edit of my favorite post for the most important day of the year
My favourite Ben and Johnny moments because they are the bestest of friends.
Fantastic four (1961) #527
Fantastic four (1961) #533
I want to emphasize that this is playful banter, not hatred or borderline bullying. That's my one gripe with the 2005-2007 movies, and HEAVY on the 2015 one, those films definitely skewed people's view of Johnny and his treatment of Ben. Side note - I quite like how first steps depicted their friendship. You can actually SEE THEM hanging out in the kitchen or in Johnny's room together, or play fighting like bros!! LIKE BROTHERS.
Ultimate Fantastic Four (2004) #13
"Your eyes never really changed, you know that?"
Johnny is quick to reassure Ben when he is clearly upset about his family's reaction to being The Thing.
While I prefer origins where Ben and Johnny knew each other longer than right before the crash, this comic still captures their relationship perfectly I feel. This issue specifically features a lot of good Ben and Johnny moments, i.e. Johnny barging in and hanging out in Ben's room and Sue and Reed are busy, and general poking fun at one another, respectfully, of course.
They are ALWAYSS going to be there for each other in the end.
Fantastic Four (1961) #535
This entire exchange, and Johnny giving a comforting hand later on in this issue.
Fantastic Four (2022) #22
Ben carrying Johnny after he overexerted himself. I like that he can carry him in one arm.
Fantastic Four (1961) #587
I could put panels from this entire issue, and the silent issue following it. Ben did watch Johnny sacrifice himself, and couldn't do anything to save him, so his grief comes out in anger in the following issue.
Fantastic Four (1961) #520
In rising storm when Johnny is abducted to be a herald for Galactus, it's revealed that Johnny helped get Benn and Alicia together. I don't think this was canon originally, but it is now and I like it. Johnny's a wingman.
The ENTIRETY of marvel 2-in-1. The thing and the human torch. That run makes me actually cry.
Sue, Reed, and the kids are gone. Johnny and Ben are losing their powers throughout this run, and have to figure out how to live together, missing most of their family.
Johnny believes his family are still out there somewhere, and that they'll come back. Ben knows better, but hides that fact from Johnny to protect him.
Marvel 2-in-One (2017) #1
Ben leaves for space at some point, and isn't really talking to Johnny until Peter expresses his worry for him. (his worry is not displaced, Johnny is implied to be a bit suicidal here, and reckless with his failing powers)
Marvel 2-in-One (2017) #1
I would seriously add all of issue 8 if I could. That issue has my heart, and was the inspiration for this post. Here are some of the most gut wrenching moments in my humble opinion..
Marvel 2-in-One (2017) #8
They make me so sad,,
Tears in my eyes because the new Nightwing story is off to a great start.
The art is actually amazing even if the change in Dick's facial expressions are minimal at times. I actually like it because it feels more grounded and serious in a way. Not too over the top.
I'm much happier with Dick's inner and outer dialogue in this issue. It's meatier and he feels more serious.
Dick seems to be living in a slightly shitty apartment complex and all feels right with the world because of that.
I really like Dick's reflection on the city and its seeming permanence vs how he grew up in the circus. Except then he reflected on how what seemed permanent actually wasn't (aka the destruction of Bludhaven caused by the Zanni).
Loved the close up of Dick with him thinking, Every place is changing all of the time. We can only try and keep up. Beautiful. Poetry in motion. Dick himself has had to change and adapt to so much over the course of his life, so I like that change is being highlighted. And this change is going to challenge Dick just like everything else.
The witch woman immediately made me feel like I was watching episode 1 of SPN. The Woman in White. She's discontent with being buried at the crossroads, which I personally find interesting if you know anything about Hekate. She also was fearful of leaving the highway, and once again, I gotta think of The Woman in White because she feared going home.
The scene at the end where the witch grabs the wheel and makes Dick's car crash, which leads to 9 people dying... wow. Dick's guilt kicking in immediately. 9 seconds. 9 seconds he's going to think about for the rest of his life. The witch disappearing after that, and Dick thinking that she must have been real, because if she wasn't, it's Dick's fault for killing those 9 people. Wow.
I think what makes this issue feel so good is that Dick's typical ensemble cast is absent. No Babs. No Melinda. No Haley. It was just him, and it was beautiful.
I’m in tears.
I don’t hate Amy’s writing in Sonic X
I have seen so many people criticizing Amy's writing because she is "too annoying" or she get's in the way. And I WILL admit she’s written with some clear misogyny, but hey it was 2003 what dy expect.
However, in Sonic X, Amy is 12 years old. Of COURSE she's immature, SHE'S A CHILD.
Name: Amy Rose Nickname: Amy Species: Hedgehog Gender: Female Height: 90cm Weight: Secret! Age: 12 years old Favorite Thing: Soft-serve ice cream Dislikes: Boredom Special Skills: Fortune telling with cards, Dowsing, Piko Piko Hammer.
She’s still strong, wants to help anyone who needs it, genuinely enjoys cooking and dreams of opening a restaurant one day, and happens to be in love with sonic, which like, he’s a nonchalant superhero I feel like most 12 yr old girls would have a crush on him,,
She is loud and sort of oblivious sometimes, but I feel like the people who connect those aspects of her to misogyny (they could be, I am not denying the obvious sexism in early sonic media) are forgetting that she’s 12.
I actually think it would be more misogynistic to make her the over-competent motherly girl who takes care of everyone and never gets in the way of the boys. Why would you expect a child to act like that? Why is it okay for young boys to act annoying and immature, but when it’s a girl suddenly she’s a demon incarnate.
She’s immature and whiney because SHE'S 12 I cannot stress this enough.
Little johnny sketches from like 6 months ago..

bludhaven destroyed roy harper gravely injured welcome back outsiders 2003
Imagine Bruce's perspective on all this. He's like Nightwing do you need any help with all that you've got going on? Dick's like nah, I got it, I'm good. Next thing Bruce knows, Bludhaven randomly starts blowing up.
