Whenever I post this I get “BUT WHY BURY IT?” From people
Heres why…
Zero odor, which mean no pests going through it. I can even compost “some” bread products because no ones going to be going through it for it.
It never drys out, ever. This helps speed up the break down of everything inside.
Its in the middle of my garden and leaches out into the soil around it bettering my garden. I now have a few of these in my yard, because I love them so much.
Worms. They move in immediately again helping the break down and giving me amazing soil.
two more new bears spotted by a park ranger! we don't know who they are at the moment -- the video is from far away and the bears are moving fast enough that it's hard to tell -- but we are pretty sure it's a young boar and a young sow who are courting.
once we figure out who it is, i'll post gif for those who don't have instagram.
New species of venomous box jellyfish discovered in Singapore
Finding highly venomous box jellyfish that are almost invisible in water is not an easy task—but researching them is crucial so that we can learn how to safely avoid them. Stings from these "sea-wasps" are extremely painful and can be fatal. Knowing more about box jellyfish helps us know where to expect them, when to expect them, and how we can minimize the risk of encountering them while out for what should be a pleasant swim. Researchers at Tohoku University and the National University of Singapore discovered an entirely new species of box jellyfish: Chironex blakangmati. The findings are published in Raffles Bulletin of Zoology. At first glance, it looked similar to others in the Chironex genus, but a thorough genetic analysis confirmed that this is an entirely new species.

Someone in my area is selling me a solar-powered camera birdfeeder for $25! I’m soooo excited, I’ve been wanting one of these forever but they’re pretty costly new, and they always get snatched up when they’re resold. Fingers crossed it works well, and I can hopefully share more backyard birdie pics here :)
settlers are always so enthusiastic about ''foraging'' and then you'll start talking to them about indigenous horticulture & sustainable harvesting practices and they quickly reveal that they're more interested in the aesthetic of being a Crunchy Woodland Creature than like reducing their reliance on exploitative industrial agriculture or rebuilding their local foodshed
