She had gotten knocked around a little, but nothing was broken. Stephen had taken the brunt of the worst blow by shoving her out of the way. He may have been more used to pain, but that didn’t mean that she wanted to leave him to suffer.

“That is more than just a scratch.” She used a bit of her shirt to wipe away the blood to get a look at it, and then held up a hand to use her own magic to encourage the gash to heal. “I would say that you need stitches, but I think you would try to do it yourself.” Silly stubborn sorcerer.

     The girl knew him all too well, though they hadn’t really been around each other long. She was a gifted girl, he would be the first to admit it, her own powers similar to the Mystic Arts he’d trained in, though they were not received the same way. But she had grown through her past, and of that he commended her.

      As the magic brushed over his skin to clean away the blood, Stephen allowed his eyes to close for a moment. Unlike when Wong would help to tend to his injuries, something about Wanda’s magic felt different. 

         “ Perhaps I would, if my hand had the steadiness it used to, ” he answered, opening his eyes after a moment to look at her.

       Stephen didn’t move for a moment, more worried about her general health than his own. He’d experienced pain many times before, to the point he was almost numb to it. Her, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as hardened to it. Sure, she had experienced loss, as he’d heard the stories, but had never brought them up to her. It was a pain most kept to themselves, choosing not to share with strangers. 

       At her instance, the sorcerer finally gave in, turning to fully face her, showing the rather large gash on the side of his face, that ran from his temple down to his cheek. He hardly felt it, the only thing cluing it in to him being there, was the sticky sensation the crimson liquid left as it ran down his face.

                “ I’m alright, Wanda. It’s just a scratch, nothing more. I’ll survive. ”

Tony  wasn’t  used  to  seeing  Strange  smile  like  that,  it  looked  efffortless  and  he  couldn’t  help  but  wonder  why  he  didn’t  get  to  see  it  more  often.  Then  again  he  wasn’t  one  for  smiling  either  at  the  best  of  times. 

“  You  do  look  a  little  like  your  plotting  something  but  it’s  a  good  look,  it’s pretty  hot. ”  Tony  grinned  from  ear  to  ear  as  he  stepped  towards  the  sorcerer  and  rested  his  hands  on  his  knees.  “ Whatever  you’re  reading  is  clearly  very  entertaining -  its  not  the  karma  sautra  is  it? ” 

     The sorcerer chuckled, eyes rolling slightly from behind his book. It was a typical Tony response, something Stephen expected from the other male. He did always seem to be good about making most things light hearted. It was one thing Stephen liked about the engineer.

     “ What would make you even think I own that book, Tony? The fact that I live in the Sanctum? ” the sorcerer asked, raising a brow as he brought the book from his face to look at Tony. Though his tone seemed serious, his face was anything but, that same smile still resting on his lips.

    Stephen could only laugh softly at the comment that left Tony’s lips, shaking his head slightly as he went back to reading the book he’d brought with him. If he was honest, the sorcerer didn’t even realize he had even been smiling. Then again, he never really saw his own face while he was reading.

     He couldn’t help it. It was a really good book, and not his usual magic books either. This was actually recreational reading, not work related.

     “ When I smile people think there’s something wrong with me. Which is why I try not smile around people. That or they think I’m plotting something, since I look so serious all the time. ”

To  leave  Stephen  there  alone  felt  wrong,  sure  he  would  have  had  visitors  but  Tony  still  owed  him  his  life -  in  a  sense  they  had  a  bond  he  didn’t  have  with  anyone  else.  It  was  his  duty  to  make  sure  the  Doctor  was  alright  whether  he  wanted  him  to  be  there  or  not.  Tony  sat  himself  up  as  he  watched  Stephen  slowly  but  surely  come  around  from  his  past  state.  The  Doctors  had  said  he  was  stable  but  he  was  in  no  condition  to  leave  yet.

“ Careful,  take  it  easy.  I’ll  get  your  water. ”  They’d  just  changed  it  so  it  should  have  been  nice  and  cold.  Standing  himself  up  he  grabbed  the  plastic  cup  and  poured  the  water  into  it  before  handing  the  cup  over  to  Stephen.  “ There  you  go.  Just  sip  it  slowly. ”  It  felt  a  little  odd  to  be  telling  a  past  Doctor  what  to  do  but  he  was just  trying  to  look  out  for  him,  right?  With  that  Tony  sat  himself  back  down. “ You’re  not  getting  any  booze  for  a  while  unfortunately. ”

Tony  watched  him  with  clear  concern  etched  onto  his  features. How  long  before  their  time  ran  out?  They  were  all  playing  and  living  dangerously  being  heroes.

“ What  happened?  How’d  you  end  up  like  this? ”  He’d  been  wanting  to  ask  him  since  he’d  found  him,  now  was  his  chance.  “ I  didn’t  want  to  leave  you  alone,  didn’t  seem  fair,  plus  I  heard  Doctors  make  the  worst  patients  so  I  figured  I  better  stick  around. ”

     As the cup was handed to him, Stephen gladly took it with a nod of thanks, inwardly chuckling at Tony’s words of drinking slowly, but was thankful the other cared none the less. True, he already knew what he was being told, but he didn’t state this to Tony. The engineer was just trying to be helpful, something that Stephen appreciated greatly. Very people, excluding Wong of course, would even think of telling the sorcerer how to care for himself, knowing he’d been a doctor in the past.

          “ I think I could do without the alcohol right now, ”  Stephen responded with a smile, laughing for a moment before cutting off with a small groan of pain. It didn’t look like he would be laughing anytime soon either, if that small amount hurt the way it did.

    The question of what he’d been doing, well Stephen expected as much. If he hadn’t been in the state he had when Tony had found him, the sorcerer was sure he would have questioned himself about it then.

         “ Something came through the multiverse into the Sanctum. I had to deal with it and unfortunately I was the only one there. I was... overpowered long enough for the creature to injure me the way it did, stabbed me with a claw or something I think. When it thought I was down and turned to find something else, I managed to take it out, but you see what the end result ultimately was. ”

      The voice cut through the sorcerer’s thoughts, Stephen slowly turning his head to look at the other male as he climbed on to the roof. Normally, the unexpected visit would take him by surprise, but this was tony after all, the man seemed to have a hardline running all over the city, and to top that off his wasn’t even as his own home. For some reason, Stephen just wanted to be at the Avenger Tower, or Stark Tower, or whatever it went by now. The view of the sky... it was breathtaking to the sorcerer, much better than what he could see from the Sanctum roof.

      There had been a reason for his visit as well. He... He wanted to check on Tony. After the result of fighting the mad Titan, what Tony had to go through. Stephen felt responsible. What if he could have prevented it, view more alternate endings to the conflict. Surely... there would have been another one that didn’t involve Tony going through what he did.

       The words were spoken quietly, a small amount of shame detected in his voice. In the eleven months, almost a year, that it took Tony to recover from what happened, Stephen had drawn in on himself. Of course he still did he job as the Sorcerer Supreme, but other than that, Stephen remained in his room, closed off from the rest of the world. It wasn’t until he heard that Tony had returned from the US from Wakanda, that he finally was able to bring himself out from the Sanctum walls. But tonight, this was the first time he’d seen Tony since then.
