I was curious about something in your project elvhen, in one of the list of words that you came up with you picked Babae / Baba for Father, but I would think, with Mamae being mother, most would assume Papae / Papa to be Father. Is there a particular reason you decided Father should be Babae instead of Papae?

Solas' favorite philosophers

This post made me go down a rabbit hole thinking about what philosophy Solas would like to read (you know he would definitely read a lot of philosophy!)

I think Solas' top philosopher would be Bertrand Russell:

“Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.” Clearly Solas would be on board with this, except with mankind expanded to include non-human persons.

“Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.” He would underline this several times, thinking about the spirits.

“The secret of happiness is very simply this: let your interests be as wide as possible, and let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible friendly rather than hostile.” One of my favorite things about Solas in Inquisition is how interested he is in everyone and everything, so he would definitely agree with this sentiment.

“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” He wrote something like this in his diary while dealing with Rook, I imagine.

I also think Solas would enjoy Simone de Beauvoir:

“I wish that every human life might be pure transparent freedom.” Of course he would expand it to non-human people, but clearly he'd love this.

“All oppression creates a state of war.” Indeed. He's not someone who would ever compromise with an oppressor.

“I was made for another planet altogether. I mistook the way.” I think this feeling would resonate a lot with him.

I walk up to Solas, I talk to him to hear him say “My Heart” or “Vhenan” I leave immediately bc I have exhausted all his dialogue options.

I can’t believe I never considered how being in love with a mortal feels to Solas. The terror of “you’re dying a little every day. If I stop and I do what you ask, I’ll still lose you. If I don’t stop, and I return to you what I took from you… I’ll still lose you. But I can bear your hatred better than I can your death.”

Which leads me to think this: Solas was going to do everything in his power to protect Lavellan once the Veil fell. Whatever chaos ensued, her life was immediately prioritized. His mission is complete. Now he can choose what he truly wants.

She won’t love him. But it’s less about being loved and more about loving her. The willingness to be hated to the bone by someone that he loves so much. Which then leads me to think that Solas had accepted she might even come to the place of killing him. Which, I hear people saying he’d have killed her because he killed Varric, but y’all.

I just don’t know.

Varric wasn’t HER. He’s surprised and ruefully glad to see Varric. He sees Lavellan and Solas can’t breathe.

“It would be kinder in the long run, but losing you would-“

Do I love you into your grave, when I can stop your grave from ever existing? How can I say I love you if I’m not willing to be hated by you in order to save you?

And in the end, he gets it all. He gets to save the world, though from the return of the Blighted Evanuris. And he gets to save his wife from Death itself. They can go where time won’t touch her ever again. He gets it all.

also. been having a very hard week. our house was burglarized / mini invaded. no one got hurt, but my sisters iPad she uses for her online school and dad's phone got stolen, and our kitchen was semi destroyed, our rice supply was spilled everywhere and some?? eggs?? and canned stuff was stolen. After that, a family friend who was helping me with house duties got a stroke. So now I am all alone in dealing with all of this. It would be a huge mental health imrpovement, would absolutely mean the world to me if you guys can maybe help me boost my art? it's just that I love drawing and it's the only thing that's been cheering me up.
