sevntnth:
two of them, at least two more time lords were still alive. it was news the doctor had always hoped for, yet so hard to process. they’d all seemingly been dead because of her…but the master had survived too, it wasn’t that surprising to hear others had. “you stole a TARDIS too?” it made sense, a means to escape, a way of running away just like they had. perhaps it was a better one than their type 40, perhaps without the broken chameleon circuit…maybe they’d ended up in a better position than she had, but either way, they were all survivors. “yeah…yeah. let’s do that. how long have you been travelling? not like we’re likely to meet in the right order.”
“ah - yeah. i took my ship and went off-mission. pretty sure i would’ve been court-martialed if i ever went back.” NOT AN ISSUE ANYMORE would be far too callous to actually say, but they think it. maybe that’s cold. no - - - it absolutely is. STILL - the options were run or fight and they’d had enough of fighting, “both for the deserting and the stealing military property,” a hand pats the laser blaster that hangs off a hip, another stolen item - alongside the entire armory inside the tardis designed for war that is now nearly a pleasure cruiser. they tip their head of dark waves towards the structure the tardis parked itself in and starts off towards it. “i’ve lost count, honestly. we left before the war got really terrible - i heard things, felt the tide turning, and ... cared more about getting my sister out of there than staying to fight.” they squint a little in thought, trying to count back in their head, “between ten and ... eighteen thousand? somewhere in there, i think. again, i’ve sort of let go of keeping my mental calendar up to date lately. you?”
timedeserted:
“YOU ARE-” fumbling for the words, andro settles for a simple irritated growl. hands twisting into frustrated claws, as if to strangle her sibling. instead, they station themselves at the other end of the console, and slam their hand down onto a button. “i… hate you…. so much,” punctuating each syllable with a flip of a switch, a pull of a plunger, or a twist of a knob. they don’t mean a word of it, of course. well, only a little, in the way one is allowed to hate their family. “fine?! how about you dangle from the rafters sometime, see how fine you are!”
“yeah, yeah, i know.” there’s no urgency in their voice as they flip another switch, the sound of the tardis purring happily filling the room as it starts up, “LOVE YOU TOO.” there’s a mischievous smile on their face and they shrug before stepping back from the console ; nothing else to do now but wait. “oh, come ON. you’re not hurt, you got to have a lovely little nap hanging out up there! you had a free hand, even, could’ve taken a few shots instead of letting me do all the work.” they’re JOKING, but the fact they’re delighting in her minimal pain and maximum frustration is more than obvious.
viatcr:
by far the greatest pleasure of the woods is the quietness that permeates her travels. solitude ( and snowfire ) make for good companions, something that makes letha adept at her position. for now it is her horse’s footsteps and her own as she leads them down the trail, giving a much earned rest to the white stallion. it is a swivel of snowfire’s ears in her periphery alerts her to another presence —a presumed deer for a moment before there’s a voice, too loud for the seclusion she’s been wrapped in for the past few days since her last stop in a village. they come to a halt, horse and dismounted rider, and letha peers at the odd stranger, not reaching for a dagger, though she feels its weight against her leg all the more acutely. wariness permeates her as it does for most strangers on the road, but there’s no nagging feeling like she ought to have drawn a weapon instead. “ we are far from any village — ” she begins, not uncourteously, voice quiet in comparison, a little rough from misuse. “ — do you know where you wish to go ?? ”
they bounce on the heels of their boots - too tall for wherever and whenever they all, none of the captain’s clothes quite blend in with what the stranger is wearing ( always hard when you first arrive somewhere, before you know for certain what the style is ). hopefully they can just pass it off as being...from a different country or something. different land, maybe? the captain smiles and tips their head. “the nearest town. or - - - village, i suppose. you said we’re far - how far is that? a few hours or a few days?” not that it much matters ; they don’t have any sort of time limit on this situation, no real plans - not that they EVER have much of a plan these days beyond the moment they are in. “that doesn’t change the answer. nearest town, village, or city.”
