Kinda sucks that his casual outfit changed from this to a super preppy look in my opinion
I know he’s classy because of his upbringing but I wished he just kept that for special occasions like fancy dinners and such, not for casual wear 💔 I really miss his cool boots and jeans
i have a love-hate relationship with the super rich kid-esque fits they start putting him in... bc he looks cool yes!! but also!! he's just a boy!! let him be just a boy!!
been writing a candy!jade song in the perspective of her towards dave in their collapsing relationship. it's been PAINFUL. this is the last refrain. can't wait to release it.
its so sick to see love for this! im finalising the mix and i want to either commission an mv or try my hand at it from scratch. here's some other lines from it - it's pretty short, but i'm pretty proud of it. :) love this girl. something is so wrong with her
HIHI thanks for all the love on the candy!jdavejade song i've been working on :> before the mv process begins, i wanted to share the audio-drama-y thing near the end of the song. shit was painful to record :')
as ive said many times i love the dynamic of "character A is in love with character B who is aromantic, and they're both aware of this and function fine with character A just enjoying being close to B even if it means not being able to actually be in a relationship with them". and because i hate allos i dont have to care if thats "unrealistic" or "puts too much stress on character A". WHO GAF!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET THIRD THING DYNAMICS FOREVER!!!!!!!!
u should talk abt aromantic rika :3 i see ur vision :3
rubs my grubby little hands together and giggles evilly
I think an easy misconception to make about rika's character is that she is "boy crazy", i.e. a girl who easily becomes interested in boys.
her interest in ichinose aside (for now), what rika is actually interested in is the concept of "romance". she has inflexible ideas about what "love" is and how it works. she is also convinced that she is able to recognize when someone's in love, and this belief is rooted in very stereotypical, heteronormative ideas of what romance is.
for example, we all remember when rika saw fuyuka, a manager of inajapan, express worry for one of the players, and immediately interpret it as a sign that fuyuka had a crush, right? with the only "sign" being that fuyuka was staring at endou during practice. when caring for the players is fuyuka's JOB !!
there was no indicative of anything romantic going on, but rika immediately jumped to the conclusion that there was, based on very little evidence. and though rika is the only character who seems interested in romance and thus the only one to make the association "gazing longingly at a boy" = "crush", it's not like this is an uncommon association to make.
a lot of media portrays boys and girls being friendly as inherently romantic, and even irl a shit ton of ppl think that way too, even if it's obviously false.
another example is with touko and tsunami, whose interactions would have absolutely no hint of romantic undertone if not for rika openly expressing her interpretation of their dynamic as romantic and forcing that upon the two of them (and therefore the audience).
you'll notice neither of those examples had any real romance in them. the few dynamics in the anime that ARE intentionally written to have romantic undertones, like natsumi and aki's with endou, are never even mentioned by rika (or if they are I don't rmr and one of you should correct me). the implication here then is that she has no idea what real "love" actually looks like and has no ability to recognize it.
which brings me to her infatuation with ichinose. she supposedly falls in love with him at first sight, without even knowing a single thing about who he is or what he's like. that in itself is already a red flag, but what I find the most interesting is how she expresses this "love" for ichinose.
rika has no interest in getting to know ichinose or even in being his girlfriend. the objective she immediately jumps to within their relationship is marriage. she, a middle schooler, immediately wants to get MARRIED to this random guy she just met on the street. she even goes on to detail her ideal domestic life with him. I don't even have to say that that's insane, right??
truthfully, I believe rika has no experience with love. if she did, she'd probably know it's not the kind of thing you can just recognize at a glance, and that it doesn't happen overnight.. or at first sight. it's totally possible to feel attracted to someone at first sight, but "falling in love" is a completely separate matter.
if anything, I think rika mistakes her aesthetic attraction for ichinose (i.e. thinking he's handsome) for love. aesthetic attraction is completely unrelated to one's sexuality (though for many people they tend to align) as you can think someone is beautiful without wanting to date or get intimate with them.
with the way rika continuously mistakes non-romantic dynamics and interactions as romantic, AND furthermore forces her views onto not only others but also herself, I can't help but think that she is subconsciously overcompensating for her own lack of romantic attraction. she doesn't know what love actually is, but she has this idea ingrained into her, stemming from society, media and cultural influence, that love is when a boy and a girl get married, and that if a girl gazes at a boy that means she's in love with him.
from my own experience as someone on the aromantic spectrum, before you know you're aromantic, you mistake your own feelings for romantic attraction all the damn time. it's a common experience for aros to think they are bi/pan before they realize they're aro, because "attraction to all" and "attraction to none" are incredibly hard to differentiate without years of experimentation and introspection.
I also think it makes sense for rika to be interested in the topic of romance not despite being aro, but specifically BECAUSE she is aro. the more you realize something about yourself is off from the "normal", the more you start subconsciously overcompensating, y'know? especially as a kid. humans are social creatures and we all try to make part of some in-group for the sake of our own safety and well-being.
there's also lots of room to interpret her as a lesbian (everyone's familiar with the term comphet, right?) and I personally think she is both arospec AND a lesbian but I just wanted to highlight the aromantic interpretation bc 1. I am aro and 2. aro experiences/interpretations are just less talked about, not just in fandom but in general.
TIKTOKER: I swear to God, no one tickles my testicles more than the people of my own fucking country. Okay, so like WHAT HAPPENED was this year, this summer, I was in Korea. And I linked up with a homie that I haven't met in a long time, just catching up. "Oh my God, how are you? You GRADUATED? That's insane, where do you work!?" Whatever. Okay.
So there was a conversation about like, food and preferences. So I just asked him! I just asked him: (in Korean, pronoucing "asparagus" as a Korean loan word) "Hey, when you eat steak, do you put asparagus?"
(in English) And this BITCH. He looks at me DEAD STRAIGHT IN THE FUCKING EYES. Has the AUDACITY to just.... degrade, I guess! Ask me: (in Korean) "HAH! Hey, aren't you from America? Why are you calling it (emphasizing the Korean pronunciation of asparagus) ASPARAGUS?"
(in English, in an exaggerated stereotypical American accent) OH, I'M SORRY. I'M SORRY! Am I supposed to say ASS-PARA-GUSS? ASS-PARA-GUSS? DO I GO (says his question again in Korean, but breaks up the flow of the speech by pronouncing all the loan words with American pronunciation).
IT FUCKS THE FLOW!!! WHY ARE YOU BITCHING!? I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY! YOU MONOLINGUAL FUCK!!!!
when the character hides themselves behind a persona? good. when the character hides themselves behind a persona but the line between the "real" and "fake" them is blurry and its debatable who would count as the "true self" (if there even is one) or if theres even a difference between them? great! when the character hides behind a persona but both the persona and the supposed "true self" are equally real/important and treated with kindness and neither are made out to be bad/wrong or gotten rid of? AMAZING
