“i feel you there, i’ve been here for three days now and i’m already over it,” nicole sighed. the people at recupero were …interesting to say the least. it took everything in her during her group therapy sessions to not scream out that she didn’t belong there, that she was fine and shouldn’t be trapped like a prisoner because of one small mishap. but, as per usual, she kept her mouth shut to keep her out of trouble. the only person she had seemed to befriend during the past 72 hours was her nurse, and he had to be friendly to her seeing as how it was his job. the girl next to her introduced herself as tillie and she grinned before sticking her hand out to her. “nice to meet you tillie, i’m nicole.”

“Same here. I was going to try out the game room soon, if you wanted to come with. I don’t know what we’d find there but I don’t know, maybe it could be fun. I hear there’s yoga too? Or something like that. I only half read the brochure.” she shrugs. She didn’t know how long she’d be stuck in this place but she figured she’d might as well find activities to do to distract her. It seemed like the only way to keep sane. She smiles at Nicole and shakes her hand. It was nice to finally meet someone who showed her kindness. She could use a friend around here..“Oh that’s a nice name. It suits you, I think. Are you from the states?”

“Do you think they would put a gym on the second floor?” He wonders aloud, but follows down the right corridor after Tillie. He supposes nothing would be too strange, they are in a mental institute- More like loony bin… Sebastian lets out a quiet sigh, only catching half of Juliette’s question. “Oh. Um, yeah sort of?” He smiles weakly and shakes his head, trying to clear his mind. “I’m from Miami, which is in Florida, which is in the south. It’s that one state that sticks out into the gulf, you know? The Gulf of Mexico, I mean.” Sebastian rambles a bit, then realizes something too late. She’s from a different country, she’s not an idiot. Presumption much. “Shit, no, I mean,” he blushes, his ears heating. “You seem smart, you j-just sound foreign, like French or Russian?” He gives the girl an apologetic glance, “Sorry… I’m not usually an asshole, I swear.” But aren’t you?

“Oh, my gym was on the second floor, so I just thought - No, yeah you’re probably right.” She nods as she listens to him, outwardly cool but inwardly enthusiastic about her correct guess.“Yeah,” she says with a smile, a light laugh escaping her lips before she has the chance to catch herself. She wasn’t offended, after-all it wouldn’t be the first time something like this had happened to her. “Don’t worry, I know where Miami is.” She eyes him with both amusement and confusion. She didn’t mean to make him so anxious. Was she intimidating? Was it her expression? She wonders if he’ll calm down if she tells a joke. She snorts, playfully rolling her eyes. “What? No, I’m from Idaho. We all sound like this in my town...Yeah, no, I’m French.” She laughs again to reassure him, but continues the joke, imitating his voice in her best American accent. “Which is in Europe. It’s that one country to the West, you know? Like, below the kingdom. The United Kingdom, I mean.”

“yeah, most definitely!” she grinned. “going to the gym alone is never fun, but i haven’t found anyone in this god forsaken place to drag along with me yet,” the brunette smirked as she began to lead the way.

“I’ve only been here a few days. Frankly I was too scared to ask anyone to come with me... Well, that and everyone here is sort of intimidating.” She wants this to be a joke, but it sadly isn’t. Aside from her group therapy sessions, she really hadn’t taken the time to speak to anyone else. There was always a part of her that would retreat - similar to the ways in which a little girl would. She’d always get an overwhelming shyness in places she wasn’t familiar (and even the places that she was) and go about her days in silence, avoiding other people as though they’d get her sick if she were to make contact. It had been like this for her entire life, an internal fight of sorts. She gives the other girl a laugh to hide the part of her that is still nervous and begins to walk down the hallway. “I’m Tillie, by the way.

nicole had her music blaring as she was walking through the halls of recupero. she almost hadn’t heard the voice of the other girl calling out to her, but her music happened to be in the middle of transitioning. taking one headphone out, she smiled softly at the other standing in front of her. “i’m actually headed there, you can tag along if you want,” the brunette replied.