“SORRY, hey!” their voice carries maybe a touch TOO LOUD through the quiet lane, head tipped and a hand cupped ‘round their mouth to project all the way to the approaching figure of @viatcr down the dirt path. the tardis is hidden away among the trees on one side in the form of a particularly thick-trunked maple and the captain doesn’t want to wander TOO far, but they aren’t just going to stand about on the side of the road all day. “i think i’m a little lost!”
@timedeserted said ; ❝ you left me hangin’ up there for 20 minutes. not bloody optimal. ❞ ( accepting )
“SORRY!” they very much are not, too busy flipping switches and throwing levers on the console to offer any actual consolation for letting their sibling quite literally dangle for twenty minutes. LISTEN - - - some sacrifices have to be made, and andro was perfectly safe up there! if there had been any real danger ondru would have worked harder to get them down safely. “you were FINE, anyways! i’m the one who had to do all the shooting while you HUNG OUT.”
sevntnth:
angst prompt: “ you should move on. i did. ” sent by @timedeserter!
“it’s not that easy,” the doctor breathed, the words playing over and over again in their head. move on. how could they ever? they were always good at pushing things to the back of their mind, ignoring memories that might hurt…but in the back of her mind, especially in moments like this? oh, she’d always remember the time war. when faced with other time lords, after all this time, it was impossible to forget. “but you…you weren’t there! not in the end. not when i…” she cut off sharply, eyes closing. images flashed behind her eyelids, memories she wished she’d forgotten millennia previously. “you didn’t see how it all played out. and i thought everyone was gone! i thought i was the only one left. is it just you?”
maybe it isn’t. they wouldn’t know. THEY RAN before it got that bad, stole their battle tardis and their sister and fled. it isn’t that they’re fleeing anymore, more that there’s no anchor for them to return to - - - they wouldn’t have been able to go back to gallifrey even if the doctor hadn’t done what she had. “you did what you had to.” it’s an easy response for them, one they say to themself constantly - YOU DID WHAT YOU HAD TO, AND YOU’RE STILL HERE NOW. it’s a mantra that might not quite be good enough, but it’s close. “i took the artificer with me. she’s - uh,” they think about it, “i mean, i told her to stay in the tardis, but,” they shrug, smile a little, “doubt she listened. wanna come along, see if she’s in there?” the tardis is in the shape of some sort of cabinet that the captain hasn’t quite placed.
timedeserted:
“STOP! STOP IT! I’M DELICATE!” she comes up just past ondru’s shoulder in these regenerations of theirs. her older sibling had always been the better fighter, even when they were just children wrestling in their parents’ estate. dark eyes land on a possible weapon with which to defend themself. a wrench not yet put away since the latest bout of maintenance to the console. grabbing it off of its resting place on the console, she whirls around, holding it above her head as if to throw it. or give a solid whack. “you get away from me, you! pick on someone your own size!”
“DELICATE?” they echo her, laughing as their voice tries to lilt into the same squeak that it had sounded to their ears. ondru knows her well enough to know what the darting of dark eyes means - - - looking for a weapon of some such to threaten them with, no doubt about it. they have to act FAST. ondru darts to the side and snaps up their discarded jacket - the second the tool is brandished they THROW the fabric at her, hoping to cover her in it. “there’s no one my own size here, so you’ll have to do!”
@timesense said ; I’ve changed my mind. ( accepting )
“what’s new?” they aren’t TRYING to be mean! it just seems to the captain that CHANGING ONES MIND is a constant in most creatures - forgetting why they wanted to do something else in the first place, or thinking it through just a little bit longer and realizing HEY, THIS IS A BETTER IDEA. the captain leans against the semi-ajar open of their tardis and glances over their shoulder back inside ; the engineer has vanished somewhere into the depths of the craft. “so, are you coming or what?”

“alien thing.” the captain has their head tilted towards alice, voice pitched low so the giggling pair of aliens doesn’t overhear. the perils of bringing humans around to intergalactic spa complexes for some pampering is having to navigate the way things simply don’t translate - even with the translation circuit doing its thing. “they think your hands are weird. well, our hands, i suppose. five fingers instead of three,” they gesture with the frothy, oddly bright green drink in their hand to one of the hands of the aliens as they depart, still laughing. “you’ll get used to it, probably! happens pretty often.”
