In my opinion, Lo'ak's difficulty in being a perfect soldier lays in the fact that he's not meant to be one, he's meant to be a leader. Of course he's reckless, just like his father was. He stands for what he believes is right, even when he's told to stay put. I'm not saying that not following orders is always the right thing, I just think his disobedience always comes from a pure heart. He simply can't accept injustice, or to give up without trying. All of that, while being just a kid. A brave, kind, sensitive child.
