Harry turned his attention back to her, as if top say something- but his brain had seemingly gone blank trying to think of something… anything to say. He knew he needed to say something, tell her that he liked it- tell her that he didn’t want her to go, but none of it would come to the surface. Where had that even come from? Maybe it was a shallow judgement- but he hadn’t really thought Hermione Granger of all people would be capable of… that.

Now he needed to know more.

Harry glanced down at her hand on his chest, and then looked up to protest further- but he can’t bring himself to talk, what the hell is wrong with him? After a moment he just nodded in return “Uh, Okay. A breather might be good for both of us.” he shrugged, grateful that he could finally make something comer out of his mouth.

Silence, though it wasn’t uncomfortable, filled the space between them and he raised an eyebrow in thought before sitting back down. “So um… Do you just wanna beet on the station or are you coming back?” Surprisingly he found himsaelf wanting her to come back, “You could- I mean if you wanted… Ill save you a seat?”

She already feels like she's ruined things here, especially when he takes a seat and then feels like he has to ask her if she's coming back. It feels like a punch to the gut, and she shakes her head and finds herself verbally vomiting all over him. He doesn't deserve any of this, but other than overthinking, she has a bad habit of talking too much.

“Harry, I want to be in here with you. I was enjoying kissing you even, I just feel like I'm overwhelming you and that's not my intention,” she starts, taking a deep breath and then shaking her head. “I know this isn't a real relationship though, and I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable. You're doing me this huge favor, and I don't want you to feel taken advantage of. I'm not leaving for good, I'm just trying to give you a little space...from me. I'm coming back.”

Hermione hopes that doesn't scare him off, but at least it's not a confession. She's certain that if she admitted she was developing a huge crush on him right now, then that would scare him off. The last thing that she wanted to do was push him away, and so she hoped that he would just understand what she was saying to him.

“I'll bring us back some chocolate frogs, okay?”

Harry had tried to keep his excitement in check- he couldn’t help it though, he had dreamed of being a dad since he was sixteen- a hope he had squashed in sixth year because he was sure he was going to die, but during the hunt Hermione had slowly broken down every worry and every doubt he’d had until one day they were married and she was shoving a pregnancy test in his face. Truthfully the entire thing felt surreal- but he cherished the memory of her holding that test, he had felt happy enough to light an entire block with his patrounus.

So naturally, he hovered- Harry wanted nothing more than to provide for her, and to make sure she was getting what she needed not only from him but just in general- honestly he wouldn’t be shocked if it was annoying, but her didn’t ask her- Hermione was more than capable of telling him if he was being too much.

Merlin he hadn’t realized how badly he needed everything to go right.

So, naturally, when Hermione’s voice comes ringing through the room he nearly drops the tea, but he’s known Hermione since he was eleven years old and he knows her tone means its not serious- but he still levitates the tea and has it follow him as he dashed back into the bedroom, he’s half way there when he hears her laugh- something unclenching in him as he stepped into their bedroom, his hands folded under his chest.

“You bloody scared me, y’know?”

She hadn't expected for him to freak out, but she supposed her words were easier to catch than her tone, and she gets up as he comes in, waddling over to him. A laugh bubbled out of her as she helps him with the tea and then quickly reaches for his hand to place it on her belly.

“Feel that? Right...there! That's our son,” Hermione beams, her head tilting to the side momentarily. “More than that, I swear he's a little too strong for his own good.” Not because it hurts, but because he does seem to be kicking with force. It means he's there and he's present, and Hermione's just excited about this whole thing. She's wanted this for awhile, and to be able to experience it with Harry is her favorite part of it. “We have a fighter on our hands, but is that shocking?”

After all, they've always been fighters--they kind of had to be with the lives they led, and she kisses him tenderly. She loves this man before her, and she loves that the life in her belly is half her and half him and all a perfect baby boy she can't wait to meet. She wanted to know whose eyes he'd get, and if he'd be more her or Harry in temperament, but they'd have to wait.

“What do you think?”

