Her green outfit was originally sleeveless, but the final chapter has that same outfit but with long sleeves. Feels like she's essentially retreating and hiding herself even further.

Meguri and Sotsu

Spoilers for the Final Meguri chapter:

So apparently, if what Eua said near the end is to be taken seriously, apparently Meguri happened before Sotsu, at least via the Sea of Fragment passage of time. So Meguritoko's journey ended in boredom for Eua, but Sotsutoko's journey was the most exciting. Huh.

I already miss Witchtoko. She quickly became one of my favorite loopers.

Higurashi Meguri Satoko final thoughts

Looking over the final chapter again and reading some of the reddit comments on said chapter...

Satoko looked aimless. She is living without a purpose now, more than ever. Or maybe she lives with a feeling of anxiety at the back of her throat. Unlike in Sotsu, where Satoko and Witchtoko had a sort of 'split' which in the end allowed them to take their own paths, Meguritoko didn't feel like she had any revelation or emotional maturity.

She doesn't know if she can loop, so she is stuck in this "Half-Witch Half Human" state. She is both Satoko and Witchtoko and neither at the same time. Satoko's heart has grown tired and weary, so now she's going through life like a paper would in the wind.

That's at least my take. My own headcanon is that Eua sees Sotsutoko as a 'success' and Meguritoko as a 'failure'. One gained independence both in human and witch form, the other is now wandering through life weightlessly.

Final Higurashi Meguri Chapter Raw Analysis

Spoilers, also, reminder I can barely read Japanese. Couldn't read any here.

I'm going to miss Witch Satoko. Something about her character just struck with me. Doubt she'll ever have another story medium, but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

I don't know if the author did this on purpose, but I warmed up to the idea that there was never an Eua-Rika confrontation. It's like Eua finds Rika too boorish.

Eua is also basically the devil on Satoko's shoulder and no one else's. Just like how Hanyu and Rika have a special bond, so do Eua and Satoko (albeit a very twisted one).

This chapter is essentially "Satoko moves on from her fear of the future and lives with the club". There was no uncle to be seen, which is something I would've liked to have seen expanded on more.

Ending is mostly meh. A lot of ideas from Sotsu either changed or thrown away. I would've liked seeing the split scene happen in Meguri, though that didn't happen either.

The story got too stuck in the school for the conclusion to feel satisfying. I'd like to think the journey mattered a little more than the ending.

I'd give Meguri a 6/10. It starts strong but loses a lot of momentum near the end.

Possibly the last of Antagonist Satoko...

In four days, it's possible we'll be getting the last piece of official medium of anything Evil/Witch/Antagonist Satoko-related. (Apart from maybe the gacha, but I don't really count that). As much as I'd love a Satoko-centric VN, I doubt we'll ever get that, especially since Ciconia exists.

I'll miss that angry crazy little gremlin.

There's very few really good Higurashi Gou-era fanfiction...mostly centered around Witch Satoko. Sighhhh. I would write one myself but I don't think I'd really capture Satoko's personality very well.

Higurashi Meguri Raw Analysis 19.1

Welp, this chapter was very long. Woah.

Putting a bracket for spoilers.

Reminder, my Japanese is VERY surface level.

So Shion remembers a lot of Satoko's fragments. Their bond is very heartwarming, even if, at the moment, Satoko can't appreciate it.

We're still in the school so like...yeah. Lol.

So...Satoshi is back. Yeah. I get that he was necessary, but just pulling him out like this keeps making him feel like a plot point.

I do very much like that the group is trying to help Satoko even through her attempt at killing them. Hardly anyone is that good-natured.

At the same time, I can't help but feel very horrible for Satoko. She tried her best to bring the group together during her 'trial' fragments to stave off tragedy but couldn't convince them, while Rika is successful (which I can't help but feel is because of her status in Hinamizawa).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but there had always been this power structure and Satoko is at the very bottom.

Man, Satoko's life sucks. Whether she's a human or a looper.

I wonder if the author is going to bring Eua into this?

These are just my surface thoughts with a surface level Japanese comprehension. I might like the chapter more once I can actually read it in English.

Sotsu/Meguri Satoko is

Satoko at her darkest. She was from a "Happy End" fragment, but the circumstances of Rika's own happiest ending were very hostile to Satoko.

Rika's happy ending was Satoko's worst nightmare. Two best friends separated by differing points of view. The princess and the black sheep.

Beautifully tragic.

I wonder how Rika views the Looper Satoko. Does she prefer the human Satoko, or the Witch that can understand her experiences? Or does she see no difference between the two?

I know Witchtoko sees her own human self as a separate entity (at least Sotsu does), but Rika might be different in that case.

OG Satoko and Witchtoko in terms of traps

I'd like to think that because Witchtoko has become heavily reliant on her looping abilities, her actual trap-making skills have become weaker. It's like having an aimbot installed on a game like Halo, but your own movement is terrible.

OG Satoko, on the other hand, only has one life, one instance to create the perfect trap, so she puts a whole lot more attention to detail compared to Witchtoko.

Meguri Satoko in the latest arc was very straightforward, having implemented basically no traps in the school apart from a gun and the shard.

If she still had the same trap mentality as OG Satoko, there would have been several traps that would have captured Rika and stopped her from running. I guess she did place spikes by the staircase, but that was it.

If OG Satoko and Witchtoko were ever in the same fragment but as different people, I could see Witchtoko constantly get ensnared by OG Satoko's rope traps. She would also cringe at OG Satoko's naivety.

Kind of like an edgy big twin sister versus a hyper hurricane of a little twin sister.

Honestly I have no idea what I was getting at.

Higurashi Meguri 18.4 Raw Analysis

As usual, take what I say with a grain of salt since I have very bad Japanese reading skills. Like seriously bad.

We're still at the school. It has been, what, over half a year now? Maybe more? That and we won't get another chapter until December 1st. Technically November 30th at 7 PM my time.

Anyways, what I liked about this chapter is that Satoko basically states that Rika's happy future is not Satoko's happy future. That Rika has forgotten about Satoshi. That no matter what choices Satoko made, everyone died.

Another con, at least for me:

Satoko being unable to use the shard was because of Rika's own doing. Apparently she switched it out for a fake. Which is a really weird choice since Rika genuinely looked terrified when Satoko took out the shard.

It's this sort of inconsistent writing that really takes me out of the story.

Remember, some details might be wrong since my Japanese reading skills are very subpar.

Just a PMMM headcanon

I'd like to think the reason why Homura no longer wears her magical girl outfit in the new Walpurgis trailer is because she feels she has outgrown it. As a Deity, the magical girl outfit is just too constraining. Too small.

Or maybe wearing that outfit reminds her too much of the loops. She's finally free from Walpurgisnacht, so what reason does she have to wear such a horrifically familiar outfit?

Homura and her Clara Dolls

How does Homura respond to her Clara Dolls?

Does she see them as family, vermin, or simple servants?

I know the Clara Dolls hated Homulilly, but they respect Homucifer. I think this is especially evident in the newest trailer, since there is a slight chorus of children referring to Homura as "Akuma-sama" (in English this would be Lady Devil or Mistress Devil).

I'd like if Homura were to start seeing them as sort of family. The more she grows to like herself, the more the Clara Dolls become "benevolent".

That's just my wish. I don't view Clara Dolls as simple familiars.
