger from this. ”

in the corridor leading out of the student lounge, a door burst open. in a cloud of laughter and giggles, dignan and two of his friends, all clad in their baseball uniforms, stepped out of the older student’s dorm. a couple of prep-schoolers around arcadia’s dorms were no rarity, but this dorm had been known for its contraband. only eighteen, dignan was yet to be legally allowed to drink, and his friends had believed this to be the utmost travesty. 

a little tipsy and all smiles, dignan marched down the corridor with his friends, finishing off their conversations, explaining they had to go to dinner or sober up before studying. one of them pointed at thalia with a look of awe – “she does fortunes! dude, dude, oh my god – dude – go do it!” – to which dignan replied with an excited grin. he waved his friends goodbye, and marched up to thalia, chest puffed out. “hi,” he smiled, knocking on the wall to announce his presence. “hi,” he said again, still giddy from his drinks. “do you really do fortunes?”

thalia glanced up, the corner of her mouth tilting up just the tiniest amount at the sight of the boy. he certainly looked excited enough. she reached out with her magic, just to see, and felt the tiniest bit of response. that small little blip that told her that this boy wasn’t all human. she gave him a bland smile. “ hello there. ” she arched an eyebrow at the boy, but gestured at the seat in front of her. “ i read tea leaves, yes.” she gathered a pinch of tea leaves in between her fingers and sprinkled it into a clean cup. she set the cup on the table placement across from her and looked expectantly at the boy. “ would you like me to read yours ?? ”

thalia narrowed her eyes as she gazed into the little tea cup in her hands. an anchor, and a lily flower at the bottom that she had been seeing for a long time now. then, a lightning bolt, close to the rim. never a good sign. she stared at it for another moment, before setting the cup down on the saucer and leaning back in her chair. she thought that perhaps it was time for her to follow through with what she had planned to do as soon as she got to auradon. after a moment, she set her cup on the side and grabbed another, glancing around the room. a warning in her tea cup put a bit of a damper in her mood, but she was feeling charitable enough to spare a few readings for others if they wanted one. she was feeling particularly jovial, but after all, it was her birthday.

Hecate sat herself down in the middle of the library, hidden from others as she opened her grimoire. The library was closed, but her Magic could easily remedy that. Over the years her mother had stored spells and enchantment into the book, it was sealed by blood magic until her 21st birthday which and come and passed. Hecate heard a rustle and creak of the door. “I have a proposition for you, leave and I won’t turn you into a lizard.” She murmured not bothering to look up from her book.

thalia took her time perusing through the stacks. she had an assignment due for one of her classes, and she had ventured to the library to perhaps work on it. but the tiniest feeling of magic in the air made her skin itch as it was so close, so she had given up. choosing instead to just explore a bit instead of seeking out the source, she had manage to stumble upon it anyways. thalia snorted at the girls words. “ i’d very much like to see you try. ” she drawled, stopping just behind the girl to examine some books absentmindedly.

Maybe it was how similar the stranger looked or the fact that a familiar aura surrounded the two of them. But he was sure the woman in front of him was a Dalma. They were DANGEROUS and it clearly showed. Emmy’s eyes narrowed some as his hand reached up to his bicep. It was a bad habit he had to get out of so people didn’t question it, to automatically cover his wounds (even if they were previously covered). 

“Just a little, yeah… but you don’t have to worry about it,” Emmy said slowly. Just because he was sure of Valentine’s power didn’t mean that he knew how his sisters worked, as well. For all he knew, she could be twice as eager to curse him. Maybe Valentine was the tame one. Or not. He didn’t know. “It’ll get better eventually.”

thalia caught his look, and the little tick he had. she watched his hand, where he placed it before looking back up at him. he seemed to know who she was, given his reaction, which cemented the idea in her head that her brother had caused this.

“ well, i’m worried anyways. i can’t help it, you know. ” she gave an small shrug. “ i have a soft heart for those in need. ” she patted the spot above her heart, giving him an innocent smile. she took a step towards the boy, tilting her head so her hair tumbled over her shoulder. “ so satisfy my bleeding heart and tell me what’s the problem ?? i’d like to know what i can do to make it get better quickly. ”

It was hard to wear sweaters and long-sleeved shirts all the time (especially during summer) but Emmy wasn’t about to explain to every person around him why he had burn scars up to his biceps that looked like waves rolling along with his skin, with a crab and fish design as decoration. He didn’t want anyone else to worry, especially since he knew what was CAUSING the burns but he still couldn’t control his TEMPER. 