Hermione has been pretty excited this whole pregnancy. Certainly, there had been morning sickness and ligament pains, but the cravings had been somewhat manageable because Harry was so attentive. He was constantly asking her what she needed from him, and while she didn't want to put him out, she did love that her husband was so attentive.

“Harry! Come quick!” she exclaims that morning after he's gone to grab her tea.

It's nothing too serious, the baby is just kicking, but it's the first time it has done that where he could potentially feel it, and she wants to make sure he gets the chance to. She's been getting to feel it a little for the last few weeks, but now that the baby is big enough to kick hard enough for Harry to feel too, it makes things more exciting. They're really having a baby, and Hermione could not be more thrilled.

“Are you really gonna make me get up and come to you?” Hermione calls out with a laugh, but she will if she needs to.

A shoulder rose up in a half shrug. "I'm not really sure. Maybe it's fulfilling for them to have a life of purpose, but they should still be treated well and paid for it. It should be a choice, not a demand. That's my view, at least. Sceleritas loves my father, however, and he... well, he seems to find acts of violence amusing?" Her brows knit, a troubled expression.

"Maybe reason to a witch isn't reason to an elf? Maybe what you see as freedom isn't what they think freedom is." How to explain it? "I read this analogy once about zoo animals and people. Like, people want to free zoo animals, let them roam, but it'd be pretty weird if someone showed up to your house and shoved you onto the street saying you were free now, right?" There was a light cock of her head. "Maybe that's how House Elves are? This is their lives, it's what they know, so maybe it doesn't feel very freeing to be pushed into other things."

Hermione had experienced first hand the amount of resistance that one could get from a House Elf about this particular subject. While a couple of them seemed almost swayed, too many of them thought this was their purpose. She just didn't understand that, but she had also seen cruelty from them as well. While she wants to blame their masters, she's not entirely sure that she can--it's just their mentality of where they stand on the supposed wizard food chain.

“I've been trying endlessly to get it sorted, and I'm not entirely sure that I can because of things like that,” Hermione explained, shaking her head a little bit. “There's a dream deep in my brain that perhaps one day a law will be passed that house elves will require proper wages and clothes and perhaps I'll spear head that, but for now...all I can do is try my best from here. I don't mind the loyalty aspect, it just...rubs me the wrong way. Not that any of my S.P.E.W. petitions have taken off either...”

Harry knows that he’s far too into this- this wasn’t the plan, they were supposed to be pretending to get her parents off her back. What exactly were they doing? His first instinct was to avoid it, but he also couldn’t help but wonder if that would make things award between them. Did she expect this level of pretending? Because with the way his heart was currently pounding in his chest he wasn’t so sure that he was pretending anymore.

That wasn’t good.

Then she lets out a moan he’s never heard, let alone imagined, and what is he supposed to do with that? They’re too far in- only Hermione finally comes to her senses and it’s in that moment he’s fully aware of how baldy he needs a cold shower. “Right…” He blinked, “Wait- why are you sorry?” It had been a good kiss- hadn’t it? The way she had moaned rang through his ears, wasn’t that a sign that she had liked it?

Oh.

Oh Harry was definitely going to need a cold shower after this, his cheeks turned bright red and he looked away, he hadn’t been expecting her to be this… forth coming, but he couldn’t say he hated it either, “I don’t- I don’t think you need to apolgize but uh.” Harry stood, putting his hand on her shoulder. “Stay. I’ll go, I’ll bring you back something from the cart if you want?”

“I'm sorry, because I'm literally trying to straddle you right now and if I hadn't realized that...” Well then she'd have been grinding against his lap and he'd have never let her live it down.

Still, for a moment she realizes that he's as flushed as she is. He was...was he enjoying it too? Was it just practice for him, or had he wanted her on his lap? It's confusing is what it is, and she's suddenly quite at a loss for words. The last thing that she needs is someone to accidentally walk in and start some rumor at the school when they got back about how she was all over Harry.

It's hard to find the words in the moment as she tries to replay the moment over in her head, but all that does is make her want him more. Because now all she can think about was how good it felt to have his tongue down her throat and it probably would have felt even better to have just let herself straddle him until he had figured it out, but then what? This wasn't real, right? Harry didn't have feelings for her, he was just getting a good deal out of this because she couldn't control herself...right?

