==> Dave: Make it on time.
Strangely enough, you were always punctual when it came to this sort of thing. Give a time and a place and you'd be there, on the dot. That was nothing new, and any attempt in trying to hide it by being fashionably late (or early) was given up a long time ago. Nobody was convinced, not even you.
Even with you perfect record, you made certain that you would definitely not be late to this ‘date’ above all else. Although as you shuffled through crowds of business men and women and distressed mothers dragging their children along the streets, you were starting to wonder if today would be the day the Big Man gives you the finger. At this point, it would probably be a good idea to just –
> Run.
You take the cheap pair of white headphones hanging around your neck and quickly slide them over your ears. The ipod tucked away in your jeans pocket is silenced for a moment, before it begins to play something slightly more appropriate. After a quick glance over your shoulder and then the streets up ahead, you pick up the pace start weaving your way through the crowds, somehow managing to only bump into a distracted pedestrian once.
Twice.
Okay, three times. But that last guy practically walked into you!
> Stop a block from your destination.
Somehow, you manage to skid to a stop without causing much damage to you or anybody else around you. Couldn’t say the same for the heels of your pair of red and run-down converse, but they have seen worse days. Now that you weren’t too far from the café, you might as well take a stroll the rest of the way there, seeing as you were sure you still had some time to spare. It also gave you some time to catch your breath, which you sure as hell need right about now. When you were calm, cool and collected, your feet slowly picked up again to take you to the café, where you would meet your best friend, John Egbert, like you usually do.
And it is not a date.
No matter how much you secretly wish it was.
> Spot his doofy self sitting by the window.
You clear your throat to keep the thought from straying farther, but your steps subconsciously become livelier the moment you see him sitting at the usual spot, waiting for you.
Yep.
> SNAP OUT OF IT, STRIDER.
You are way ahead of that. The next thing you know you’re pushing the door of the café open and sliding the headphones off your ears, and your hands retreat to the pockets of your jeans only seconds after. Your head almost immediately turns to look in John’s direction, and your feet then follow suit. You plop down onto the seat in front of him and lean back, already getting comfortable.
TG: hope i didnt keep you waiting
TG: you wouldnt believe the traffic accidents outside the baskin robbins
Behind the shades, your eyes shift to glance at the clock hanging on the wall. You almost smirk after confirming that you are, in fact, right on time.
