It's really easy to merge Fight club into The lego movie because all you need to do is make Emmet slightly more aware of just how corrupted Bricksburg is

He follows all the rules, the city routine, makes sure he is extremely likable and agreeable yet he still never manages to feel valued

But it's only after he meets Wyldstyle that his "ideal citizen" life starts completely falling apart.

(She gave up on the prophecy a long time ago, but despite it still refusing to give into the life President business promotes, especially since her song is the one used to manipulate the general population)

Similar to the lego movie, he sees her sneaking around the construction site after he accidentally stayed behind, he hesitates but ends up reporting her for suspicious behavior. But instead he finds himself cuffed in the police station getting interrogated as if he was some kind of criminal, he finally realizes not even living a perfect honest life will give you a benefit when being faced with the corrupt justice system (blatantly unaware of the whole prophecy thing)

He slowly starts to doubt himself. Was this really the life he always dreamed of? But instead of standing up for himself, he subconsciously creates Rex

Rex is a combination of his thoughts, his want to fight back against the script, his need to prove he isn't just another pawn in the unjust system and his bottled up questioning of his sexuality in the heteronormative society

Rex is everything he isn't and all he wants

But the story doesn't revolve around him finding the Kragle cap and following a prophecy