“No, I'll go...” Hermione rests her hand on his chest and instantly regrets the contact for no reason other than she wants to kiss him again. “I need to take a breather, and it's the least I can do for trying to jump your bones. Just...sit, okay?”

Harry was stuck with her- that thought both filled him with undescribable happiness and dread, would she try to follow him when it finally happened? Would she… No, she had to live- Harry knew that if he was going to do what he knew he had to do then she had to live, he would never be able to knowingly put her in danger, it’s just now how his brain works. “Until the end.”

Harry was many things- rather impatient, moody, temperamental… But he also knew when to argue and when to let something go, and right now neither of them are up for a debate- that’s not what he wants to do, he just wants to make her feel better. Soon they’;ll be back on the road, and he doesn’t want her to be suffering when they did so.

“Her-” A reply starts, but before he can get it out she cuts him off with a kiss and his brain went blank. Words aren’t needed now- she’s trying to tell him something, and even he can’t miss the messaging. Her lips pressed against his and he wasted no time in returning the gesture- it’s spring outside so neither of them are exactly freezing but still a shudder runs through him as his hands grasp her top, keeping her close.

If anything, Harry wants her to know how he feels before he dies- he just hopes this kiss is enough.”

She's relieved when he kisses her back, Hermione pressing her body close to his on the bed and holding him close to her. This is Harry, and she just wants to be on the same page with him before they continue their descent into the madness that is cursed objects. So much of their lives have been dictated to them and taken from them, and while she supposes she could have walked away--of course she would never.

Hermione would go with Harry anywhere.

“You're the most important person in my life...” she smiles against his lips, fingers sliding up into his hair. “I should have done this better. I should have kissed you before now, but I need you to know, is all.”

How she feels, what she needs, and she hums against his lips as she kisses him again, nuzzling his nose with her own as she pulls back for a moment to look him in the eyes. She knows that this could end terribly for the both of them, but that's why she just wants everything out in the open that if one of them dies, there's nothing left unsaid. If they both die, then they can die knowing the truth and if by some miracle they survive then well...they can handle that when the moment comes.

“I love you, Harry...”

Harry has always loved that he could still make her blush, there’s something extremely flattering about that- he can’t begin to explain what it was… Maybe it was knowing she found him as attractive as he found her? Or maybe because it meant that no matter how much time changed, they were always going to be Harry and Hermione- there was no changing that at their core.

“Because it’s always been true.”

Admittedly he was glossing over the parts where he had never really thought twice about it- he had always known Hermione was a girl, but he had never taken much notice until fourth year when she had came to the ball. He could still remember seeing her come down those stairs…. It had been eye opening- but he hadn’t really acted on it until the hunt; forcing himself to focus on other girls because he had known Ron had a crush on her.

It had been bloody stupid.

It’s their first valentines day as a married couple, but truthfully he felt like it was just another Valentines, and that wasn’t a bad thing- he cherished every moment that he got to spend like this with her, after dying and coming back he had learned how to appreciate things… Like his best friend turned wife.

“You know, I just remembered that… you really do have all of the best ideas.” Harry replied with a smile- but it was his turn to blush slightly at her forwardness.

His agreement makes her smile a little bit, mainly because she was a little serious. He was her husband after all, and it wasn't like there were exactly innocent thoughts rumbling around in her head right now. After this, she very much wanted to take her husband home and make him forget his own name, so why not also try for a baby?

“I do have pretty brilliant ideas, don't I?” she asks, but she notes the blush creeping into his cheeks and she pauses for a moment. Biting her lip, she gives his hand a little squeeze. “Only if you want to. If you'd rather just have fun tonight, we can do that too, I just wanted to...”

For just a moment, the over-thinker inside of her wonders if maybe she's been just a little too forward. While he seems to typically like that, having kids is a big deal and she knows it shouldn't be decided just because she's in the mood. It's entirely possible that Harry just wanted to have sex with his wife tonight without this kind of added pressure and now she's a little worried.