“The next time I see that dumb GOD–” Emmy grumbled underneath his breath. He winced as he felt his skin sizzle underneath his shirt. At this point, he’d have his whole body covered with the intricate burns.

it was the magic surrounding the boy that caught her attention. usually, thalia payed any magic she came across no mind, seeing as auradon was crawling with children of magical ilk. but as soon as she neared the boy while she was walking back to her dorm did she get hit full force with the niggling feeling of familiarity. dalma magic. her brother’s she guessed.

a small grin played across her lips, and only grew wider as she heard his words. she held her astronomy textbook loosely in her arms, as she whirled to face the boy. she masked her nasty grin with a saccharine smile. “ having a little trouble there ?? ”

Affection was often something Bolin happily gives up, usually coming out when he fed the animals that came near his garden to investigate (usually as diversions to keep them away from his more precious things). The others in the small little family weren’t keen on such affections. He reasoned that’s why they both took each other’s touches in stride. “Not dangerous?” Bolin started, feigning offense before a smile started to tug on his lips. “I’m going to have to admit that being strong is definitely better than being dangerous.” He couldn’t even play along for the sake of teasing, yet his mood never shifted. A small laugh left his lips just underneath his breath, so as not to disrupt their closeness. He didn’t find Thalia’s proclamation amusing. The laugh was more endearing than anything. He could hear the truth in her words. Anyone who threatened those close to Thalia definitely didn’t stand a chance. He was sure that anyone who came across the pirate’s path would believe it. “Our family,” he corrected. From Bolin’s smile, it suggested that he was teasing. But he was completely genuine about the words. His mind trailed back to when Illyria aided him when he met Xiaoli’s aunt, how he told her he thought of the Dalmas as his family. However, saying it now, there was something different. An implication that Bolin wasn’t quite sure of himself. “Don’t think you’re getting rid of me that easily,” he teased softly, “You’re stuck with me so long as the sun rises in the East.” 

she shook her head, her mouth turning up into a grin as she stilled the hand that was brushing his way his hair, letting it rest for a moment on his cheek. “ definitely not dangerous. and i would be inclined to agree. i like you as you. strong bolin shan.” she remarked, thinking nothing of it. thalia lips twisted into a small smile. a genuine smile, not one of her smirks or grins. just the tiniest of real smiles that she hardly shared with anyone. she could hear past the teasing and into the ring of honesty the words held. “ of course. our family. ” as someone who took the word family very seriously, she would never once deny that the shans were family to her. and like she would with her own blood, she would go to the ends of the earth for them. ( and though she would never admit, she liked the way the words sounded coming from his mouth. their family. ) she let her eyebrows furrow as gravely shook her head in mock seriousness. she tsked. “ not once would i think to rid myself of you, dearest bolin. ” she let herself lean ever so slightly closer. “ and you can be sure that i will be by your side as well. as certain as the sun setting in the west. ” she matched his response with a small smile.

There was something about Thalia and Bolin couldn’t quite put a name to what it was specifically. But, as he stood, trying to come to terms with everything that had happened, having her come up to him and inspect him for injuries was quite refreshing. One of his hands went up to hers and he gave the smallest hint of a smile. “I’m fine, Thalia. You know, I’m sturdier than I look,” he murmured. The first part was genuine and true, however, it became more teasing the more he spoke. He tried to read her; understand what was going on through her head. His hand dropped as she stepped back but not as a signal to move away.

Instead, his hand reached out to her to gently place it on her hip, to bring her BACK to him. Bolin couldn’t afford to deny how much time he enjoyed with Thalia. Then again, Bolin couldn’t afford much of anything. “Well, for now, Auradon has all the reason to like you and I wouldn’t want any reason for you to be put out,” he told her, the tease still there. It shifted a little, became a little more somber when he spoke next. “… I know you can take care of yourself. I know you’re probably more dangerous than I could ever be. But, would it be too much to ask if you don’t worry me like that again? Give me a bit of a warning the next time you head up against an infamous sea witch.” 

thalia nodded, satisfied, and a small smile played across her lips. she let herself be pulled towards bolin, resting a hand on the one that sat on her waist. they were both more tactile beings than either of their siblings, and she assumed that’s why their hands naturally tended to drift to the other. she reached over to gently brush bolin’s bangs out of his eyes. “ after what i’ve just done, auradon should do it’s best to placate me. ” she responded, voice matching his teasing lilt. thalia gave him her signature look, one eyebrow cocked and the corners of her lips turning up into a smirk. “ i wouldn’t say you are dangerous, my dear bolin. you are most definitely strong, stronger than most, but a danger ?? no. ” she mused, but didn’t deny his claim. she was much to prideful, and found herself quite flattered by the remark. her smirk soften just a bit. “ but yes, sweet bolin. i’ll be sure to warn you next time. there’s no need for you to worry about me. i’d say i had things handled, hm ?? a little seawitch who threaten my family’s and your safety ?? she didn’t stand a chance. ” she joked, lifting her chin in mock arrogance, though there was a ring of honesty to it.

as soon as the dance had ended and the water walls ( something thalia herself wanted very much to learn how to do)  had come down, she had done a cursory check on her siblings and bolin, before taking off to firmly assure xiaoli that that woman was a witch and she deserved what she got. the old hag had hurt her family, and as a general rule, doing so did not go over very well with thalia. on top of that, the hag had gone and interrupted thalia’s dance. she believed wholeheartedly that the witch deserved far worse than whatever sentence she got.

but she put her cold anger to the back of her mind as she returned to bolin. she strode towards him, taking his face in between her hands and tilting his head back and forth to scan for any injuries. “ i swear to you, bolin shan, that i will be quite put out if you are injured. ” she said, masking just how angry she was about the whole ordeal. “ so please tell me you are not grievously injured, cause i don’t think auradon would like me when i’m put out. ” she took a step back, looking him up and down. if bolin was injured in the ordeal, on top of xiaoli getting possessed and illyria having to get involved, then auradon would be dealing with a very unhappy goddess on their hands.