@sevntnth said ; please tell me you are not about to do something unbelievably stupid. ( accepting )
“i wouldn’t call it UNBELIEVABLY stupid,” the captain flashes a grin, hand poised on the grate they’re in the process of wiggling out of place, “in fact, i think you’ll find it wholly BELIEVABLE.” listen, they try to stay out of trouble, they really do. the whole delving into everyones problems and trying to fix them and making them your problem too isn’t really the captain’s THING - - - pointed look at present company - - - but now that they’re here they might as well. what is it humans say? WHEN IN ROME, DO WHAT THE ROMANS DO? “you’re gonna owe me one for even getting involved in all this mess, truly.”
DOCTOR WHO: DAY OF THE DOCTOR sentence meme. feel free to change context/pronouns/etc as necessary.
Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.
Have you been running?
Next time, would it kill you to knock?
Why shouldn’t I have a job? I’d be brilliant at having a job.
This is my job. I’m doing it now.
There’s one life I’ve tried very hard to forget.
Soldier, I’m going to need your gun.
Please. Please, just don’t.
Don’t sit on that!
It’s from your past. Or possibly your future. I always get those two mixed up.
I don’t have a future.
If you do this, if you kill them all, then that’s the consequence. You live.
One day you will count them. One terrible night.
Okay, I wasn’t expecting that.
Tell me why I’m wasting my time on you.
This face has seen conflict, it’s as clear as day.
Oh, I’ve seen conflict like you wouldn’t believe.
I never know when to stop.
We’re being attacked by a shape-shifting alien from outer space, formerly disguised as my horse.
I’ll hold it off. You run.
Oi, you. Are you sciency?
Who is this man?
Oh, he’s cool. Isn’t he cool? I’m [NAME] and I’m all cool.
Probably a good time to run.
Yeah, I’m getting the point, thank you.
Can you come back through?
How can you forget this?
You. How can you be here? More to the point, why are you here?
Am I having a midlife crisis?
Ah, yes. Now that you mention it, that is witchcraft. Yes, yes, yes. Witchy witchcraft.
Am I talking to the wicked witch of the well?
Why am I the witch?
Would you mind telling these prattling mortals to get themselves begone?
Right. Prattling mortals! Off you pop or I’ll… turn you all into frogs.
You don’t seem to be kneeling. How tremendously brave of you.
Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?
Shall we ask for a better quality of door so we can escape?
What is it that makes you so ashamed of being a grown up?
Oh, the way you look at me. What is that? I’m trying to think of a better word than dread.
I can’t remember if I’m lying about my age, that’s how old I am.
Tell me, what would be the point?
I moved on.
Where? Where can you be now that you can forget something like that?
Is something funny? Did I miss a funny thing?
Oh goodness, you’re not actually dead. Oh, that’s tremendous news.
Is there a lot of this in the future?
Oh, you’ve redecorated. I don’t like it.
Lock the door. I’m afraid we can’t be interrupted. You don’t mind if I get comfortable?
To save the world, yes, I would.
Please tell me you are not about to do something unbelievably stupid.
I’m a time traveller, figure it out.
Sadly, we can only agree to die.
Please. Please save us. Please save us.
You tell yourself it’s justified, but it’s a lie.
You’re very sure of yourself.
He regrets it. I see it in his eyes every day. He’d do anything to change it.
Then, all things considered, it’s time I grew up.
Great men are forged in fire. It is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame, whatever the cost.
That sound brings hope wherever it goes.
There isn’t anything we can do.
There isn’t another way. There never was.
We’ve got enough warriors. Any old idiot can be a hero.
What was the promise?
I’ve changed my mind.
At worst, we failed doing the right thing, as opposed to succeeding in doing the wrong.
It has been an honour and a privilege.
I won’t remember this, will I?
That’s how the story ends. Nothing we can do about it.
How did you know?
I always know.
I’m going the long way ’round.

the captain is a total ass like a good 90% of the time because they think its funny. im so sorry. they will be a little mean and more than a little condescending and sort of snide bc then they get to go to the engineer and talk abt the situation and make goofs abt the silly little idiots they speak so im so sorry they’re MEAN