She's also kind of enjoying the idea of starting a family, even if it's kind of cliche to do that on Valentine's Day. It's not really about the day per say, it's about how good things are with them these days and yes, she's in a mood--she can't deny this--but it's more than that and suddenly she feels the need to be more clear.

“Just because I'm ready doesn't mean you have to be. I don't mind waiting if you would rather, you know that, right?”

Harry had half expected her to call him a loon, if he was being completely honest, but she hadn’t and so far he was… happy about that. There was a heat spreading through his body that started in his chest that he hadn’t ever felt before, and the noise that came out of him? He didn’t even know he could do that- what the hell was happening? This is stupid, she can’t stand him- it’s physical attraction at best, they have nothing in common and…

And he wants to kiss her again.

“Practice is good.” Harry said softly, but then they’re kissing again and this has moved from practice to full on making out- his brain has short circuited, that’s the only explanation he can offer for what’s happening but he doesn’t care because it feels like a drug. Hearing his first name come out of her mouth just makes him want it more, and without thinking he slides his tongue forward- asking for permission to deepen the kiss- to make this something more than what they were pretending.

The last thing that Hermione had expected out of today, was to make-out with Harry Potter. This was just supposed to be a rouse to get her parents off her back and while logically it still made sense to her to be used to this kind of touch from him, did she expect them to just be making out most of the break? When would they be doing this? Certainly not in front of her parents!

Still, she feels his tongue and it's only natural to open her mouth, deepening the kiss and moaning in a way she never has before. She's far too into this kiss, especially as she starts to almost climb onto his lap for better leverage, and it's like suddenly she realizes she's practically trying to mount him in the train car. What is she doing?

“Merlin, I'm so sorry...” Hermione starts, pulling back suddenly, one leg over his lap.

She looks successfully snogged, honestly, with swollen lips and dilated pupils, and the way she's breathing this heavily has her flushing so red she's sure she's actually that exact primary color as she almost reluctantly gets off of him. Hermione doesn't want to get off of him, and it shows even as she shakes her head.

“It's highly inappropriate for me to be trying to ride you right now. You know what? I need to go...find...find the snack cart or something...”

Harry was relieved that she made him stop- it’s not that he didn’t like touching his wife, it was the exact opposite really- he had cover come his aversion to touch when it came to her. He snorted at her words, “Oh yeah? Auditioning to dethrone the Weasleys are you?” he asked curiously, sounding more amused than anything. He wanted 3, maybe 4 at most. They had both grown up only children, and at least for him he wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

But he also would never ask Hermione for more than hse was willing to give.

Their childhood had been spent doing that, Harry taking far more than he should have and Hermione giving far more than anyone could be asked too. “You’re beautiful.” Harry said softly, looking at her with a mixture of lust and adoration in his eyes- sometimes his emotional damage showed itself in the strangest of moments- but a mixture of mind healing and Hermione’s patience had helped him overcome it for the most part

With a smile he nudged her, “I know you’re going to spoil me- you’ve been doing it since we were kids. I love it, but I also like spoiling you sometimes too you know?” He shrugged before nodding. “Every day with you is a good day, haven’t I made that clear enough?”

“You always say that...” Hermione offers, but she blushes regardless because she does like it when her husband compliments her.

She's never been used to compliments like that, because she spent their childhood being the opposite of conventionally attractive--at least until that polyjuice potion went wrong and she let Madame Pomfrey use magic to alter the features she hated most when she was fixing it. Even then, Hermione wasn't sure until Viktor, but she tried to block such things out for Harry's sake. All that matters now is what Harry thinks, and what she thinks about herself and she enjoys the compliments.

Hermione smiles as she eats though, reaching over to take Harry's hand and hold it gently. She's been having a good day too, and she's glad he likes being in her company because she likes being in his too. It may be the first Valentine's Day as a married couple, but she kind of loves that for them. They're able to just multiply love they already had, and be playful and cute, and she smirks a little as she sips her water.

