After a night in a tavern drinking, A random barmaid starts to give Herman extra attention... For some reason, this bothers Robert. He keeps finding excuses to drag him away from her. Herman for his part is confused but also secretly pleased that Robert keeps physically dragging him around the bar.

you know what's a little funny and such a coincidence- i had just been turning the idea around in my head of waterboy starting to gain some fans and that does things to robert he can't exactly pinpoint apart from it's kinda irritating him somehow.

in the vet au, robert talks about aircraft accidents in a podcast he created. around the time where i imagine this au starts if it were a fic, he's currently on hiatus after dropping what seems like a pretty out of character episode that sounds more speculative and oddly personal and specific rather than his usual objective and factual recount of events. plus, the hiatus is the perfect time to follow through on those plans to adopt a dog. :]

considering it's been some time since robert has used the mech, i reckon people would sometimes find him at his cubicle (or somewhere more private i guess) during some slow days moving his hands around to flick imaginary switches or doing imaginary maneuvers just to keep his muscle memory intact.

#we call it bunkflying sometimes chair flying #it's literally playing pretend which sounds pretty ridiculous but it helps SO much #even after some 10 15 years of being mecha man? yeah #you'd be surprised how quick people can forget things #we don't enforce recurrent training or have clauses about recency in air law for no reason #cute little robert habit for u guys to imagine from a pilot's perspective ig #not that he knows about this being a thing exactly #probably started doing it bc he's afraid of forgetting #thought about it bc im about to start bunkflying my procedures for this new plane im studying for #seemed relevant for him

saw your comic on my fyp and it got me thinking how aside from Chase, Robert really felt a sense of loneliness in home. No active parental figures. No siblings/friends aside from someone who disappeared from his life for some time. it's...depressing, to think about it.

also, do you mind if people do voice dubs of your art? yes, asking this because of that dispatch comic. it's so good.

yeah exactly! not to mention there have definitely been times where chase was needed by the brigade too so... who takes care of him when that happens (outside of school and stuff)? robert would've quickly learned how to be independent with that kinda home situation :')

Soon after Herman admitting he wants to stay with Robert, they work with Courtney.. Herman being a complete mess, his spells cause them a huge amount of trouble.

"What in the Nine Hells is wrong with you ?" She corners him later and drags the truth of why he's so out of sorts, kicking and screaming.

"Did you actually say the word love to him?" She grilled

Herman ponders for a second and admits that he didn't.

She actually gives him a smack aside the head. "You are a Wizard you are supposed to be smarter than this! At least Robert has the excuse of being a dumb knight..."

Herman protests " He's not dumb..."

"Yes he is, and so are you! Dumb Knight and Idiot Wizard perfect for each other." She seethes.

Robert, when Herman says he wants to stay with him and travel... To help people.... Of course Robert doesn't get that he's saying he wants to stay with him... Herman is a good guy, he likes doing the right thing, and Robert is just conveniently traveling the same path. Its just that simple...

Meanwhile Herman thinking he just basically admitted that he loved Robert. But Robert doesn't seem at all interested not realizing that Robert is clueless... He's not being mean but he's telling me without saying it... Herman starts really messing up the next few spells he casts cause he's super distressed.

" I.. Well... It was.. You see... I would be... I want to travel still... I'd be stuck here doing work for... For the baron.. But I want to travel still.. Helping people... With you..." Herman admitted.

Robert generally likes to try the local ale

When Herman started traveling with him he noticed that Herman preferred mead. And while he does still like his ale, he's started developing a taste for mead as well.

Herman is a lightweight, and gets a bit chatty when drunk. Robert swings between sullen, but can also sometimes become a overly touchy goofy mess.

When they visit a tavern or stay at an inn that has its own tavern Herman tends to spend a little more on his food gets the fancier option if available. As mentioned previously he's a good cook, if the food is extra delicious he's been known to chat up the cook about how they prepare dishes.

Staying at inns, Herman is clearly a comfort boy at heart, if the road has been extra hard he insists on getting the nicer room if available. Robert was surprised the first time Herman sprung for a fancier room, he tried to talk the younger man out of it. Robert could sleep in a stable if necessary, it wasn't important.

Herman knows that Robert could handle sleeping on a cold stone floor of the inn if he had too, but he has talked the knight into getting a proper comfortable sleep, when they have the opportunity. " You are more alert when you have better sleep" he insists. And Robert hates to admit that he is right.

herman seems like the kinda guy who'd have this little collection of photos in his phone of animal ears having silly interactions with surfaces or tails sticking out of places when they try to hide or accidentally getting wet

he'd say he relates to it a bit bc it's like they aren't fully aware of how much space they take up... just like him.
