l'eterno ritorno dell'uguale
head in hands i have no clue what my colleague is asking me to do
No, i know 3 finals lost is not the same as 3 non qualifiyng campaigns but it meant it more on a lack of organization and corruption level, i mean our federation is still corrup as fuck they just could finally put it together to make it work. You guys do have good players depite all the memes going around it may not be on the level of the 2000s but it's good enough for ofc qualifiying and do a decent campaign (like it's most likely going to be for us after Messi retirement) and after that it's always a gamble if a NT can win or not. Having stellar players isn't a guarantee of anything, just look at England, saying this without trying to be shady but they've always had top 5 teams and yet always fizzled out. The Euro 2021 is proof enough that a good project and a team that works well enough it's what needed, it was Spain's way of winning this time and, even if people don't agree it was ours last WC, and Germany at 2014 and Italy at 2006... the list goes on.
Yeah yeah, don't worry, I was just being salty... Idk, I think the problem with our players is that they think too highly of themselves and can't accept criticism / they think they can just manifest qualification because they play for Italy and "we can't afford to miss another WC". We should get a head coach who isn't afraid to speak his mind and "put them in their place" (idk if that's the right way to put it, but it's half past midnight and I'm already half asleep lol), but I have no idea who that could be.
Anyway, you are really sweet, thank you for your words!!
Honestly i look at you guys and think you are living what we argentinians lived that culminated in the clusterfuck of 2018. Nobody wanted to be our coach anymore and the FA went with Scaloni, who was the only one "stupid" enough to go for the job and then we went to live one of our best phases ever. What i meant to say is that you guys could also have that like literally we also have tons of corruption but we could done it eventually and believe me nobody here believed that would be possible after losing three consecutive finals in a row and embarrassing ourselves in 2018 and be that WC laughing stock. Maybe this is yours wake up moment. We kinda miss you guys at the WC you guys are probably one of the only enjoyable europeans teams and despite the fact we are currently fighting neck to neck for the historical third place there's only love for you guys.
Thank you, anon. I really miss seeing us at the WC too (even if I don't think you can compare losing three finals in a row to failing to qualify for the World Cup three times in a row, but I appreciate the sentiment). I genuinely hoped North Macedonia would be our wake-up call, but it clearly wasn't. I really think the only things that could save us are time, patience, and hard work, but I don't think the FIGC, the next head coach or the players have the qualities to make that happen.
We'll see, i guess.