“You know, I had the craziest idea: you want to make a baby or something tonight?” Hermione mused aloud and while the tone was playful, there was a hint of seriousness to it. “Just an idea...”

Harry had, of course, thought about kissing Hermione- how could he not when he had become painfully aware that she was a girl, and not only was she a girl but she might be the one he loved… No, there was no doubt about it, he loved her; the kiss had settled something deep in his chest, some doubt he had been fighting since it had first crept into his mind. The idea both terrifies him and excites him, because she had kissed him.

He’s going to die and she’s kissed him.

Harry allows her to tug him towards the bed and gives her a small smile, he doesn’t need her to tell him that she’s welcome because honestly he would do anything for her. “You can hold me to anything you want.” Harry said softly, stiffening slightly at her request- not because he doesn’t want too, but because he doesn’t know how to do this.

Without a word his arms wrapped around her, pulling her to him- “I’ve got you.” Harry said quietly, is he getting her hopes up? He’s going to die, he knows that much- but he’s going to do his best to take Voldemort with him. “You’re my best friend Hermione, I’m not going anywhere.” he whispered quietly. “I won’t let anything happen to you. I swear.”

“You're my best friend too. No matter what happens from here on out, you're stuck with me.” Which was the truth of the matter. There was far too much to do and their job still wasn't done, and Hermione wanted to see it through regardless of all of this. This might have happened and it might have been horrible, but she wasn't a quitter. “I'm with you until the end, okay?”

She needed this, and she snuggles into him as he holds her close, knowing deep down that they're so close to the end that there shouldn't be secrets between them. There's nothing Hermione would rather do than forget about the torture she went through, and soon? Soon they'll be back to looking for horcruxes and destroying them, and she doesn't want to be like this.

Hermione doesn't want to be Harry's weak link.

More than that, Hermione doesn't want to keep anything to herself anymore, just in case neither of them make it. What is the point in feeling all of these things if they just take them to the grave? Perhaps it's the way his heart is beating and she can hear it as they lay there together like this, but perhaps it's also that there had been a moment with Bellatrix where Hermione thought that she was going to die...and she didn't want to keep anything from Harry anymore.

“Harry?” she asks gently, but she doesn't look him in the eye for very long before she kisses him again, this time more deliberately than before.

Harry felt immense guilt for avoiding her, and he didn’t know if he would really be able to do what theyu were doingf all the time- willingly hug her, but he wanted to help her. He wanted, merlin he wanted to take her pain away if he could. “Hermione…” His heart skips a beat when she asked him to stay with her. His grip on her tightened and he exhaled, because the truth was that this was his fault- all of this was his fault .

But he could fix it.

Hermione was crying and it was his fault- she had been tortured because of this stupid war that he had dragged her into. “Hey. Hey it’s okay.” He said softly, “I’m not going anywhere- I promise.” She had to be hurting, he remembered how it felt to have your skin cut and carved like an animal. Plus Cruico? He was far more familiar with that curse than just about anyone his age.

Harry had realized a long time ago he was in love with Hermione, even if he hadn’t known what to do with it or how to process that. It had hit him like a truck; but that was neither here or there. Following his instinct he ran a hand through her hair and closed his eyes, “I’m not going anywhere.” he promised softly – then she pulls back and kisses him, it’s wet and he has too many memories of fifth year (why do girls only kiss him when their crying).

But her head is soon buried into his neck again and he was left standing there, holding his best friend and unable to comprehend what had just happened. “I’m never leaving your side again.” he promised softly.

She knows that's not how their first kiss should have gone, but there's so many emotions swirling through her and this is Harry. Harry, who she loves more than anything, but doesn't know how to say it. Now, she's distressed, and she'd needed him to stay close, and she knows she'll have to make it up to him. At least he's staying, and that's what she needs the most right now.

“Thank you...” she whispers, before she tugs him to the bed with her.

Hermione wants to lay down, and she wants to forget all of the terrible things they've gone through for just a little while. That spell has done a number on her, but she still has to find a way to get through a whole lot more because there's more to do. There's horcruxes to finish hunting down and she needs to be able to focus on that so she isn't a liability to Harry.

