The rare occasion when being American actually makes me smile

When I was the first time in America I visited my best friend in Kansas City. My flight was to Chicago and had to get into another plane. The TSA guy looked angry at me and asked me why I want to go somewhere else because I am in Chicago. Also had in my head: "you are in America. They say vacation not holiday." When the guy asked me if I am here for holiday I screamed: "VACATION!" (I am highly afraid of authorities and act sadly stupid). He then asked me where my final destination is and I said: "Kansas City". He then started to smile gave me my passport back and told me that I must try the BBQ there. 🙈

P.S.: I did with my best friend a roadtrip and also visited states in the south. My english sucks and I felt in general not well ordering things. We were at a gas station and ordered a small ice tea (this "small" ice tea was almost taller than me xD). I wanted to pay and the guy said something that sounds like a whole different language. A bit like me when I speak Russian when heavy drunken. I gave him my credit card bowed and left. In the car I asked my friend: "What did he say?" And my friend (he is American) said: "I have no idea." 😅
