Originally constructed to provide emergency drinking water, in far away Washington DC, the Savage River Reservoir is home to trout and other species that thrive in its deep, cold, water. At some places, it is 150ā deep which provides the trout places to wait out the warmer weeks.
The Maryland State record Rainbow was caught here and though it is stocked, many of the fish holdover from year to year, growing in size.

The Youghiougheny River in Garrett County is a catch and release area only. A survey, three years ago, placed the number of āqualityā sized trout at 119 per mile. These are fish over 12ā. The largest Brown was 24ā while the largest Rainbow was 19.3ā. This specific location is the start of the Special Regulation section at Fork Run.