That's the last thing she wants to be.

“I might hold you to that,” she whispers, knowing that they're all supposed to be healing before they head out on their own again, but she can't bear the thought of him leaving her right now. She doesn't want to think about torture, or death, or any of the terrible things that might still be left to come. Hermione just wants to lie here with Harry and is that really so bad? “Would holding me be a strange request?”

The idea of being tucked away in their own little corner of the universe was nice… Honestly he didn’t know why it sounded so appealing about disappearing from the world with someone who until recently had been nothing but an annoyance. “That sounds… nice. I don’t know the last time I had room to just… breath.” He said quietly, Sirius tried- and Harry couldn’t ask for a better guardian just…

Sometimes he wanted to escape.

The moment the suggestion leaves him his breath catches- what in the hell is he thinking? That was inappropriate, it was…” His body relaxed when she ade a joke about it, “Well, I have to prove myself.” he said dryly, offering her a warm smile. He didn’t know whether it was amusement or nerves but he couldn’t stop smiling.

“Is that your smart Ravenclaw advice?” Harry asked dryly, though it was more teasing then anything else- but he’s unable to finish the thought before her lips were on his and he lets out a small noise that he’s never heard escape his throat- his hand moving up to entangle in her dark hair, scooting closer- does he like this? Absolutely.

Probably more than he should.

This was his idea, and she keeps telling herself that as she continues to kiss him. They like to tease each other, and she's certain that that will continue later, but for right now all she wants to do is keep his mouth on hers, and she feels sparks lick down her spine when that sounds comes out of him and Merlin, she wants to hear it again. In no universe is this smart--and she'll scold herself over that later--but when his fingers tangle in her hair, she doesn't care.

“See?” she manages, but even having to stop kissing him for one word gasped against his lips feels like torture. “Practice is good...” She barely manages to get the words out though, because all she wants is to have his mouth on hers, and it's a dangerous admission to herself because this isn't what they're supposed to be doing.

They're supposed to be pretending, and this doesn't feel like pretending. Her hand slides along his chest as she groans into his mouth, the fingers of the other hand massaging his scalp as she tugs on his hair. So he's a good kisser. She can't admit that to him, and yet as she presses her body closer to him, she has a feeling he can tell just how much she likes this.

“Harry...” she hums, using his first name instead of his last.

That soft moan? That does things to him. He’s been dating/married to a bookworm for far too long, he doesn’t know what the hell influence she has over him, but he also… doesn’t mind it? He likes hwo he is- and maybe part of that is again getting this life he never thought he’d be able to have. There’s something incredibly… just beautiful about the whole thing.

“Yeah? What are we at now?” Hermione had found a way to push his buttons a lot since he had discovered (or rather accepted) his long running attraction to her. “Hermione, m love-” God there’s something really hot about all this. But he needs to breath, he needs to learn.

“You’re as uncomfortable with public displays as I am.” Harry pointed out, but she’s right- he doesn’t want to do this here. What she wants to do is for their eyes only, so gradually he with drew his hand and with a firm gesture pointed to her plate. “Eat. So we can go home and… have fun.”

A part of her is annoyed with herself that she made him stop, when she honestly feels like at this point she'd let his hand go all the way. It wasn't like Hermione Granger of all people couldn't put on an act that wouldn't alert people of where her husband's hand was. However, she also didn't like to censor herself with Harry, as he knew by now, and it was so much better when they were alone and unrestrained.

“Merlin, you're attractive...at this rate we're going to have a million children...” They won't, she's far too smart for that and there's too much to accomplish to have say, more than perhaps 3, but sometimes she just wants her husband in a very carnal fashion and right now is one of those times. “Trust me, Harry, tonight I plan to spoil you.”

She knows exactly what she wants and perhaps that's enough to tell him not to eat slowly as she smirks at him. As much as she enjoys spending a nice meal with him, she does in fact want his hands to be back on her. Was this normal? Was wanting your husband this much just something that every wife went through?

“Is it a good Valentine's Day so far?”
