It's discouraging to find out that vocab I thought I had mastered is now forgotten.
local college student realizes that studying two languages at once requires studying twice the amount of grammar and vocab
Sometimes I get the urge to learn a language just cuz it has a pretty writing system
starting to learn to write Mandarin by hand: "all those characters are so different!"
knows a few characters: "that's wonderful! once I know how to write a component in a character, it's easier to write other characters with the same component! So much easier than I thought!"
learning many more characters: "wait a minute, is that the right component or am I writing a similar character that isn't the actual character I want to write because I mixed up the components again?"
My problem with being an introvert in linguistics and language is that I’m here to study conversation scientifically like it’s a biological function of a different species.
And then they make me go to conversation classes and talk to people.
Like no I want to study the talking, I don’t want to DO the talking
me: gets diagnosis in processing, learning and memorisation difficulties
also me: gets the processing learning and memorisation hobby (Langauage)
Furiously googling "how to learn 3 languages at once"

You need to be looking for sewing and drawing tutorials in Spanish, to watch baking tutorials in Russian or read the wikipedia article about the insect you've just discovered on your balcony in German ! You cannot watch Peppa pig in your target language forever.
Will knowing how to say "aiguille à tricoter" in French be useful for your exam ? Probably not, but who cares ? You're listening to spoken French AND you're learning a manual skill !
Youtube is full of wonderful tutorials in many languages, everything is there just waiting for you ...
And why stop at manual skills ? Philosophy ? History ? Astrology ? Hop hop hop, in your target language ! Want to learn something about Egypt ? The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has a coursera course on it.
"But I won't understand anything" I personally prefer to understand 20% of a lecture about a sacred temple in the middle of the desert than understand 60% of the most boring standard "what do you like to eat for breakfast" textbook learning material.
I should start bringing the laptop with me to the depression nap.

wonders of multilingualism is having explanations written different languages ✨

introduction post!!!
大家好🧡, 我叫维克托,我张贴在这博客我的进展在学中文。🧡
Hello everyone, I'm Viktor, I will be posting on this blog my progress in learning Chinese 🧡
My username is based off of Ethel Cain's song, Onanist, highly recommend I love it 💙
Also I love orange and blue as a color combo so that's the theme for this blog 💙
I've been learning Chinese on and off for a few months now, but have decided to make this blog to keep me motivated as I've not made any real progress because I keep losing track. 💙
That's all I really have to put in my introduction post for now, but I won't just be posting my Chinese learning progress (though I will try to keep it somewhat mostly about that), I will also post aesthetic moodboards and just random stuff about my life.

I despise silence. It makes my brain go haywire in ways that I can't really deal with. Which means that at any given moment there is either a show or podcast or music running, so I can drown out the horrors and actually do something.
But it also got me thinking lately: If I already have a constant stream of (mostly) people talking about stuff, then why not use it for getting more familiar with the languages I wanna learn? Sure I don't actively listen most of the time, but it's not like I don't pick up some things here and there.
Gonna do this only a day or two a week cause I'll run out of media really fast.