Tillie’s eyes grow wide with both relief and joy. “Really?” She smiles at the girl, thinking about her fortunate timing. “Oh my goodness that would be amazing, thank you so much.”

Sebastian just sort of…stares at Juliette. She’s peppy, he notes. They’re all peppy, idiot. Everyone he had met so far at the facility was much too peppy for his liking. Which he figured was fine, it’s whatever, because he wouldn’t be here long anyway. He rolls his eyes and fondly smiles at Tillie, “I don’t really think there’s many ‘cool’ things to do around here to begin with.” He looks down the hallway again, it would be okay if he didn’t meet with the head doctor right way… He could spare some time. “Right, so which way did you come from? If we go the opposite way, I’m sure we’ll eventually find it.”

Tillie noticed Sebastian giving her an odd look and she immediately blushes from embarrassment. She clears her throat before responding. “Yeah you’re probably right. I came from the left hall, so maybe let’s try the right? We could try going upstairs too.” She waits for his approval before she starts down the right corridor. After a moment of silence, she turns to him. “So, mysterious Sebastian,” she begins, smiling and giving the boy a slight wiggle of her eyebrows. “Where are you from? The accent says United States, and the tan says the south or California... Am I close?”

Sebastian snorted at the thought of the tour, “I stopped listening halfway through…” Honestly, he hadn’t been listening from the beginning. Sebastian felt dazed since the moment his mother dropped him off at the airport in Miami. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t angry about the way his family abandoned him. Especially when he was still reeling from the lost of his brother. But, now, he was just in a neutral daze. His mind somewhere back home on a familiar sandy beach… “Ha, yeah right, ‘second home’ my ass…” He mumbled to himself, before turning his attention back to the girl. “Sebastian, nice to meet you… Tillie? Cute nickname.” He mused as he finally, truly looked at Juliette.

“Nice to meet you too,” she says smiling, fingers curling behind her ear to tuck a lock of hair. Her eyes grow wide with excitement at his words “Oh, thanks!” She chirps. No one had ever told her that before. It was a nickname she had chosen for herself years ago, but had never been given the opportunity (or approval) to use. Now, miles and miles away from her old life, she figured she could start anew. And to start it all off? Her name. “Hey, uh, this might be a really strange question to ask considering we just met and all, but do you think you could come with me? To like, find the gym? Unless you are busy or something, I know this was al sort of out of the blue. Or, I mean, you probably have cooler things to do than walk around this facility.”

Sebastian jumps a bit at the sound of the girl’s voice. “Oh, um…” He frowns, looks down the hall and then glances in the other direction. The crease between his eyebrows deepens as he looks back at the girl, slightly shaking his head. “The short answer is no.” He chuckles at himself, the tips of his ears turning pink. “The long answer is that I’m actually lost, too. I’m new and, uh, all of this–” He quickly raises his hands and makes a vague gesture. “–is new to me.”

Tillie smirks and rolls her eyes. “You’d think after that horrible tour that we would’ve retained something.” Her smile turns into a faint frown. Ever since she got to the facility she’d tried to focus on other things to distract her from reality. Everything had happened so fast, one moment she was in France and the next she was on a plane to Hawaii. It didn’t necessarily make her sad that she wasn’t with her family anymore, in fact if anything she’d preferred to be away. But she wished for an in-between. A place far away, but somewhere she could relax. “Yeah it’s all kind of crazy, isn’t it? I hope, uh, what did that tour guide say again? That ‘ Recupero will start to feel like a second home’? I mean, I doubt it, but I - Yeah. I’m Juliette, by the way. But Tillie will do just fine.”

“Hey -” The girl says, attempting to grab the attention of the other person. Her voice is hasty, but polite. “I’m sorry to bother you, but do you know where the gym is? I’ve walked around this place for twenty minutes and I can’t find it.” Juliette laughs lightly, slightly apologetically. “The place is just so ...damn big.”
